It's Dada surrealism, it's also a videogame RPG with stats and stuff, which is free to try.
It actually has a coherent story line and characters, interdenominational nomad fleeing from cultural degeneration, talking omnicidal buddihst gun, keyheaded factory working woman gone militant suffragette and a sentient mouth looking for redemption, to name a few of the main characters.

So Colonel, if I'm understanding you correctly. You're saying that the penal Regiment designated "Theta Gamma", will be staying on planet in order to celebrate Sanguinilla? On a jungle deathworld?
------------------------------------------------------------
1d4Chan: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Campaign:Penal_regiment_designation_/tg/

Steam Group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/40k_penal_regiment.

FAQ:
>Why don't you guys move to quest?
We're not a quest that's why. Quests are directed by a single GM giving choices to the players, this is completely freeform.

>Then what the fuck is this?
Somewhat of a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay set in the grim darkness of the far future.

>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 4PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.

>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.

>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.

>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.

>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

What are some systems that can handle PvP well? I've been thinking of running a campaign based around the premise of the PCs being able (or even encouraged) to join opposing factions or fight for opposing objectives, which would allow them to go up against each other.

Legends of the Wulin has fantastic combat which works very well for PvP.

Characters have a lot of options and engaging in a fight requires a lot more thought than most RPGs, while its system for the consequences of battle also leaves a lot of room for results other than one person straight up dying.

One of my defining memories of a LotW game was a PvP duel with another player. Our characters had never really seen eye to eye and over time tensions grew until they had a duel. The battle itself was really fun, pitting our characters against each other, figuring out the others weaknesses while trying to capitalise on our strengths, as well as making use of some of the systems more esoteric mechanics where your characters beliefs, ideals and emotions can have a real effect on the fight.

I honestly can't remember who won, because by the end of the fight it didn't matter- The characters had come to understand one another through the clash of blades, gaining a newfound respect and sense of camaraderie. And the system supported this, letting us both choose to make the result of the battle a mutual buff, giving extra impact to the mutual understanding gained from the duel.
>>
>>50772107
That sounds awesome. I'll make sure to check it out, thanks!
>>
>>50772904

Word of warning, the core book for the system is fucking awful. The editing and layout job is one of the worst I've seen in a published RPG, which makes actually understanding and making use of the system a real bitch. It also has a few core imbalance problems that aren't too bad but still need tweaking to make everything run smoothly.

This isn't to discuss the system, but the actual fanbase, why D&D (every edition ever) and PF have so many hellbent shills? Go to any other rpg system thread and even their fans admit the problems, complexity, ect (for example Anima BF), go to a D&D/PF thread and ask for a solution for a problem and their fans will immediately shut you down and dismiss your question aluding to those problems not existing. Why?

This never happened to me with other rpgs. Well, I lie, I found some groups in where they didn't accept any argument about their homebrewed system.

3.5 was the right system in the right place at the right time. It caught the early wave of the internet explosion and reached lots of audiences who had never experienced TTRPGs before, many of whom still have yet to be exposed to any other games.

This created an oddly insular culture where the 3.PF way of doing things is the only way they know, and any diverge from it makes them uncomfortable and defensive. A /tg/ meme is '3.PF cause brain damage', and while I think it's something of an overstatement I do think that people whose only experience in 3.PF do develop a certain warped set of expectations as to what RPGs are meant to be that don't do them any favours in the wider community.

It's also why you see attempts to shove D&D mechanics into every fucking setting regardless of how appropriate they are. Like the stupid fucking Starfinder thing Paizo are doing at the moment. The 3.5 OGL should be enough evidence that d20 mechanics do not fucking work outside their comfort zone.
>>
>>50772023
>The 3.5 OGL should be enough evidence that d20 mechanics do not fucking work outside their comfort zone.
Or even within their comfort zone.
>>
>>50772101

They can work, it just requires a lot of fiddling. Ignoring most core materials for better designed third party stuff and restricting the game to tier 3/4 classes can let you run an actually mechanically okay game of 3.PF, although it's still a bitch for the GM to make encounter design work since the busted as fuck CR system is no help at all.

D20 Modern use to be the thing once upon a time, and one of my favorite D20 Modern settings was Urban Arcana.

Seeing as the whole D20 Modern system has been abandoned by WotC, I can't help but wonder if there's a modern equivalent to the system, by WotC or otherwise.

Well, if you want something by WoTC I will direct you to a handful of articles and an Unearthed Arcana Article from 5th Edition.
http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/my-new-d20-modern-campaign WoTC's Dan Helmick's article on some added things needed to use 5E in modern settings beyond what's listed in the DMG.

http://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/UA_ModernMagic.pdf The Unearthed Arcana called Modern Magic

And I think besides one or two classes, the thing that's really missing is Backgrounds with modern settings considered in design. Not so hard to whip up all things considered as adapting occupations from Modern and Urban Arcana.
>>
Why not just keep playing d20 Modern? I still do. The Agents of PSI setting from the core book is one of my favorite settings. Yeah, it's bland and there's not much there to work with, but it seems to just rub me the right way.

So let's say there are several hundred people living in a community that is situated... on top of a colossus. They'll have all sorts of challenges: food, sanitation, and so on. But I want to focus on one specific problem. How do they interact with the outside world?

>The colossus moves rather slowly, 5mph at the most, but it's always moving. Even if it sleeps, it keeps walking in its sleep
> The colossus seemingly reacts only to danger or to physical injury, otherwise allowing a bunch of humans to live and even build shit on it
>The colossus's movements are *weakly* predictable. Like "It goes north in the summer, south in the winter," but it may sometimes go on either side of a particular forest or even occasionally bulldoze straight through the middle of that forest.

How can you get off the colossus to talk and trade with the people of normal villages? How do you get back on the colossus? What steps can you take to make sure you get back on if you're on the ground overnight, or if you've been gone for months?

How large is the area it wonders? Do the local peoples know of its existence and for how long have they known of it?
>>
>>50771970
If it's bumbling about at 5mph, 24/7, that's a range of over a hundred miles per day. But let's say it's not going in a straight line, and it's covering some sort of circuit.

If the colossus spent about a week completing this circuit, its 'territory' would be over 200 miles across. Slowing it down to 3 or 4mph (walking pace for a normal human) would still result in a massive territory. And if it's making these circuits once a week, and especially if the circuit 'wobbles' north or south depending on the season, there's going to be a LOT of locals who can potentially know about it.

I've been wanting to play a space game recently. I miss the old BFG game, but models are too expensive, starter boxes don't exist to get people into the game, and GW won't support it so there is no point.

Any other suggestions? I'd like something that has the same feel of ponderous, powerful, pugilistic ship combat if possible.

Miniature recommendations also would be nice.

Not sure OP, a lot of games fail to capture the sex of BFg.
>>
Just keep playing BFG op.

Tons of rules expansions/fixes are online, just do a quick google search.

Not sure what to do about the models though.
>>
I enjoy Firestorm Armada. It's a slightly faster game with an edge of beer and pretzels, but it's a good laugh and the way ships move does give it a slower pace and flow than most wargames.

Alternatively you could try out the BFG vidya, apparently it's pretty damn good.

Hello /teej/
I am working on putting together a campaign set in a fantasy version of ancient Britain. harsh lands inhabited by vicious monsters, doughty warriors and similar, based in part on old celtic myths. I just really like those myths and legends, overall.

But here's the thing. I also want to have a bit of a footing in actual history, so I'd like some help finding some cool art of pre-Norman Britain both people, arms and armor, buildings or whatever.

Also, what do you properly call pre-Saxon Britain? "Celtic" is the common term but that's very inaccurate since the tribes inhabiting the British Isles were never called "celts" and had a quite different culture from the continental celts.

Also, what's up with the picts? Where did they come from and why were they always at war with everybody?

Arthurian stuff is welcome too.

>Also, what do you properly call pre-Saxon Britain?

Real nigga autists call that "Brythonic"

As for what it might look like, the Welsh are a Brythonic people that still speak a Brythonic language, so ancient Wales/Welsh is a good fit
>>
>>50772117

pretty sure helmets and shields like that were purely decorative and not meant to be used
>>
You could say Gaels, but that might just be for Ireland specifically. Brythonic might be better for Britain specifically, but for the whole British Isles? I'd honestly say Celtic.

At least here in Ireland, we just say Celts and Irish interchangeably, and the language is an Insular Celtic language, Irish Gaelic (or just Irish) with Scottish Gaelic being its sister Insular language. Welsh and all the rest are Brythonic, I believe. I'm really no historian, but this is just stuff I've been told/read.

If they have some kind of deal with a haemonculi they can be revived.
They cut off a part of them and keep it alive like a lich phylactery and in the case of their death they grow it in to a new body.

Only the rich Deldar can afford it so the regular warriors and slaves are just fucked when they die.
