How can /tg/ make the magic in Harry Potter better? From the inconsistencies in verbal vs. non-verbal spellcasting, dumb names, seemingly endless amounts of highly-specific spells, etc.
Anyone tried to run HP campaigns? What system did you use? How did you do magic?

I have a decent wooden one because fuck if I'm going to get a shitty metal one or pay out for an actual sword. It's strong enough to spar with other wooden swords so I can practice. And in case someone breaks in it's basically just a very well-balanced baseball bat with a thinner edge

What health problem could one reasonably expect for humans forced to wear body armor/environment suits almost constantly? Like, in an environment where only a few extremely rare isolated bases have areas safe for human habitation? Lack of vitamin D due to sunlight deprivation which can also lead to sleep disorders and similar springs to mind, and naturally pretty trivial stuff like skin conditions.

Skin conditions would probably be a big one if there wasn't something built into the suit to stop it. You'd get terrible acne I'd imagine. Depending on the weight distribution you might end up with muscle problems or shit like that. Vision might get weird if you're always looking through tinted visors.

In Halo, the power armor was sensitive to small muscle movements (you would twitch your palm to grip something, shrug your shoulder to shoulder a weapon, etc). Maybe the wearer's large muscle groups atrophy after extended use?

Let's talk mecha campaigns /tg/. And no, I'm not talking about which system is the best for campaigns.
I think we should discuss something more fundamental. How the fuck do you run a mecha campaign?
>Who are the players? Soldiers? Mercenaries? Rich eccentrics? Idols?
>Sandbox or get on the rails bitch?
>How do you balance out the mecha parts to the non-mecha parts? How do you balance out the fact that everyone is supposed to be a pilot?
>How hard to you try to justify big lumbering robots in-game?
>if the players are soldiers, how do you resolve the chain of command?
>Do you include resource management? What kind?
Personally I can't for the life of me figure out how to make a mecha campaign that is actually engaging to play in.

For military mecha campaign, try giving players two PCs. One's the mecha pilot, which will be the main pc, and the other will be one of the top brass. When they play as the top brass, they get to make the big decisions regarding the war and that's where the sandbox play comes from. Keep thisnpartbof the game short though, about 15 minutes max.
Meanwhile, the pilots are the ones who get to do the fun missions.

Hey /tg/
I'm a new D&D player who's only played through one campaign with some friends of mine and I made the mistake of playing an extremely stereotypical character in my last campaign which left me feeling very trapped (It was an elvish druid with an affinity for animals. [femanon]) So we're getting ready to set up our new campaign and I'm trying not to pigeonhole myself this time. I'm hoping for some honest feedback on what I've got so far if you guys could help me out.
Fem. Dragonborn Fighter named Xirina. Neutral Good.
Descendant of Copper dragons with an acid damage breath weapon.
Rough backstory: Xirina grew up in a clan with a renowned fighter for a father who was training her older brother in swordsmanship. As he learned, she would also practice what she saw despite not being in training to become a fighter herself. Over time, she became proud enough of her skills to reveal what she had learned to her father and he was so impressed with her talent that he began favoring his training towards her and leaving his son behind. Feeling hurt and abandoned, her brother became determined to regain his father's approval by training under another swordsman in the clan. Eventually, Xirina was able to claim the title of the best swordsman within her clan.
