Isn't it supposed to be a thing that all the splatbooks are written somewhat from the perspective of the group they're about, and they all just THINK they secretly rule the world?
>>50679766
Eventually, that's where they went. Really, it's because they were written as standalone games with crossover capability.
Fun fact: Samuel Haight was written as a parody of the powergamed, promiscuously crossed over PC that the devs would be assaulted with by fanboys at conventions. They felt that that kind of character and chronicles like that were destroying oWoD. So they wrote one as a joke.
Of course, things spiralled out of control and eventually that character DID destroy the setting.

Don't mind me, just posting one of the best 40k books there is.
Read it boys, it's fucking great.
Honestly, it's everything a book about an unknown chapter should be. Good characters, simple yet compelling story, IG kick ass in it, there's only the epilogue that's a wee bit disappointing, but really a damn good book.
And it's not being sold by GW because of legal shenanigans so you won't have many chances to get it!
Well it's not the Horus heresy so I'll take a stab at it
>>50678458
You better.
Here's another taste: Their Master of the Forge dates back to the HH, in a Dreadnought. And he's a grumpy based granpa. From what I understood from the book, he never got deactivated, since he was not crippled before being interned, but rather went into a Dread willingly, because they lacked techmarines and needed a way to preserve him from battle.

If we're playing FATE, that's his high concept. One of his secondary aspects must be Proud Of Its Power.
What could be his trouble? I want to avoid anything having to do with furries wanting to fug him, as that's not a valid trouble according to the book, it's just expected of him like a detective is expected to be disliked by criminals.

Tangentially related to this (not meant to hijack your thread, but it's not really worth its own either), is the Space Hulk vidya any good?

Here is hoping the game is open to mods. Looks like the best thing since sliced bread.
>>50677859
Having played the open beta briefly, I doubt it's going to be too different. That means fun for fans of 40k, but nothing groundbreaking or amazing, and a few niggling details.
Are there any legends/stories from where your from that you just find too good not to include in you games?
Too good? No, I have to go to Scandinavia for those. For my motherland, I guess there's a legend about some eco-terrorist trying to destroy the ecology by planting appleseeds everywhere, and the Giant who chops down groves of them with a single swing accompanied by a blue bovine companion.

Sadly I'm not particularly knowledgeable on the finer points of my own country's (Finland) mythology. Which reminds me that I should ask my friend again to lend me that book about Finnish mythology I asked to loan last summer but we both forgot about. It is something I should look into.
From the less detailed stuff I know, there's the same kinds of trolls you find in Scandinavian countries. Either they're big brutes who hate the sound of church bells and lob boulders at churches (but always seem to miss), or they're magical tricksters that take on the appearance of humans to play tricks on them (which may range from annoying to fatal).
Then you've got elves (haltija), which is really more of a general term for nature spirit (and literally means something like "owner" or "holder"). Wild nature of all kinds was under their domain, and when going there it was considered proper to appease them and get their favor. Like, with the water-elf of the local lake likes you you'll catch a lot of fish, and if you piss off the wood-elf you're going to end up getting lost in the woods despite being sure you knew the way home.
Then there's gnomes (tonttu), or whatever you want to call those little guys with beards and red hats that are used as tacky garden sculptures and make toys for Santa. They're kind of like elves, but for civilization instead of wilderness. Every house, bridge, barn, mill, etc. has one living in there somewhere. If you're nice to it and leave it offerings, it'll help you out by cleaning things up, taking care of animals, etc. Piss it off and it'll keep you up all night making ungodly noise, kill your prized cow, or something else equally nasty.
Then there's a few other things, like how the creature the Finnish word for succubus comes from is actually Finnish Baba Yaga, who is an evil sorceress that eats men and occasionally transforms into an attractive woman to lure people to her lair.
Is it wrong that I feel more comfortable in playing female PCs than male ones?
The only real time I played male characters was Deathwatch. 1 of 2 of my Dark Heresy characters was female and 1 of 2 of my Rogue Trader. Characters were female. In DnD played a female monk and a male wizard.
In Kuro I played a female student.
In Ryuutama I played a male doctor.
All 3 Mage the Awakening characters were female.
All 2 of my Vampire the Requiem chacters were male.
My first ever tabletop rpg character when I was in highschool was female swordsman.
Whenever I think character concepts 2/3 are female.
Anyone have this problem?
>>50676485
>Is it wrong
No, but it is offputting, especially since most guys have problems rp'ing women in any format, and on the other side of the door, making a gender, not a character.
It's a matter of preference, that's about it. Some people get their panties in a bunch about guys playing women 'wrong', I have yet to meet any guys in that camp that aren't insufferable.
Personally, I used to have this 'problem'. Then it shifted over to a preference for fuccbois.

Beastfolk Boogaloo Edition
I know there's already a character art thread, but I was hoping this could be a more specific one. I like beastfolk, but it's such a bitch finding decent images of them that don't go into furry territory.

Why did the primarchs (for the most part) bend over for the Emporer?
>>50673663
Unfortunately, the Primarch with the best ass was never bent over by daddy. To this day, the Emperor never found his sexiest descendant.
For example the Emporer was basically the antithesis of what Dorn, Guilliman, and Vulkan believed in.
In Guillimans case the imperium offered litteraly nothing. He ready has a prosperous and noble empire where Justice and merit reigned supreme. The imperium was nothing but a dystopia in comparison.
Did they have daddy issues or fearful of the Emporer?
Or was the Emporers messages and goals really that good? Considering he never disclosed the true threat of chaos what could be the appeal?

They're not "realistic". In a world where wizards can undo reality and monks can talk to animals, sometimes you just want to play a sword guy who can be a useless sack of metal and shit without being a total weeaboo like all those fucking weaaboo norse legends about weeaboo vikings slaying dragons and seamonsters and shit.

>good magic is powered by repeating digits

>hackers like weeve and the people at Wikileaks fight against the megacorp satanists
>threat of WW III
>"anarchists" and "rebels" all over the world are fighting to protect the state, war and the mega-corporations
>fascists are the ones fighting for people's right to exist and for self determination and to prevent war
>there might be some sort of dimension hopping shenanigans going on
>CERN might be involved with the satanists

Kek and Kauket, Deities of Darkness, Obscurity and Night. Kek (means darkness. He was the god of the darkness of chaos, the darkness before time began. He was the god of obscurity, hidden in the darkness. The Egyptians saw the night time, the time without the light of the sun, as a reflection of this chaotic darkness.
The feminine of the god Kek, Kauket was a much more obscure goddess than her husband. She was a snake-headed woman who ruled over the darkness with her husband. Her name also meant darkness, as did her husband's name, but with a feminine ending.

But anon, that clearly states that the mists are a relatively new thing, with an emphasis on relative.
Are you telling me that Norscans raided Ulthuan for years, decades, perhaps centuries, but never sailed past it and found their way to the New World? And that no other people did this, nor shared this knowledge of the Norscans?
If anything, that citation makes the previous observations (>>50643503 >>50652476) even more solid.
What's the closest to Magical Realm territory you've treaded in a non-erotic tabletop game?
>>50653573
Infested Terrans in a starcraft game.
I made a tomboy character.
In another game, I had a GM and another player joke about that player's character being gay for my paladin. It made me uncomfortable, and not in a 'stoppit boner' sort of way.
>>50653573
Had a closet vorefag in one of my games once. He got really bummed when a purple wyrm failed to grapple and swallow his character.
Other than that, I usually stay away from most things that are part of my players magical realm.
