My character lived in a post-apocalyptic hellscape. Things ended on a somewhat promising note in that she won the love of the person she was infatuated with, and managed to reset the satellite weather-control network to reduce the freak and disastrous weather, but the future was still uncertain. It was still a post-apocalyptic hellscape, after all, and she was headed to a completely new continent with no idea what awaited her there. She had also endured so much trauma in her life that she could never be truly happy, just momentarily content. She probably wouldn't be able to handle a peaceful life, needing the challenges, dangers and hardships she has grown accustomed to in order to make the moments of safety, abundance and tranquility meaningful.

So my answer depends on the nature of the alternate timeline, as my character didn't so much take up adventuring as she was forced into a life-long struggle to survive. So what's different? Is it still a post-apocalyptic hellscape, only her family was never killed when she was young and she was always able to find a place of relative sanctuary or had a group to shield her from the need to go all survivalist? In that case option A would probably be a marked improvement. She'd be stressed, but would probably suffer less discontent with her comparatively sheltered life than she would after the lifetime of trauma. If, however, she was still fundamentally the same person, with the same psychological scarring that prevented her from being happy in a peaceful setting, she had no way to escape to the sort of life she had experienced in her original timeline, *and* she had feelings of longing on top of that, that would be a fate worse than death, and option B would be looking pretty good. Though being raped to death, which is the scariest thing I can think of for her, would be a pretty horrible way to go, I think a good argument could be made that her life is unpleasant enough that death, itself, would be preferable.

They were still edgelords mind you, but you could tell there is nuance to their characters, camaraderie and shared struggles/success among the Night Lords.

Also it convinced me that Curze was one of the most loyal if unstable Primarchs. He and Magnus were the most likely to have stayed loyal.

The players who showed up get a short session in which they can do some downtime stuff (buy gear, work to earn some extra money, get a little bit of EXP, ect.) if the last session ened in a place where this is applicable. Obviously they can't do this in the middle of a dungeon.

After the short session, I'll usually put off running the campaign and just try again next week. You can run a game missing one player, but running it missing two or more makes things a mess as far as keeping everyone on the same page.

can you run Rise of Tiamat without doing Hoard of the Dragon Queen first? what drawbacks are there to doing it this way?

I bought Rise of Tiamat for a friend without knowing it was basically a direct sequel to HotDQ, and i'm wondering if i have to buy that one too now.

I never did like the look of any of the metallic dragons. Shame too because otherwise copper dragons are best boys.

It's probably not the best idea, but you could probably pull it off with a bit of effort.

The players miss out on a lot of setup, and it can seem like this massive dragon threat just came out of nowhere.

However, the biggest problem is that neither of the adventures are particularly good. This can be fixed, but running the adventure as written is the most rickety railroad ever built.
