Do you allow consensual relationships based on mutual love and respect with members of the "orcoid" genus in your setting's lore?
Why? Why not? Are there any social problems for the couple or the offspring(if that is even possible)? Where and how do this relationships mostly form?

Yeah, but only in the rare case where someone's found a baby Orc, and taken it back to civilization to be raised and taught non-Orc values.

They're treated like total shit however, and are infrequently lynched.
It's kinda Orcs fault the world's such a shitty place though.
They took the death of their God really, REALLY badly.

Depends a lot on the setting I'm working with. Usually, though, I got no problems with allowing it to happen. It really does depend a lot on what world I'm using - for example, I would have an easier time using this in Eberron, Malebolge (homebrew world that's loosely Eberron meets Fallout) or my nameless "humanity are children of the god/dess of sex" magical realm-tinted homebrew world than I would in, say, Greyhawk.

>Why?
Because I see no reason to really cling to Tolkien's "orcs are always chaotic evil" approach, and I figure that with how common xenophilia is in the real world, it'd be even stronger in a world where A: there are other intelligent species, and B: you can actually have voluntary sex and even families with them.

>Kids possible?
Yeah. D&D taps into the vein of real-world mythology where you have things like women having children by bears and dogs, and men impregnating dragons and foxes. I see no reason why, in such a world, interspecies breeding would be really such a problem, especially since humanity is often set up as "the ultimate hybridizer" in D&D anyway.

>Social problems?
Depends a lot on the setting. Too hard to really narrow this down, but in general it's along the lines of "that's weird" - people staring, whispering, gossiping, etc.

>Where do they form?
Most commonly in areas where humanoids and orcoids/goblinoids are living in peace. Fringe territories and borders between such regions, generally.

>How?
This is partially setting determined, but it generally results from either political arrangements, wealth and deviance, or, most commonly of all, amongst adventurers or frontiers-folk. In the last category, such individuals often both find grounds they can respect orcoids on, such as their loyalty to the tribe, their strength in battle, their courage, their survival skills, etc, and their own personalities are "orcy enough" to ensure mutual attraction.

I've got goblins and trolls, but not orcs.

In cases where non-marital affairs are relatively kosher (single men, wealthy men, widows, etc.) this extends to nonhumans. Though you're likely to get some ribbing at least or become a pariah at worst, you won't face legal repercussions.

Marriage is a bit of a different animal. The nobility can get away with or be compelled to put up with such a marriage. The peasantry doesn't get to hobnob with foriegners much as is. And the sterility issue usually limits these to second marriages or common law marriages.

Goblins and trolls have their own reason to typically reject such relationships. For instance, there are goblin kings born with the power to magically compel lesser goblins. These guys don't like foreigners (who are immune to compulsion) anywhere near them.

Bad GMs/DMs I'm talking the ones who always have to win no matter what and will set up campaigns that have no chance for players to actually win.
An good example of this shit is a friend of mine that GMs pathfinder, he does homebrew claiming premade story modules are "too easy" and "not fun", it would be nice if the world he uses in every fucking campaign didn't revolve around a fucking adventurers guild and he always finds some way to force the players to join the guild which pretty much forces the party to do nothing but random ass jobs just to forfeit a large percentage of any treasure found or profit made during the quest to the guild in exchange for special permits the most recent campaign was in a territory where the law stated that it was illegal to kill anything that was not a game animal or if it was to butcher livestock, so even if say a dragon (which he saturates every campaign with )is laying waste to a city the party would be unable to slay it without a guild license and a permit to slay that particular species of dragon, no campaign he gms ever has a goal other than odd jobs, so the party can't win, it's just a way to keep the party playing until he's able to party wipe (no final boss ever, never plans an end due to unending amount of busy work, and ragequits if any player character hits lol 20)

its 2am just went through a terrifying monster thread and it reinvigorated my want to play a "The Thing" based game.

there might already be one out there, but i just got a semblance of an idea for something. heres what i got so far.

The players will each command a person or a team. they will be put into a station of some kind (this can take place in space, underwater, antarctica, mojave desert research station) thats isolated from the outside and no communication.

one player will be selected at random to receive a "The Thing" card, the rest might receive "Head Scientist" or "Engineer".

Maybe you take 5 cards per player, shuffle them and dish them out.

I'm brainstorming as i write this so it might not make complete sense.

the objective of the humans is to eliminate "The Thing", prevent the station from blowing itself up, and prevent it from leaving.

each turn will consist of the players writing down their action and handing it to the GM (this keeps the identity of the thing player a secret)

But thats all i got so far? who wants to join in

Just thought this could work for werewolves/vampires too?

>>49980937

I love the thing and I love "who is the monster" style games, but you'd have to be pretty original to have it not end up like one of the ones that is already released.

I think keeping the game length on the short side, having a well defined goal that people will want to cooperate towards somewhat, but introducing secondary hidden goals for each player so there's always uncertainty, is the best path.
>>
>>49984145
yea i think keeping it to less than a half hour keeps the action high and keeps it from dragging along.

what are some of these other ones? maybe i could use them to help.

So, I missed bumping the last thread (>>49969575) by like 10 minutes. Giving it another go, see if I can get some interest going.

For those too lazy to click the link, this thread is about an obscure indie RPG that I really like to shill. It's got a pretty good tactical combat system and is very simple.

>>49975058
It definitely has the most damaging basic attacks, as long as you can get advantage. A striker | rogue assassin will oneshot normal enemies on a crit pretty reliably, at least at the early levels.

However, classes who have damaging effects can keep up relatively easily and deal damage more consistently (even with advantage, you only have a 1/3 chance for a crit, so it's an average damage increase of 4/3, if you have advantage on everything. Compare with Duelist, who gets a precision boost and can also spend focus for extra damage).

Haven't made calculations with the poisoner, admittedly.

Okay /tg/ I need you to evaluate my plan on degeating terrasque in a few turns. Now this method requires 1000gp, a bowl that can only fly up, and to be a wizard. Now this is how it goes

>The party is to be split in two, Party wizard and the rest of the party
>Party Wizard, assuming he is level 20, casts teleporting circle which is set to port whoever or whatever is standing on it to the bowl while the wizards create the circle the bowl is to be launched upwards into the sky and hopefully reach 100 miles.
>Meanwhile the rest party is to delay terrasque from getting to the wizard to early as the bowl is still ascending which will take a while say two days but one if one is to be optimistic
>Assuming all has gone to plan the party is to lead terrasque to the teleporting circle where hopefully the wizard passes all the chexks and terrasque is teleported to the bowl where he is to fall to his doom

Tl;dr Teleport terrasque to a marker up on the sky and watch it fall to it's demise

There are LOTS of problems with this, assuming you're playing some kind of D&D.

Fall damage is capped at 20d6, not even close to enough to kill, or even bloody the Tarrasque.

The Tarrasque has an innate Spell Resistance of 36, (which applies to effect spells like Teleport), meaning the wizard has to roll 16 or higher on a d20 (d20+caster level), or cast the whole thing again next round.

In 5E, the Tarrasque is immune to slashing, piercing, & bludgeoning damage from nonmagical weapons, so even if you could work out where exactly it was going to fall, you'd need to somehow enchant a 25ft by 25ft area of ground, for it to even take 20d6 from the fall.

Otherwise, it just leaps out of the crater, dusts itself off, then goes to ravage the nearby locales as normal.
>>
>>49980643

Wouldn't it be better to wait until the bowl hit space and put the Tarrasque into orbit as a new satellite? It may be strong, but it can't fucking overpower gravitational pull from a stellar body.
>>
>>49980924
This has the Planet Hulk problem. You do that and somehow the tarry reappears a year later, with a bunch of alien followers and very pissed off.

How do I play a good bard sorry I'm a noob
16 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>49979391
It's not a good class for a new guy, but you can do it. Bard usually has good people skills and handles party negotiations. Armor and fighting skills are not always very good, stay near the rest of the party when you fight. Bard usually has some ability to improve the dice rolls of his teammates in a fight, ask the DM what that ability is, how it works, and when to use it. Good luck.

Use magic as a utility as opposed to DPS.
A sorcerer may cast fireball to deal tons of damage, as opposed to you who may cast eye-bite to decrease enemy damage.

You're musically based so inspire others with music or a song.
You are all about charisma so focus on that.

Because I'm a giant bundle of sticks and it's that time of year let's talk about zombies.

What flavor of zombies do you perfer? Shamblers? 28 days later zombies? Magically animated types?

What games/shows have you seen that makes you want to incorporate aspects of them into your depictions of zombies/undead?

I like zombie land zombies, who seem to run the gaumet of sprinter to shambler. I am of the firm belife that modern military tools would curbstomp most hoards. The problem would be civil unrest and riots, a break down of the social security in first world countries, while third would countries struggle to maintain quarantine procedures.

Easy. Since you know it's a lich, you have to find his phylactery (okay, this is actually the hard part, you may want to hire investigators or diviners), smash it to pieces then take your party and smite the lich into oblivion.

How do I make a map of a world that's approximately the size of our own, but with hexes that are small enough to measure a day's travel by foot, without the pixels being so small the entire map is just blackened by hexes?

chopping it up into tiny pieces, never showing the whole thing at once, removing the oceans

>>49978198
That's about 1000 hexes by 1000 hexes for the map, and if you want to "accurately" do it the hexes get smaller in the mountains and bigger on flatlands.

It's a dumb idea but if you truly wish to be a retard do it on multiple maps that you could lay out on a big flat space.

Anyways
Playing dnd for first time
DM is guy from school just like the rest of the party
DM has been going through a "progressive" phase
"Make your characters guys"
I make a paladin devoted to protecting his land and his faith
DM is most displeased when I start murdering heathens because they don't recognise my god.
Then starts making gay npcs interested in me.
I treat the reasonably but usually cut them down whenever they try to suggest more then friendship
DM eventually just kills me and says I was worshipping a demon all along
