How do I promote character interaction? How do I make sure the PCs get to know each other? How do I nudge them to bond into a coherent unit of misfits? How do I make them feel they belong? How do I promote roleplay?
>>50751317
If you're not confident that you have strong roleplayers who can make this work themselves, you're going to have to either establish a bond prior to game start(collaborative chargen, party template), or you're going to have to throw a few social situations in there that won't immediately put people at cross odds with each other.
>>50751317
>How do I promote character interaction?
Don't use indirect speech. Talk to them directly.
>How do I make sure the PCs get to know each other?
First they have to know themself better.
Make them familiar with the setting, why their characters should care and give them and standpoint.
Then they may start arguing with each other.
>How do I nudge them to bond into a coherent unit of misfits?
MONEY
Jokes aside give them a reason to work with each other without making it too forced so they might not break up after they flee prison or something like that.
Knowing the rough types the player gonna play helps.
>How do I make them feel they belong?
By putting effort in it.
Make sure you connect to the characters, not the players.
>How do I promote roleplay?
All of the above.
>>50751431
So basically, start with a few standard quests to allow the players to familiarize with themselves and the setting before going into the big stuff?
Hey, I'm looking to start tabletop gaming with a group of friends(all of us will be new to this) as the DM. The plan is to start with DnD 4th Edition.
What are some things I should know/focus on to make it fun for everyone?
Anything you want to say will be appreciated.

Do your very best to ensure everyone is having a fun and memorable time.

>What are some things I should know/focus on to make it fun for everyone?
Are you capable of thinking?
If so, you already know the answer.
Stop asking retard questions.
>>50751188
Don't start with 4e, it's too gamey.
-How it's abilities are set out encourages combat focus over role play more than any of the other D&D system.
-The combat scales poorly, get ready for combats that will take hours
If you really want to start with D&D start with 5e, it's reasonably balanced, it's still supported, there's a bigger community for it, it's a better game and the mechanics are just better. I'd also argue how they've set up the game encourages a better player and dm mentality if you read the stuff early on.
4e to me just feels like ttrpg mmo edition.
My group got into playing tabletop games through Pathfinder (god help us) and after a year or so now we're tired of the system. Can /tg/ recommend any other fantasy-esque systems that maybe aren't quite as bloated?
Look at GURPS Dungeon Fantasy. There is a new box set for it coming out next year which should make things even easier. Smooth resolution, very fun tactical combat, and it has lots of out of combat options as well.
Shadow of the Demon Lord has a very easy resolution system and a lot of customization options without getting too complicated

I started playing 2nd edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay recently and I love it. It's entirely based on percentile roles which makes rolls and tests extremely easy to figure out. Combat can be fatal even if you're character is a veteran so there's essentially no power playing or demi=god characters. Magic is unpredictable with miscasting at best and completely damming chaos corruption at worst. Careers are better than classes in my opinion cause it's a more natural progression of a character and has more roleplaying hooks. Subtract the magic and you can run any kind of low or no magic home-brew you can think of.
>there is no Warhammer 40k trading card game to compete with MTG
I'd play the shit out of it.
What is wrong with Warhammer Conquest?
>>50751121
Does it have regular expansions and a competitive community with tournaments around it?
>>50751137
>regular expansions
Yes
>Reasonably sized competitive community
Like anything that isn't MTG or YuGiOh, no. To be honest if they wanted to get a card game that people actually played they would have to do an online one.
So im sure I am just not trying hard enough, but does anyone know where I can get a PDF of this book. I have checked every single PDF cache for 40k I can find and NONE of them have this one particular codex on it, any help would be appreciated.
Bump?

It's on scribd. Unsure as to the current method to download from scribd without jumping through hoops but it's there.

>The ichneumon is the enemy of the dragon. When it sees a dragon, the ichneuman covers itself with mud, and closing its nostrils with its tail, attacks and kills the dragon. Some say it is also the enemy of the crocodile and the asp, and attacks them in the same way. Just as the mongoose hunts the cobra, the ichneumon hunts the dragon.
What do dragons fear, /tg/?
>>50750726
Nah.
Dragons fear humans.
They either end up shanked or get fucked into submission.
>>50750726
Interresting. What's the etymological link between this and the ichneumon wasp?
>>50750726
Elves.
In Eberron and Faerun, it's the Elves who destroy their empires or fight them to a stalemate.

I can only assume they're counting waiting for combos to finish as part of the game length. Games of Vanguard and Wixoss are usually decided long before the usual game of YGO.

This is why wargaming can't take off there, forget table space.
Hey guys!
Used to play Tau back in the day. Took a 10 year hiatus. Recently wanted to get back into the hobby, but so much has changed. What happened with the classic firewarriors? Why can't I buy 12 firewarriors per box anymore for $45 cdn? the new boxes seem to charge more for less. What gives?
Also, any important rules changes/ lore updates for Tau I should know about?
Tau can use limited warp drives despite having no psykers to access the warp.
The Imperial invasion into Tau space that the Tau repelled was upgraded from a minor crusade to a massive one.
Aun'Va, leader of the Ethereals was assassinated by an Eversor assassin, the crazy drugged up skull-faced guys.
The Tau use huge mechas, the Riptide and others. People hate playing against them. Tau are now top tier or at least high tier, unlike a decade ago when they were at the bottom.
If you liked being the underdog back then you won't like where they are now, both in story and tabletop.
The current edition of the rules generally favors shooting armies more than melee armies, so it's a good time to be Tau.

10 years of inflation and market change
Oh SHIT! Orks attack in 30 minutes. How do you fortify your encampment? You are bunkered up in a small abandoned fishing village and already used up the last of your explosives this morning.
>>50750255
>implying my encampment wasn't fortified with trenches and barbed wire 10 minutes after I arrived
>>50750572
With what barbed wire?
That stuff is heavy. Do you carry a roll with you everywhere you go? At best you have whatever fits in a jeep and on the backs of your squad.
>>50750695
Sergeant, I've just finished using planks from the jetty to tie all that old fishing line in knotted loops with the fishing hooks.
Let me know if you want us to position our Chimeras in the water to mow down the Orks as they drown.

Did you allow the mage to make a Knowledge (Planes) check to learn about what could kill him?
Pathfinder General /pfg/
Would you rather be quietly accepted into a campaign without /pfg/ caring about it, or have a super-popular character app for a high-profile /pfg/ campaign (like RotJR) that everyone cheers for but doesn't make the GM's cut?
You guys seem to prefer the latter, so maybe that's why RotJR is so popular?
