Pathfinder General /pfg/

Would you rather be quietly accepted into a campaign without /pfg/ caring about it, or have a super-popular character app for a high-profile /pfg/ campaign (like RotJR) that everyone cheers for but doesn't make the GM's cut?
You guys seem to prefer the latter, so maybe that's why RotJR is so popular?

>THIS IS IMPORTANT!
If you want build advice make sure to say what 3pp you can use, if any.

I think I figured out the reason most of /pfg/ doesn't play.

From what I've seen when people suggest not allowing all of DSP content, or not all races (plus 3rd party races), or suggest using golarion (except if it's an AP for some odd reason) /pfg/ will have extreme adverse reactions.

I'm not saying everyone has an adverse reaction to everything, but most folks here have a few things that trigger their autism something fierce which bars them from applying to the majority of games.

Heck, if I said:
"I'm running a game in a custom setting, you can play Humans, Orcs, half-orcs, plus these custom races." most folks would say "Fuck touching that with a 10-foot pole, I can't play kitsune". In fact I saw essentially that post responded to with people bitching they couldn't be "cute". It's very odd.

It seems for most of the people in no game hell it is to a large degree a hell of their own design.

It's almost like /pfg/ isn't a hive mind.
I need Psionics at an absolute minimum. Path of War is preferred but not necessary.

I'm fine with race restrictions. I hate most fantasy races anyway.

Not a huge fan of Golarion, but it isn't a deal breaker.

/pfg/ will throw a fit if a game bans any of the following:

1. Initiators.
2. Full casters.
3. Full manifesters.
4. Spheres of Power.

Even if it allows lots of other 3pp, like psionics and avowed and masquerade reveler and whatever, ban any of those four and /pfg/ riots.

Why?

>>

That's what I'm saying. Not everyone is triggered by everything, but most folks are triggered by 1 or 2 common things to a point it bars them for most games.
>>
>>50749549
>I think I figured out the reason most of /pfg/ doesn't play.
Counterpoint: it's hard to find some to DM, and lots of people would prefer to play in person, making it even more difficult to find a group.

whatever you said is cute, too, I guess.

what's a full manifester
what's a sphere of power

Sorry, I just have the CRB.
>>
>>50749593
I'm talking about online games. In person games are an entirely different animal. No game hell for people who only want to do in person games is an entirely different issue most of the time and has lots of its own problems.
>>
>>50749592
Well, given how long most sessions are and how much time this hobby takes up why WOULD you play in a game with criteria you wouldn't find acceptable.

No game is better than a bad game.
>>
>>50749549
It's definitely easy to point out the problem, but after playing a couple of bad games it's not hard to start singling out certain recurring problems. I've never had a good experience with a campaign centered around androids, but I try to keep an open mind.
>>
>>50749586
Because at its core, Pathfinder is about options. And to take any away is to take away why people still play the game, next to people playing just to see crazy cool shit and interact with other characters.

An initiator is a class that uses maneuvers from Path of War. It's like the Tome of Battle, but for Pathfinder.

A full manifester is a class that has 9th level psionic powers.

A Sphere of Power is an alternate magic system.

>when people suggest not allowing all of DSP content

Most DSP stuff is ported versions of 3.5 official stuff. I think most games do better with psionics and weaboo fightan allowed.

>or not all races
No one has a problem with not allowing some races, because technically out there somewhere is a race that's a gargantuan sized creature with a perfect fly speed of 240 and seven bonus feats alongside a rule that says all of its stats are equal to its highest stat.

That is something that makes sense to disallow. But when you're disallowing things that are functionally core races (elves, orcs, halflings) or are *very very* similar in terms of balance, you should have a pretty good reason as to why. Generally a reason much better than "I dont want you playing one" or "they dont exist lul". If you can come up with a compelling backstory, sure i'll let you play a kitsune... if you cant and you're an asshole on top of it, I probably wont.

>suggest using golarion

As far as kitchen sink goes, golarion has problems. Most fantasy settings do (be it FR, Eberron or whatever), and they're generally written with some sort of tone in mind. The tone of golarion is basically "what happens if we let SJW's run amok in forgotten realms", which most people don't want to fucking deal with.

The adventure paths are usually alright though.

>>

Because it's a vocal collection of faggots who sometimes shill their faggotry ironically just to try and fuel discussion. Most people don't apply or talk about RotJR.

I'm one of the ironic faggots, it's hard to repeatedly talk about something you really like without coming across as an annoying faggot, so why not identify myself as one

There are 80 people in the waiting room, most of the general is in there. Even accounting for "observers".

Yes, because that's not a specific performance. He can take Perform (sexy dance) or Perform (Manilow-esque crooning) but seduction isn't a specific act.

>>
>>50749549
Quite frankly, a lot of my bitching about PoW comes from the fact that it's the only thing that ever gets paired with paired with "Gestalt, possibly with with SoP allowed" whenever a game comes up, and I don't like any of the initiating classes when you throw gestalt into the mix. Except maybe Stalker. Maybe in PoW Expanded 2: initiator Boogaloo I'll find some archetypes I fall in love with, but right now I'm just kind of sick of it.
>>
>>50749850
>elves, gnomes, etc

In most peoples versions of fantasy, deleting these races leaves large blank spaces that are hard to fill, that most people try to just handwave away. If you were to delete the dwarves, elves, hobbits or orcs from lord of the rings you'd end up with a very different story.

>If you can come up with a compelling backstory, sure i'll let you play a kitsune...
To add onto this I have in the past had custom race lists and most often do not allow elves. This to a degree is because of extremely aged characters (sometimes several hundred years old) is something I personally dislike in the hands of PCs because I have never seen someone play one convincingly. In addition I simply do not want that kind of longevity and hindsight on the player's side. Also I simply do not want elves and instead have humans + custom races.

However I have had people throw fits specifically over elves, whining over "I want to be an elf" despite the fact I have said there are none.

My last custom race list was the following:
>Humans
>Vodyanoy
>Borovoi
>Rusalka
>Domovoi
>Kikimora

>Level one, gives you two attacks at full BAB as a -standard action-

this is completely retarded. You have to take 10 feats for two weapon fighting to have it STILL suck ass, and they just hand you an extra attack at full BAB and it's not even a full round action?

Ok, whoever wrote this had no clue what they were doing. I understand martial shit is stupidly underpowered as written, but to just ignore the design in place so completely is pretty poor form.

So something I've noticed for wizards both as a player and as a GM is that they have piss poor saves.

Out of all classes they have some of the worst support for saves (the best being Barbarian/Paladin/Bloodrager). Besides will save (and even will save because no class features and not a huge incentive to pump will) a wizard once forced into combat has a really bad time against anyone who is forcing saves in their direction. As a GM I have had players throw fits over this (the one I remember distinctly was a "wizards are the OP" type). Spells don't do a great job of helping saves (there are very few direct buff to a save spells) and wizards don't have as many reroll abilities as other full casters (particularly certain witches/clerics).

Why do wizards have such ass saving throws?

Funny thing, I was planning an RotJR char that focused on this particular concept. He was a noble knight who was sent to rescue a princess from a dragon...only to realize that the princess was a dragon. Sure, he hates being set up, but his duty is to protect people...even if they're secretly fifteen feet tall and scaly.

I didn't go through with him because I couldn't really solidify his other gestalt half and I kept feeling guilty that if it does go lewd that it means he'll have to cheat on his darling pregnant dragon wife.

All without even a skerrick of actual casting ability, if you're into that sort of thing.

>>

Well you have to accept that this is entirely in the "uselessly overkill" range, but:

You can turn an x4 weapon into x5 with certain abilities. Make the weapon ... big... enough, and your combination of "next attack deals maximum damage" and "automatic hit, cannot be countered or immediate-actioned against, also is a threat" could, say, potentially, you know...

Well, let's say that if that's just the extra standard action from god of the hourglass, you've still got a full attack to use tempest volley on there, and you'll easily average over 900 DPR against that single target.

Of course as soon as it responds you can add in another full attack ... or full attack maneuver, using another counter there, for another 400-odd.

But that's talking about a level 17+ with rapid shot, semi-automatic on their beam cannon, a few levels of aegis, an akashic catalyst.... you're talking about a full build and you're still not talking about a barbarian charger or the like. It's pretty much a guaranteed blast though at least.

We're talking about it in here because it's a place to talk about it and trying to force people interested into somewhere else to talk about it has received mild success, and at least it's something to talk about (mostly character builds and golarion fluff) that isn't bitching about paizo/dsp/both/neither all the time, some actual constructive stuff going on about it in between the waifuing.

I planned on reconfiguring the discipline lists and limiting classes either to no supernatural disciplines or one supernatural discipline. I honestly do not like the themes of supernatural disciplines for martials.

Sand and wind can erode mountains. By employing a secret technique you can do what takes centuries in seconds.
>>
>>50750783
Wrath of Time
Discipline: Riven Hourglass (Strike); Level: 8
Prerequisites: Three Riven Hourglass maneuvers
Initiation Action: 1 standard action
Range: 60' cone
Target: Opponents and objects
Duration: Instant
DESCRIPTION

You open your Hourglass and those of all around you, willing their grains to scatter in an attempt to outright erase their futures. When you initiate this maneuver, you unleash a 60-foot cone of violent temporal energy, reducing people and objects alike to harmless white sand. Make an Autohypnosis check as part of this strike. Each opponent or object within the area takes damage equal to twice the result of your check. A successful Fortitude save (DC 18 + your initiation modifier) halves the damage. If this damage reduces a creature or object to 0 or fewer hit points, it is entirely disintegrated, leaving only a scattered pile of white dust.

>>50750792

>>
>>50750786
Sandblasting. And one thing that disintegrates is not even as supernatural as gaining temporary hitpoints from negating an attack (any attack) with your instincts anyways, right?
>>
>>50750809
The answer is it isn't.
Breath weapons are feared because what they're usually tied to (dragons for example) and forgot that it still gives a save to halve the damage (or all of it completely if evasion is in play).
>>
>>50750808
Actually, spells can still be cast: they'll immediately start functioning when you leave or it ends though they do tick down (so you can get all your buffs up or whatever). Spells that 'create matter' and are instantaneous (such as acid conjuration attacks...) can be fired into one no problem, and anything that begins its existence outside of it can be cast from within.

Meanwhile the guy with the sword can no longer get through DR or hurt them ghosts.
>>
>>50750843

Ok I'm trying to not be autistic, but that's not how nasuverse works at all. Fake Assassin is powered by magic because all incarnations upon the throne of heroes are. He doesn't even exist and his noble phantasm requires mana to function. If you're going to site a source at least site a source that supports your claim.
>>
>>50750910

Not actually true, read the FAQ.
>>
>>50750870
They aren't. I still don't like the themes. I don't like monks either for their themes.

Actually incorrect. Supernatural IS magical by pazio's definition. We've had this argument before. Everything supernatural is a kind of magic, just not a kind of spell.

Most of nasuverse requires magic to function. It's kind of like a basic building block of their universe.

It doesnt stop the characters from remarking "Holy shit, you just accomplished through martial skill what most people would consider magic".

I suppose I could link the Clementine vs Ainz fight from overlord, but that may still use MP as a base unit, because that tends to be how things like that do.

I need to throw a weapon as far as possible. Become "My reach is long" style hunter. These are my thoughts:

>Javelin (30 base)
>Hurler Barbarian (+10 ft)
>Longshot (spell) (+10 ft)
>Supple Wrist, Strong Arm (+10 ft)
>Greater Belt of Mighty Hurling (+10ft)
>Distance (Multiply it by 2)
>Long Shot (Reduces range penalty from -2 to -1)
>Other Feat (Don't remember the name but reduces thrown weapon penalty by flat 2)

Gives a 700ft throw at only a -3. As a barbarian this will do a lot more damage than your average normal ranged attack because it does 1.5x strength. Using rage, orc bloodline, and your budget you can easily get 50 strength for a +30 on every throw. With power attack that's another +18.

Technically speaking you don't even need the penalty reduction stuff if you take a dip into Warpriest, the Air Blessing, when applied to a weapon, will allow you to make any ranged attack without penalties for a minute. I would assume that this applies to thrown objects as well.

Give us political upheaval as knights followed by political intrigue as landed knights followed by religious upheaval as we go on Crusade against the heretical blasphemer.

And then it becomes anything from Ancient Aliens to Xenophobia as we struggle to hold onto our rich new lands as counts or dukes of a newly conquered continent.
>>
So, I'm the kind of person who wants to strip the bodies bare when I play. If I'm murdering people any way I have no qualms with stealing from the dead.

Generally when I kill sapient creatures and I have the time I will clear them out, leave any personal effects not worth much (jewelry, holy symbols, goods gets taken, journals, pictures, letters, etc. do not), and burry them properly (if I have an idea of what god they had I do my best to adhere to their tradition if I have time, if not I give them a Abadari burial). If I can find out a next of kin I generally take out 10% of what ever their shit sold for and send it back to them, anonymously if possible, with a letter saying their husband/spouse/son died in an accident. This is unless I know the family are also opposed to me then they don't get shit.

I also keep notes on all the inventory of stuff I take, including clothing and the like.

For animals I will butcher the animal if at all possible and cure hides/smoke meats. If the animal is valuable I will grab the valuable bits.

My fellow players and GM think these practices are weird and kind of evil. I need advice.

>>
>>50752332
So giving their family closure and not wasting the meat of animals like some kind of savage is considered evil to your group? I mean yeah it's far and above what most people would do, but I'd consider that far from evil, in some cultures most of what you're doing (aside from the whole "reselling their stuff" thing) is pretty respectful!
>>
>>50752361
it's pretty weird
mostly because it means you're very aware of the fact you're ending a lot of lives
to the point where it doesn't bother you in the slightest, and you have a weird little ritual after the fact
>>
>>50752371
Is that much worse than the vast amount of murderhobos we play who just cut people down left and right without even considering for a moment the ramifications of that act? Heck, even the good characters we've played have most likely had to fight other good or even neutral characters and subsequently ruined lives because of it.

IMO this guy is probably more sane than the rest of us.

I see a lot of avowed talk, so hopefully, this post is something you people will be interested in ;p

There's a lot of ground to cover, so I'm just going to link the paizo post I just made, along with the doc itself. Tl;dr: the next update of the Avowed 1 pdf is up. It's gone from 48 pages to 67 pages. We're chugging away on getting the rest of Avowed 2 ready for eyes, but right now, I wanted to let everyone know about this, and thank you all for the feedback, directly given or otherwise, that this community has made available.

http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2twzb&page=3?Forrestfire-Studios-A-new-company-a-unique#106

And the PDF itself: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5HkyGRtGZy3SWVhdWFBWERWWjg

I'm going to be rare for responses in the next week or so because of the Christmas Season + retail, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on these threads for any feedback you bring.

Hope you all enjoy. Happy pacting.

>>
>>50752600

Gibbons Engel is my new favorite iconic across all iconics across all 1PP and 3PP classes, just for his name.

I like to imagine he's this nebbish, nerdy looking guy who's done his pact-making and cloak-wearing to try to make himself seem like some all-powerful EVIL WIZARD when he's really just sort of meek and wants friends but is too afraid of human contact to go about it in a normal way, so he's sought out POWER OVERWHELMING to try and fix his life but really it just made it all more complicated.

Damned if the cloak isn't stylish though.

Okay, anons.

The party has finally hunted down their quarry and found his base.

I want him to be a Level 5 Hidden Blade (the DSP archetype for rogues). Which maneuvers should i have him use to make him a slippery bastard in combat?
>>
>>50752887

veiled moon stuff definitely.
>>
>>50752894
Yeah, for sure, I'm just not sure how many I should let an enemy have in comparison to a player.
>>
>>50752798
Sadly, I can't say that that's his story. Though that's pretty amazing.

Gibbons Engel is an old, kinda small man. He's done a lot of bad in his years, and in the twilight of his life, he had a realization that he wanted to leave a better mark on the world. So, he called up a fiend and sold his soul for power. Then he started wandering, looking like an evil wizard so he doesn't have to deal with people, and using his infernal superpowers to beat up bad guys. Rescue damsels, send them home safe with Old Dad advice on how to not get captured by villains and dragons again.

How do you build a wizard capable of destroying a campaign? Other than through item crafting and doing lots of damages in combat?
>>
>>50753081
>doing lots of damages in combat?
Not really the issue with a wizard.

The issue is attempted bypassing of encounters, which is often solved by a GMing thinking through the implications of the wizard's tool kit.

Dispel magic, teleportation, seek thoughts, divination, contact other plane, create undead, animate dead, knock, invisibility, fly, fabricate, animate object, dominate, and more. These are the kind of spells that hurt poorly thought out campaigns.
>>
>>50753081
as >>50753106 mentioned, Their ability to twist campaigns is the real thing that makes them bust campaigns. Or least the poorly thought out ones.
and most of those mentioned are 3rd lv spells or lower. Meaning a 5th lv Wiz can get some rather potent toys early.

What are your guy's opinion on stuff written by super genius games? Is it shit or good?
>>
>>50753385
They're very hit-or-miss. Take everything they make with a grain of salt because they don't understand balance properly, and what makes casters powerful. Stay away from the casters and you should get stuff that's decent - I particularly love the Mighty Godling.
