This week marks 75 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, also known as the Battle of Pearl Harbor, the Hawaii Operation or Operation AI by the Japanese Imperial General Headquarters, and Operation Z during planning. It was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, and led to the United States' entry into World War II.

Japan intended the attack as a preventive action to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions the Empire of Japan planned in Southeast Asia against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. Over the next seven hours there were coordinated Japanese attacks on the U.S.-held Philippines, Guam and Wake Island and on the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

The attack commenced at 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian Time. The base was attacked by 353 Imperial Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four sunk. All but the USS Arizona (BB-39) were later raised, and six were returned to service and went on to fight in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed; 2,403 Americans were killed and 1,178 others were wounded. Important base installations such as the power station, shipyard, maintenance, and fuel and torpedo storage facilities, as well as the submarine piers and headquarters building (also home of the intelligence section) were not attacked. Japanese losses were light: 29 aircraft and five midget submarines lost, and 64 servicemen killed. One Japanese sailor, Kazuo Sakamaki, was captured.

Man it's as dead as a Necromancer's girlfriend in here.

Is having a few differing race as class options better or worse than just having separate race and class?
>>

>a few differing race as class options
Sounds like a slippery slope to unnecessary class bloating.

Maybe, do it the DW way: Every class has an ability that differs from race to race. Like human clerics who can use some wizard spells as a divine magic, or elven rangers who always succeed at whatever they do while travelling through wilderness.

NPCs are transhuman average joes, the kinds of regular people typically working regular jobs with conventional amounts of experience. Player Characters are highly talented specialists with great talents or education or experience - and intended to be a cut above the people you normally bump into on the street. This is why they get Moxie, and the GM is instructed to ignore an NPC's moxie unless they feel they're actually an important character, not just some clerk manning a desk.

Compare to an Immortal Oligarch who has like, two of their many skills under 60. And then compare with the tiny skill pools on an Indentured Infugee - portraying somebody in a relatively flesh instance.
>>
>>50571602
There are definitely some pretty scary NPCs
>>
>>50571631

Yeah, my language got a little away from me there.

A better way to say it is that the NPC stats reflect a very average sample of what that sort of person is, PCs tend to be exceptional examples - but an average Oligarch is an entirely different thing to be reckoned with than an average Indenture.

A soldier with like 50% (plus an automatic +10 smartlink, probably a +10 on Aim and +10-+30 for rate of fire) is pretty reasonable - a certified professional with some extra experience on them, who would make a difficult shot 50/50 of the time. A Firewall Agent who is good at shooting people wants a much better numbers, like making 4/5 difficult shots.

wtf is an Axiom and why does it help me shoot people
.50 BMG: The Katana of bullets

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games.

Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

So, I was watching the new spin off movie in the Potterverse. Fantastic Beasts and all that.
During the movie I thought "Man, I think I'd like to play in this setting" and "Damn, I don't know any game for Potter stuff"
And with that I thougt: "Maybe SoS can do that".
Think about it: Spells are pretty much maneuvers that wizards can do. You have a magic pool. You can't use it without a wand, and if you don't have your own wand you likely get a penalty on the pool. Stuff like that.
Thoughts and/or opinions?

Also, the movie was better than expected. Well, I expected it to be pretty shitty. But it was actually somewhat good imo.
>>
>>50516069
While I sympathize with your desire to shove SoS into everything, and partake in that same desire by planning shit like Valkyria Chronicles in Ballad, I think something like Ars Magicka would work better.

UNIFICATION

> In the depths of the Old Night, the one known as Malcador discovered a relic of the Dark Age of Technology; a Man of Gold, created by those who came before with intellectual, martial and psychic prowess like none other. Others of his kind had devestated humanity in wars long gone, yet this one would restore it to its former glory. The Man of Gold, returning to Terra to find it a war-torn shell of a homeworld, immediately vowed to dedicate his existence to restoring the race he was created to serve. Thus, he became the Warlord, unifying his world through alliance, war, and every flavour of diplomacy between them. Nations united under his banner or were conquered by it, and soon a few figures became famous for their achievements, whether done in the Warlord's name or their own. These would become his Primarchs.

> The years passed, and the Warlord looked to the stars. After the alliance with Mars gave the Imperium the logistical and materiel strength to begin reclaiming their former worlds, the Great Crusade began in earnest. Many worlds saw the bright future of the Imperium and greeted the Warlord with open arms, and for those that did not? The Warlord had his Primarchs; who each had a legion of elite Space Marines under their command, along with their own unique brand of warfare. A world with armies elite enough to fend off the ferocity of Leman Russ's Vlka Fenryka would be dismantled by the logistical superiority of Roboute Guilliman; one fortified enough to stall the methodical Ultramarines would be infected by plague and rotted from the inside out by Mortarion's Night Lords, and one who dared use such weapons on the forces of the Imperium would have their horrific gases and plagues shrugged off by Ferrus Manus's inhuman Skitarii.
>>
>>50426564

UNIFICATION (Cont)

> Closer to home, however, there was a problem. The Warlord had originally been designed to serve humanity, not lead it, and it was a curious irony that the greatest leader in human history did not see himself fit for the role. Nevertheless, he was concerned at how an artificial construct such as himself (although precious few other than Malcador knew of this fact) was shown such reverence across the reclaimed worlds; some worlds approaching worship. Thus, he declared that the Golden Throne of Terra, an ancient artifact discovered that may have predated even him, was the centerpiece of the Imperium, and that he would be its Steward until a suitable Emperor were to emerge.

When it comes down to it, they are just variations of the Fighter and the wizard and frankly the primary class features of each could be broken down and used in a better way to build a character that fits more in line with people's options rather then hard locking them in a way that heavily implies some sore lore tie directly to the setting or makes certain assumptions about the class (i.e. Barbarians being illiterate cave men and rangers being nature paladins).

So my thinking is this: You have the bare chassie of Mage and Warrior. I purposefully excluded the "skilled" class because frankly, either one of them could be "skillful" and doesn't deserve an archetype of it's own.

What I havn't figured out is how you would set about the base class options but for stuff like Class features like Rage for example, they could have branching paths that are affected by other options you take (i.e. being a mage and taking Rage could lead to stuff like chaos magic or something like that).

Basically what I'm getting at is shit like Rage, Favored enemy, etc, don't deserve an entire class built around it and there's no reason a mage character couldn't take those any more then a warrior character couldn't take some kind of magic options (because who doesn't want a swordsman who can turn into a bear?)

Just make the game classless you mongoloid.

So you argue that having so many classes is arbitrary and there's no need to make that division, and then you shoot yourself in the foot here by further breaking down the division between Warrior and Mage to being arbitrary.

Don't pussy out, just play a classless system.

You could try to create a branching system where people start as a recruit or an adept. Then they choose talents and and advance to other classes based on their choices. Adept splinters to priest and mage. Priest splinters to druid and cleric. Druid splinters to Fanged Fury and Ancient One. And so on and so forth.

My next campagin will involve the PCs going on a cross-country road trip across the continental United States. What would be the best route, in terms of offering the most unique oppertunities for adventures?

Off Seattle you've got that archipelago with Orcas and Pacific Indians and shit, then down through the Redwoods, then San Fran I guess, then Yosemite, then ????? because that part of California is garbage, Sequoia would be cool but kinda the same thing as the Redwoods, then through Death Valley into Las Vegas, then get lost in the rocks of Utah (Bryce, Zion, Capital Reef, Moab, all that good shit), then down south through Monument Valley, then you have to justify swinging back west for the Grand Canyon for some reason

then through Arizona and New Mexico, in Texas, with a brief weird stop in Austin, then through Lousiana and NOLA, fucking around in backwoods stuff around there, fart though the top of Florida (we ain't got time to get all the way down there) then though the wooded Appalachians, into DC then all that east coast stuff - Philly, NY, Boston, then into Vermont and from there idk I guess you can go through Niagara, or maybe it'd be cooler to reach the Montreal

2Yes I am basically just re-describing my bomb ass road trip in 2014
