There's an entire chapter in their book covering this, but essentially you choose a kind of bonus/penalty and the people/conditions it applies in. So you could give Hinata a Destiny that will give her good luck when she tries to free the Branch House.

Namely because I don't put fucking bullshit unwinnable encounters into my games, unless it's something bullshit like "5 goblins v.s. the manifest will of the divine pantheon taking the form of a celestial army of angels"

Okay, so our party just went past 10th level and the DM gave out a lot weapons that deal ridiculous amounts of damage to non-magic users because he said it'll let the compensate for later levels. One of the party members has a modified Oathbow that deals 2d10 +1d8 magical damage, and another has this sword that deals 2d12 +6. And yes, the +6 is a magical bonus to damage and the sword does deal magic damage. As one the magic users of the party, it feels like I'm being pushed to the utility role. And recently, the other players are hounding me to do so, since "I don't deal damage anyway".

Is this still balanced? Was the DM right about later levels? Am I just being whiny bitch? What's your stand on homebrew weapons, /tg/?

>it feels like I'm being pushed to the utility role.
It's kind of hard to answer without knowing the system (I can infer D&D, but what edition?)
That said, outside of 4E, you absolutely are a utility role.

Your main strength is how many options you have to tackle any given problem.
Haste isn't always the best option, but it's almost always stronger than Fireball.

Spellcasters get OP after 10th level.

Another thing is that if youre going to play a spellcaster, you have to think like one.

Remember that HP isn't the only stat you roll against. Enemies have to make save throws too.

Just because you can't cave someone's head in doesn't mean you can't take control of them, misdirect them or cripple them. Or fly around them. Or drop them through a hole into another plane of existence.

If you think that's "utility" and it's not fun for you to play that character maybe consider reclassing or re-rolling

What's your most and least favorite army to play against?
>>
>>50763247
I don't care about armies, I care about the people playing them. Example:
I have a friend who has to 'win' every conversation, argument, dick waving contest, everything. So he turns out to be a WAAC fag who literally cheats.
I also have this friend up at my game store who, without fail, I have a GREAT game against where we joke about shit and just have fun.
I don't like playing against the first. I love playing against the latter.
>>
Why doesn't GW do their own BattleScribe?

It's not like it would free you up to not purchase a codex, and the final step could be to add your army to a cart and order it. It seems backward that they expect people to do lists with pen and paper and then have to math out the boxes to buy.

I can't recall ever seeing a fanmade miniature close to it and the games have been out for years.

And what would the closest actually usuable rule-set be if someone made it? Just a command squad and giving the officer a power weapon + Boltgun?
8 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>50763054
No, but i've always wanted to.

No reason why you couldnt make custom rules. Power claws + storm bolter isnt that hard, just pay the right points

A good start might be the scions tempestor prime with his coat. Then buy some power claws from anywhere and cut the claws off and attach to wrists. Lastly get a grey knights stormbolter, they come with a side mounted mag and are meant for the wrist. Then paint 'em up. But there are pleanty of alternatives. You could use the cadian command squad.
>>
>>50763256
My kit-knowledge is a little rusty, but I think the body would work with any cadian trooper legs and the cadian command squad torso.

The cape, pauldrons and fists have to be made out of green stuff (there aren't any identical human-sized power fists for both arms). Maybe Terminator arms (the ones holding the Bolters/Hammers/Shields/nothing) could work for the fists, but I'm not sure.

The Grey Knight Stormbolters are little too big for imperial humans. I would cut a bit off at the bottom (see pic) and replace the magazine on the side with a Bolt-Pistol mag (makes it look smaller instantly).

My head knowledge is very poor, but I think one of the catachan command squad heads looks like Stubbs if you file away the mohawk. The bald, scarred head from the cadian command squad would make a nice Sturnn. For Alexander, I guess a lot of heads would work, but the iconic Visor would need to be greenstuffed.

The unlockable golden Breast-plate for Alexander and Stubbs can be made by replacing the command squad torso with one of the knight torsos from the Imperium Cavalry from Warhammer.

sup guys, i need your help

im in the middle of creating an anthropomorphic flying squirrel race for my D&D Campaign

lucky for me, i found some racial traits for a squirrel folk race on the internet, and i plan on making some minor changes to it but the main problem is...

that i got no idea how a society of flying squirrel people would work, given the fact that they can't wear belts, shirts, or any kind of clothes without affecting their gliding capability

i remembered the Desmodu have this same problem and gave them a quick check, but their sling swimsuit ala Borat style doesn't seem too convincing to me, other than that all i can think of its a necklace along with bracelets and anklets with socket/rings for carrying tools, but still they wont be able to wear armor so, what do you guys think? what solution can you find to this?

This more belongs on /x/ than /tg/, but I decided to post it here since /tg/ is better at "gaming the system".

I suspect that I have recently acquired a notebook which causes anything written in it to come true, within currently unknown limitations. I suspect it operates through something similar to prayer, given that the notebook has bible quotes on every page.

My first experience with the notebook was the first thing I wrote in it; approximately that a recent scary experience of mine was a learning opportunity. Shortly after doing so, I was overcome with a sense of calm analysis which was an intensely interesting experience where I felt very in-tune to everything happening around me. Sharp mentally. The bible quotes on that page was Josh 1:9 “Be strong and courageous! For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Well, I hadn’t suspected anything immediately. Until today. Today, idly musing to myself “what if it’s a magic notebook, haha”, I wrote on two separate pages that “I will win the lottery with the ticket I am about to buy tonight, the 18th of Decemeber 2016 A.D.” The first page written on had the quote Ps. 100:3 “He made us, and we are His. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture.” The second page written on had the quote Ps. 55:22 “Give your burdens to the LORD, and He will take care of you.”

Notice the wording of what I wrote. When I went out to then buy some tickets, the machine was closed; I couldn’t win tonight if I didn’t buy tickets!” I then went to a second location, the entirety of which was closed. Sufficiently spooked and unwilling to try a third location due to the cold and distance, I decided to return home and write this post.

I am not convinced of any power, of course; stranger things have happened and I could easily be stretching interpretation. That’s why I need tests. Relatively foolproof things to write in this book that are also very rare. Rule boundary tests would also be useful so long as they are not dangerous.

The next quote is Rom 12:2, “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.”, followed by Matt 5:9 “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”

Bonus points if the tests do not presume or suspect an absence of power, as I fear that may offend the source of that power.
>>
Duh, you just write "I will know how the journal works." Bam, problem solved.

Try the lottery again, only write "I will win the lottery with the next ticket I buy." Then buy a ticket.

I'm working on integrating Kenku into my setting and am wondering what makes people like them.
The no creativity thing is interesting, but seems like it'd make them boring to roleplay as a PC since you will just sit in the backseat and follow the party all the time.
Mimicing is cool but doing only that makes it seem like it would just be gimmicky in play (do kenku players even adhere to it, or do they generally just speak like normal and it's assumed they communicate what they say via mimiced noises in the fiction?)
The rest is quite minor, but maybe being cursed by a greater being, wanting to regain the ability to fly etc. are wanted as well.
>>
>>50762544
I think Kenku is great for a NPC or DMPC travelling with the party.

>an inquisitor and his retinue must go undercover as gue'vesa to stop a Tau research project into the Warp that unknowingly threatens to open a rift and flood the sector with Daemons

How realistic is this for a campaign? How would you make it work?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Pretyy good. In ye olde lore, before GW started the whole eternally stuck in 40,000 retcon train, the Tau tried to access the Warp during the last world campaign. Basically GW would log the victories and losses in stores for a set period of time, and writers would come up with a story based on that.

The Tau had a whole storyline about learning about the Warp. They kidnapped and tortured Eldar to learn about the Warp (and got butchered by Eldar retaliatory strikes - Eldar vs. Tau battles were decided in favour of the Eldar).
But more importantly was the Tau trying out proper Warp engines, and promptly abandoning the design and banning all research into it.

Oldschool Warhammer had the Tau greedy for Warp knowledge and that greed resulted in them making horrid mistakes, so yeah. Go right ahead.
>>
>>50761336
>How realistic is this for a campaign?

Not bad.

>How would you make it work?

By having the Tau be dupes. There should be a Chaos cult, or at least a dark adept of some kind, pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
>>
I'd like to run a game where the players are Imperials who infiltrated a Tau held human world and have to perform false flag attacks against humans and even loyalists to turn public opinion against the Tau

Hell yeah! Played an awesome one-shot Halloween special of D&D5e where the party was composed of four evil bastards who came together for security and work their respective big evil plans out of their mountain castle headquarters.

The party was as follows.
>Gnomish vampire mastermind whose goal was to take some backwards hicks and make them into a glorious civilization that he would rule.
>Dwarvish evocation wizard who made contact with a primordial and now has a fixation on storms and wishes to bring his primordial buddy into the material plane.
>Goliath werewolf barbarian who is obsessed with elves and is seeking is elf wife who ran away with their children. He wants to kill her, turn his children, and start his own pack.
>Tiefling monk who didn't really have a goal. We kinda were hoping to run his player through character creation without telling him it was an all evil campaign and enjoy the resulting hilarity of him slowly realizing everyone else is evil.

Evil campaigns, at least for me, make me think about characters in new and fascinating ways...
