Why has WOTC made the Forgotten Realms their default setting and mostly neglected every other setting?

>>
cause they are lazy?
>>
>>50387965
They are building a brand identity.

By focusing on one setting, they can focus the user experience, and hence what the layman thinks when he hears "D&D".

This is very useful for cross-marketing purposes. If they make a new D&D videogame or movie, everyone will know it's set on FR, and there won't be any confusion about the different worlds.

It also gently shepherds the community into one block, instead of having a bunch of sub-communities for each world and then another sub-sub community for people brewing and houseruling things for each world, you have users who can share their adventures between each other while being on the same page, so to say.
>>
Because the games (Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights) and the literature (Drizzt), as well as the amount of mechanical support it's had across all editions since 1e, have made it by far their most popular setting, even after they took a huge dump on it in 4e.

Just arrived in pick related and MTG is like tenfold what it is in UK/France/Germany.

since I'll be fucking alone in this country, and could bring my 40k army, I figured I should start something.

I looked briefly at colors and I really like white because crusade, Jerusalem, angels and shit.

Let say I have $700 to spare, what TF do I need to buy ?

Welcome to New Zealand! If it's anything like Australia, look forward to massive price gauges.

As for the game, depends on the format you want to play. Find your local store and ask them about drafts, drafting is great for new players as you don't need cards, and very popular. Then there are formats, Standard is the cheapest and simplest to get into, can cost between $50-200 (AUD) for a deck, but your investment will diminish almost entirely after two years when all your cards rotate out. Modern is more expensive ($400-1000), but you can build budget decks, and your cards will hold their value, or you could jump straight into the deep end of legacy, which has decks ranging from hundreds to thousands, though you might not have many players nearby who will play it.

After months of searching, I've finally found a good online group to play with. I want to make sure that my character is up to snuff first, though. So ITT: We share character sheets and judge the sheets of others.

Faith is blank because the setting is homebrew, btw, and they haven't told me the pantheon yet.

Hey /tg/

I was wondering if there is any one here who could tell me if the Space Marine contents of Deathwatch: Overkill would be any good for A proper game of Killteam. I used to play 40k back during 3rd edition, but gave it up because stupid. Unfortunately, I lack the time and money for a full sized proper army.

So, would they be any good? Or perhaps with minimal additional investment?
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
They are far too many points for kill team, and they contain unit types (HQs and terminators) not normally allowed in kill team

Without wargear deathwatch marines are like 18 points each, and when you add on wargear the costs go up a lot.

The limit for kill team is 200 points
>>
If you are looking for minimal investment into kill team, consider either the kill team box set, or one box of either space marines or deathwatch. If you squeeze points, you might be able to include a rhino, but it will mean less wargear.
>>
>>50385993
No for official rules.

Kind of for Heralds of Ruin Kill Teams. In HoR you buy models on an individual basis and upgrade then accordingly. You could squeeze most of them in except you would have to eliminate a couple dudes.

Death Masque makes for a MUCH better HoR Kill Team starter box.

Does anyone play Duelyst? It's been out for a while, basically hearthstone tactics. Playing around with it, it seems that it would be a really fun format for Magic.

/tg/ vidya general, I suppose.

For those that have never played, here's the scoop, if you wanted to try running a game of magic under these rules:

At the begining of the game you can replace two cards in your hand, and every turn you can replace one.

Draw step takes place at the end step.

Every creature can move two spaces vertically or horizontally, or one space diagonally, on a 5x9 grid, with each general starting on either side.

mana normally generates at a rate of one per turn, with player one starting at 2, and player 2 starting at 3, and going up to 9, although nothing stops you from using land cards with mtg, either as is in your deck, or removing the land and using it as a second deck that you draw from each turn.

Each player plays as a bloodborne general of a faction, with his deck limited to the cards from that faction, and neutral cards. For MTG, I'd say this limits you to selecting a legend, and you can use its abilities, and your cards are limited to artifacts and cards of that color, multicolors included.

Don't get into 40k now in any sort of Game play sense. Buy a couple of models that you think look cool, but the game is absolutely fucked right now in terms of balance and depth, and orks are the worst faction.

aliens in fantasy settings. where is this done? how poorly/well? what is your opinion on this trope? where have you done it? pics?

>me
>high fantasy setting, big world
>a lot of races, really... a lot
>2 alien races, gods and divine beings not included

>giant elephant ogre people
initially named them Oltarog, ditched the name, currently not working on this setting

some random facts lol

1. ported from one world to this by an eldritch being. their technology isnt anything new, they are not superior.
2. most of them are born in large mounds of mysterious flesh...
3. they have females. their society is matriarchal. the strongest breed with the females, producing strongest warriors of their race, born with 4 arms.
4. they eat their dead, leaving only tusks in memory. it is a crime to eat the females though.
5. hell it's a crime for a mere
5. they have set up an empire on their continent. the elite live in the city there. everyone else lives divided by clans across countless islands on a large archipelago to the west. further to the west is the "main" continent of the conworld.
6. they have a large number of slaves of different races (including humans, dwarves). they have bred them for generations to use as cattle and workers.
7. the people that are located closest to them (not close at all) are the not! Asian fishermen communities of my setting. they get frequently raided by these "elephant sea demons"

my problems with this race:
1. i want to have elephants (animals) in my setting that were on the world since the beginning. so how do i justify alien elephant people with trunks and tusks?
2. how the fuck can they travel across sea to raid the fishermen? they are giant, what kind of huge vessels could they use...

>a high tech race of something that i haven't built beyond Well there's a legendary isle in the middle of a sea, there's a metallic fortress with cannons that obliterate anything that gets too close, so all the races of this world stay away

When the Space Marine chapters send out companies into battle, do they just literally send out a couple hundred guys onto a plent to wreak havoc?

Or are they supported by thousands of other troops of their own? I know they can ally with the IG for example, but in those fleets of the chapters, do they have other regular soldiers under their direct command?

>do they have other regular soldiers under their direct command?
Hell no. That's one of the biggest no-nos of the Codex Astartes. Pre-Heresy, yes, you had Imperial Army troops directly commanded by Legion troops as Auxilia, but that was forbidden as one of the many ways Guilliman planned to handicap Imperial fighting forces to ensure they couldn't go off and rebel as a united fighting force.
We see exactly why that was wise with the Astral Claws/Tyrant Legion becoming the Red Corsairs.
>>
>>50380824

Sure, that makes sense.

Though one starts to wonder why certain chapters shouldn't be exempt from this rule, like the Grey Knights. If their geneseed really is pure and they cannot fall to Chaos, it seems like a mighty good idea to expand that chapter significantly.
