Your very soul would be annihilated from the raw force of their personality, assuming you're standing before their true form.

This is a pretty common trend in all human religions - you simply can't stand before a god in their entirety, because gods are so incomprehensible to humans that we would literally short-circuit/explode trying to process what we're seeing/experiencing.

Other than the GoT RPG, Make You Kingdom and the "Border Kings"(?) Module for 2e Warhammer Fantasy, what RPGs have competent and relatively concise rules for running kingdoms?

Reign is pretty good, running a kingdom (or cult, or business, or whatever organization you have that's big enough to use the Company rules) is an expected part of the gameplay progression. That said, look up the Economic Partnership homebrew rules, because the base Company actions have no basis for non-competitive economic actions. No business alliances, or anything like that.

Preference is for Burning Wheel's system, which has a fair bit of complexity. Highlights are the necessity for the winner to include compromises if they've taken a fair bit of "damage" in the argument, and the explicitly stated right to throw your hands up in the air and try to stab your opponent in the throat if you think it isn't going well. Downsides are the need to script your actions three steps in advance, which my players and I found to be arbitrary.

FATE has a meh system. It is in all ways identical to every other task resolution system in the game and entirely mediocre.

Might also look at expanding mechanics for haggling in more traditional games into something more complex like the systems in Runequest and Traveller.

The landing door crashed down with the sigh of metal that had been left in dis repair for too long, to my own surprise no fire met us, this caught most of first section off guard as they charged out furiously, bayonets raised. Their lasguns zapping a few shots out into the forest before us. They got no further than say about thirty paces before they slowed to a jog, and then a walk. I’ll admit I was surprised too.

I made my way out of the dropship as best I could, lowering my head as I stepped out into the open air. This was a lush world, its faint Violet sky and silvery grey sun gloomed over a yellow leafy canopy, though I found it peculiar that I could see no wild life. I quickly reminded myself we’d just landed in a star ship and that would have scared anything off. First section was now standing around bewildered, their sergeant berating those who had fired carelessly, while the rest of the platoon simply looked at the strange new land before them. Eventually a lieutenant made his way over to me.
“Um, orders sir?” He asked as he looked up at me. I looked down and shrugged loosely at the man.
“Might as well just settle down here for a bit I suppose” I chuckled.
The Lieutenant screwed up his face momentarily in confusion, he opened his mouth but I answered his question before a single syllable could escape him.
“Would you rather risk your men in the forest tonight? Or sit out here while we wait for orders? ‘Cause I know what I’m doing”
I started to walk away, leaving the lieutenant in complete confusion when my vox crackled in.
“Oi Brother Marko? How’s it going on your end?” Rasped the voice in my ear.
“Yeah s’allright, and yaself Brother Kevy?” I responded.
“Not too bad mate, anyways my guardsman and I just landed and we can’t see anything mate, you encounter any resistance?”
“Not really Brother…Not really”
>>
Another voice crackled into our conversation.
“Fuck me Brothers, this landings been a botch up ey?”
The familiar voice caused me to smile and I couldn’t help but let out a small gasp of disbelief.
“Aw Brother Wayno you legend”
“It’s Brother Sergeant now Marko, anyways news from Wazza upstairs says the enemy has pulled back ‘cause they saw the fleet coming. So looks like we get a night off”
Kevy replied with a hushed cheer.
“So what do we tell these Cadian lads?” I asked
“Well I’ve told mine we’re just gonna camp out maybe trade a few stories. Youse are welcome to tag along?” Kevy said in the voice he reserved usually for something shifty.
“Oi Nah nah nah mate, just hold youse position on the line and we’ll figure it out tomorrow yeah?”
Kevy and I both chorused an agreement, and with a final sign off the vox fell silent. I turned back to the Platoon now as the guardsmen formed a perfect square of men. Each stood to attention with his kit by his side and the Lieutenant was addressing them.

“We are to hold this ground till morning, sons of cadia do you understand!”
Obviously the Lieutenant had gotten the wrong idea so I quickly stepped in before he could rouse the “Sons of Cadia” Anymore.
>>
“Um No Lieutenant if I may-“ I said, a hand raised to gain the attention of the guardsman, and not to my surprise it worked, as the collective platoon now turned its gaze to me.
“Yes milord?” One sergeant bellowed, cutting off the Lieutenant mid speech. I groaned for a minute as I fumbled for the right words.
“Look uh…Sons of Cadia, we’ve uhh…look we’re gonna just stay put right here for a bit yeah?”
The platoon almost collectively tilted their heads in confusion, when one raised his hand. I couldn’t help but smile. It took a brave man to ask a question in the imperial army.
“What do you mean milord?”
I sighed and felt my head drop for a moment, I was getting real sick and tired of this “milord” rubbish.
“Firstly, m’names Markurias of the Red Dogs, it’s not milord. All right? I know you boys get told to call me Milord but I’m over it”
The guardsmen now let out small whispers of confusion.
Another guardsmen raised his hand now, I pointed at him and nodded.
“Who’re the red dogs?”
I should have seen that one coming.
“You want the long story or the short story mate?”
The guardsmen said nothing and I couldn’t help but face palm, my palm causing my helmet to emit a loud clang that caused a few guardsmen to jump unexpectedly.
“Look, we’re Marines and we’re from a little world you blokes’ve probably never heard of alright? And I mean-…”
I paused and pointed at my chapter pauldron on my left shoulder, a red dog on a yellow pauldron.
“What did you think this was for” I bellowed
This understandably bought an air of silence on the troops.
“You thought I was one of those imperial fists didn’t ya?”
I groaned and tried to massage my nose through my helmet with my free hand, letting my bolter hang at my side.
“So anyways boys, we’re just gonna spend the night here until we get told what to do tomorrow yeah?”

Dear Sirs and Ladies

In about a week and 1/2's time I'm going to be running a Pathfinder game for some folks, and thanks to a few of my obsessions, unhealthy spending habits, and some online tools, I'm going to be running the Planescape setting!

Now I won't bore you with the details of the story, but I am planning on offering my players the opportunity to visit Sylvania, the Gatetown to Arborea.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Planescape: Arborea is a plane of Chaotic Good, and is basically a hippie wonderland. Sylvania on the other hand is the plane's equivalent to New Orleans, except it's Mardi Gras every day of forever.

My plan is to give the players the chance to visit Sylvania and enjoy themselves, then as soon as they set foot within the gates to the city I'll "fade to black". When we get back to the story, the party will be stumbling out the the town hungover and not quite sure what had happened aside from that it was very fun and they enjoyed it.

What I would like your help with is the production of a "Blackout Drunk at a Party" Table which will randomly determine just what kind of hijinx the party pulled while they were "under the influence".

So far I've only got a few things like:
1. lost (X amount of gold)
2. Lost (X amount of gold), and now has someone/something after them, trying to "collect on the debt"
3. Gained (X amount of Gold)
4. Gained (X amount of gold), but now has someone/something chasing after them, claiming that they were "cheated".
5. Gained 1 magic item, and not quite sure how they got it.
6 Gained 1 magic item, not sure what it does, but they know it's definitely magic.
7. +1 Party member
8. Got married to some sentient creature (to be randomly determined, somehow).

That's just what I got for a start. Any more suggestions?

>>
>Reputation. Good or bad, you did something that prettymuch the whole town noticed.
>Crime. You committed a small crime, vandalism, petty theft, the like. Guards may be on the lookout for you
>Get a new tattoo/piercing/haircut
>Awaken nude or near nude, missing your gear.
>Awaken away from the rest of the party, in a strange part of town, where the locals speak a language you don't understand.
>Gain a contact in the city. Politician, crime boss, petty thief, bartender, whatever, you made a friend.
>Gain an enemy.
>Gain a pet
>Awaken with a small injury. A black eye, new scar, a stiff knee.

Roll twice, and give a good amount of detail. You as GM should have a good idea of what they did (once you roll), and feed them just too few clues to fully put it together.

Tiny Leaders is the best format: it keeps autistic Timmies at bay and it provokes more thoughtful deckbuilding than any other format

Hi /tg/
I'm gonna have my first real-life DM session soon, ran a few games over roll20 before. Got a couple of practical questions left.
First off, do you have a way of doing fog of war for undiscovered rooms? You use tiles for your maps, or maybe something else?
Do you show images to your players for new characters/environments/setting the mood? How?
Lastly, you have some good environment art? Looking for somewhat darker/moodier small villages, and underground caves/temples/ruins.
Thanks in advance!

Haven't played on actual tabletop for some years now, but the way I did it was to have different room types prepared that I would put on the board as the players would be able to take a peek inside or open the door.

Now images you should use, as they help a lot, in whatever computer screen you have near, pehaps some ready pictures if you're really old school about it. I would also recommend coupling them with music and sound effects. Do not forget to make sure to describe the scene in full, make sure that the scenery change is conveyed properly.

Dumping art now.

I got back to writing my novel. In the past I wrote several full length manuscripts, but as I have matured and grown from a happy college student into a depressed adult my writing has matured. Reading more is helping me get back to it I think, after years of being completely unable to write.

The new story feels good, at least at the moment, but not complex enough. I will likely have to go back once I have everyone written in a more substantial manner. However this feeling is likely fueled by the fact I am currently waste deep in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series, whose level of complexity is to the point of silliness.

I realized at some point it was a love story. With the main character and male lead realizing he loved his capture despite her numerous flaws (many of which were her cruelty and general disregard for lives born out of desperation). It was also a story of intrigue, which the male lead being forced essentially into a world that was not his own and to survive politically in it. Body horror has become a big theme. Somehow it has also become a vessel for me to work through the loss of my grandparents years ago, something I, in my youth, simply let pass from my thoughts into the safety of memories.

On a whole I don't know how it is going, but I am still writing. Hopefully I'll finish this manuscript, which would be a first in years, and hopefully it does not disgust me to the point during editing that I bury it.

>what is this?
It's dark heresy taken to a logical extreme- representing a large cell of acolytes and their nigh impossible quest to maintain control and sustain imperial loyalty in the face of human nature. On a game level, it's Dark Heresy with some gamified elements added meant for a larger group and several different DMs.
>Gamified Dark Heresy?
Basically, me and a couple friends sat down one day and asked ourselves how to improve on a game we had played awhile back in an Adventure Guild fashion. We had had some of our best RP there, but at the end of the day it had things that definitively brought it down. We decided the best way to do so was to make sure it had a plot that could advance but didn't require a set, rigid storyline in order to accomodate so many people work together to create a narrative, while also being able to tie all those people together cohesively.
So we picked Dark Heresy, and decided on a simple goal: Stop the cultists from doing their Doomsday Ritual(tm) and save the planet. Simple, yet difficult. So then we built a framework for the players to work together within and to build their resources and influence in order to attain this simple but difficult goal. So that's what I mean by gamified.

>Okay, but is this a multi-group campaign?
Kind of. It's less a multi-group and more one big group with the capacity to split up, because we have multiple available DMs. Seems like a small difference, but having played both it is rather a stark difference.
>I heard multi-group/large group games suck. /TG/ told me so!
I have played in a multi-group game before- and it was plagued with shenanigans. But i've always liked the idea, so we tried to brainstorm ways to fix the issues we had encountered previously. What we decided was that if we standardized experience rates, how loot is found/obtained, and mission difficulties, we could probably provide a more level experience for everyone. So we made a massive amount of random roll tables for everything from encounters, to unexpected turns of events, to modifiers identifying how likely it was the enemy knew what you were up to.
>Okay, i'm at the very least curious. What time are you playing at? How many slots are left?
So we dont actually have a player cap, or a specific timezone, and here is why- my reasoning is that provided enough people were willing to DM, as long as we could keep everyone on a relatively consistent page, that the odds of us getting an absurdly high amount of players would be low enough to not have to sweat a cap. On the issue of timezones, since there are multiple different DMs, you could have different games running at different times in the weekend- thus able to accomodate people according to their schedules- As long as it was sometime on the weekend.
>>
>What If I cannot consistently make it on the weekends?
No problem! Not everyone is always 100% free, but since this game is just a bunch of interconnected one-shots anyhow, it seemed counterproductive to make it a weekly attendance sort of deal. We came up with a couple of actions that people who were missing during a week could do back at the base- that way, you wouldn't run the risk of falling behind.
>If I could just basically idle, why would I ever do a mission?
Well, I mean, technically you could never do a mission, and just contribute entirely to the game in out of mission roleplay and base actions. It doesn't really hurt anyone else so whatever floats your rubber duck I suppose.
>So wait, what if I want to DM as well? Is that okay?
Absolutely! Infact, it's rather encouraged. Since the more people we have DMing the more people can play simultaneously. We have a bunch of aids and tables to help you if your unsure and to keep things balanced- as well as randomized because part of the schtick is that whoever is DMing is having their PC stay back in base and basically act as an Ops Commander (which is part of the reason for so many random roll tables). In doing so, their character will earn a small reward on top of the mission reward for having run the game.
>>
>Alright, I guess im down. When will we start?
I encourage you to hop in the discord right now and do chargen if you can (if you don't know how i'd be happy to assist whenever I'm around, usually after work) But we won't start until the end of November. Why so late? While it's convenient so as to give us a period to organize, it's also because I personally will be preoccupied with work for the next three weeks- not so much that I can't do some things like chargen or planning, but enough that I wouldn't want to try and kickstart and maintain the playing during then. Once we start, the plan is for the game to run atleast 30 weeks, due to each real life week being an in game week, and the game ending (for better or worse) by week 30.
