This week's Monday Meeting Notes:
http://theonyxpath.com/well-met-at-dragonmeet-monday-meeting-notes/
>Question
Ever done a high fantasy game?
>>50656052
No, because there are other games for high fantasy.
>>50656052
Chronicle of Fagness
>>50656052
CofD is terrible for high fantasy.
It can, however, do low fantasy well.
I'm thinking about doing a low fantasy gothic one shot.
ITT: Dead games that you know weren't that great, but oh god do you miss them anyway.
I know inquisitor was an unbalanced piece of shit which needed a GM to work, but oh god it was cool. Plus the 54mm models were nice, I just wish I hadn't had to sell mine when I shifted continents.
considering how fucking expensive it was, even for GW, I am amazed it lasted as long as it did.
Although considering the way they are going now a days I would not be surprised if they tried to bring it back through Forge World
>>50656002
The problem with inquisitor is it managed to be neither a RPG or a tabletop wargame.
They should have come up with more firm rules and a necromunda style of play and it would have been great, the actual mechanics of it were fine.
>>50657885
One of the biggest drawbacks was that it was relatively terrain heavy game with awkward scale.
Ofc you could just use convert the distances to cm imstead of inches and use 28mm instead.
I'm trying to get my own fantasy campaign off the ground. One of my prospective players wants to play a succubus. Already, red flags are going up because I'm trying to keep my campaign at a PG-13 rating (or for those of you who are not American: Whatever rating The Dark Knight Rises got in your country). I explained this to the player of the prospective succubus and she said she could keep it at a PG-13 rating in the same way Catwoman is.
On one hand, I'm thinking about giving her a chance, and anything that gets blatantly sexual can simply be handled with a "fade to black" and maybe a die roll or two. On the other hand, I hate wasting time on characters I'm probably going to kick out of the campaign after two or three games. This player seems very nice, is getting along with the other players as we discuss the campaign and talk about characters they want to roll up, and highly cooperative in building characters that fulfill a role in the group. But I can't shake the feeling of "magical realm" that comes along with playing a succubus.
What should I do?
What is there to her character apart from being a succubus? Context is everything.
>>50651675
Yeah, why does the player want to play a Succubus?
Also, have you considered not playing D&D or a D&D clone?
>>50651675
if she tries anything funny just give her magical aids
How do vampires in your setting work?
Same way everybody else does. They send in an application (without a photo). They go through the job interview. They start working on the next Monday.
They are diligent too. They are in the office first (before the sun rises even) and they leave last (after sundown).
Frankly, they are a boon to any company.
>>50648350
They drink human blood and can be active during the day, but they prefer nighttime since it makes them a bit lethargic and they can't heal without their day sleep. They can consume blood to fake normal bodily functions, are repealed by religious symbols if the holder believes in its power, detest garlic to the point of vomiting when they drink from someone who ate some and are confused when confronted with large numbers. They can be killed by the classical stake in the heart or decapitation, and burn easily. There's also a subs-species of Orlocks who can drink animal blood and are stronger than the average vampire, but they burn when exposed to sunlight.
Vampires are either demonized sorcerers who have invited spirits into their body to possess them through means of blood rituals, or are the semi-corporeal manifestation of the same spirits void of a willing vessel. Sometimes, those spirits possess the corpses of the sinful and recently deceased instead of a living patron. Their abilities are diverse and typical, but stem from a place of demonic authority rather than some kind of fae creature. The only time when blood may be needed for sustenance is when the demonic spirit is possessing a corpse, and daylight is not detrimental to their existence, but rather their disguise.
So basically vampires irl

nice OP
migrating
i got an odd request.
Requesting either one of the following the are basically the same but it is up to you:
1-A floating stone head of a woman festering on a dying man, Prometheus style. Many corpses of the same man are lying around. He is obviously withering in pain. As for the head itself, it has nothing special but small strands of flesh acting as her 'hair'. the rest is up to you.
2- A more detailed view about the floating stone head, the base of her neck spewed random strands of flesh forming a pesudo-body. Skin is always ripping itself and regenerating from the spikes of irregular bone and random flesh tendrils. alternatively you can draw her without skin to save the hassle.
i will be glad with any of these, thank you in advance
Anchoring for my drawfriend.
If you want more detail on the character for whatever reason here's the short backstory piece I wrote about him. Again love the work it's looking amazing.

Why is that hairstyle so hecking popular with artists?
Considering that AoS is a success and 40K is terrible mess that is losing players to Warmachine and shit likle that, how long till we get Age of Emperor?
I doubt that will happen. 40k isn't doing that bad to my knowledge.
Aside from that though I do think 40k could deal with some changes of course. The fluff being more in line with AoS, and giving more equal shine to all the factions instead of just Space Marines, would be an improvement.
But I doubt anything like that will happen.
>>50642601
Didn't the entire AoS line get outsold by a HH boxset?
>>50642601
Could you provide numbers on 40k doing bad? I mean just within 20 minutes of my house there are 4 stores for it that have regular games and they just opened up a new one that's entirely dedicated to warhammer and it's booming. Maybe it's just where I live but it seems to be doing fine. Grognards complaining on tg asside.

Anyone have some spicy SW reaction images?
Ah out of production droids, I love the CZ communications droid (And most Serv-O-Droid products) Did you know the CZ in ANH was built out of rejected parts for a Darth Vader costume?
>>50640654
I had an idea for a character/NPC that bought up old Serv-O-Droid and Leisuremech patents and is starting to make a comeback with a few factories and workshops.
Ok, so a level 20 Fighter is kinda Hercules, a level 20 Wizard is basically a Demi-god, a level 20 Barbarian is a force of nature and a level 20 Paladin is God's will made manifest. But what's a level 20 Bard? Or Investigator?

Not sure between starting Dark Heresy 1e and 2e? Pick 2e.
>Why did FFG lose the 40k RPG License?
Because they were bought by Asmodee and that caused some sort of licensing conflict.
>Will GW make their own 40k RPGs now?
Probably not. But if they do it will likely be worse than you could possibly imagine.

Any general rules of thumb players should know before getting into a game? Things that increase survival rates, common sense, etc. Looking to update the "Rules for Not Dying like an Idiot" file.
By the way, with the license BS happening, these really neat Digital Character Sheets will be getting removed from the Play Store in March. Get it while you can, it can print to .pdf.

Dropzone and dropfleet are cursed. Both have pretty good balance and decent rules but are unilaterally hated and revealed because reasons. I think people actually want bloated ruk as and bad balance.
Why are the PHR ships so fucking cool? Broadsides are the most satisfying thing and having a ship that can drop troops and bombard is great.

RIP skub
Opinion time: do you guys think nightmare is undercosted?
I was playing a game yesterday using Pirate Queen Skarre against Lord Tyrant Zaadesh, he has Zaadesh hiding behind a mountain that I had just previously run nighmare up to the turn goes on he feats, kills some of my guys, casts Battle-Charged then ends his turn with 4 fury on Zaadesh, the its my turn. I hand out my focus having three left on Skarre and then get one back from ritual sacrifice to cast dark guidance and then feat, I then move nightmare through the mountain to get to Zaadesh which triggers countercharge from 3 of his beasts and a defensive strike on nightmare from Zaadesh. nightmare survives and proceeds to go ham on Zaadesh which is when the "gotcha moment" happened, the guy I was playing against was the local PG and pretty up on the rules but he didn't know that nightmare got smash and grab and I then proceed to hit him twice then head-butt and then go to town to finish him off.
he was pretty salty about that. we then had a discussion about his cost comparing him to other 18 pt jacks and beasts and he maintains that for what he got/lost nightmare is undercosted for what he has.
>>50632994
>18 points
>slayer chassis
>defensive tech only with denny
Its perfectly reasonable IMHO.
He must have got some shit damage rolls not to take out a single non-movement system with 3 charges and a defensive strike, so its understandable that he was salty
>really like X rare, obscure game

How has your RPG heart been crushed recently?
I'm an forever GM with no friends that can commit to a schedule and all my FLGS groups are just min-maxing Pathfinder Society players who have no interest in the RP part. It's basically/tg/ hell.

Update.
I am still in this game at this very moment.
The session culminated with an important negotiation against a critical NPC. After ~45 minutes in real time of my character negotiating with this NPC (because the others were hardly being helpful in this), expending resources to do so, and coming to a peaceful resolution, one of the other PCs declared that they attacked the NPC.
I tried to stop this, but ultimately could not. The GM went along with it.
Everything went to hell from there, sparking a bloody battle.
My character has opted to stay out of this, and I will probably be leaving the game afterwards.
>>50622396
Why did the GM allow that many players?
So for Dawn of War 3 the only we seem to be getting all the "old" characters back Gabe,Jonah,Gorgutz, and Macha
Where the fuck are my Blood Raven boys though?
Hairgel and Thaddeus apparently tricked into going on some crusade
Cyrus still about muh scouts or went back to Death Watch for reasons
Tarkus Captain of the 4th company?
Thule either dead or still wont tell us what happened on Kronus
Diomedies said he cant serve the chapter how he used to or something honestly I could see him being Chaplain now
Avitus was the cannon traitor
Martellus was always kinda meh so eh whatever

Just watched some DoW III videos, and info about orks will come out next week.
About other Blood Ravens, no idea.

What's the appeal of Blood Ravens anyway
Looking to get into Pendragon. What edition is the best and where should I start?
Honestly? Pick up the latest edition (5.1 I think) and give that a read. See if you can find a pdf of the Great Pendragon Campaign. That's the meat and potatoes of the system.
>>50616326
> Great Pendragon Campaign
What's that?
Generally speaking, the main contenders are the 4th and the 5th edition. Insofar as you should be concerned, the 4th edition is far more flexible: the core book alone covers playing characters from a variety of social classes and cultures, playing magicians, and running a relatively wide variety of games. The 5th edition, meanwhile, focuses almost solely on playing Cymric knights doing Cymric knight things.
In most games, picking the 4th would've been a no brainer but you have to remember that Pendragon isn't just some generic fantasy RPG - it's very much INTENDED to be used to run stories about Cymric knights. Most of the game's hardcore fans actually dislike the 4th edition because as much as they're concerned it wasn't "broader" or "more flexible", it was UNFOCUSED. They never wanted to play Saracens, or magicians, or merchants. They wanted to play Cymric knights. And 5th edition does only that one thing, and does it very good without all the extra rules bloat involving any other type of game.
