Hey /tg
About to start a new D&D campaign with some friends, and I want to play a dwarf monk, kind of drunken master style. Probably been done to death but I like the concept. Is there anything I can do to spice up the character instead of being just a generic "drunk hairy guy pummeling things to death"?
My only shameless self bump.
>>50906283
>When sober, the dwarf is boisterous and loud.
>When drunk, the dwarf quiet and contemplative.
>When sober, the dwarf fights like an undisciplined bar brawler.
>When drunk, the dwarf fights like a tiger in dwarf's flesh. Quick, graceful, and deadly.
>When sober, the dwarf speaks with a thick Scottish/Russian/German/whatever wacky accent you want to use.
>When drunk, the dwarf uses a posh English accent.
>>50906283
Drop the "pummeling things to death" part. You won't be doing much of that as a Monk.
Why would anyone worship Asmodeus when it's obvious he doesn't care about you and you'll end up as a demon's plaything or it's dinner if you're lucky.
>>50904179
If the afterlife sucks hard, might as well live it up in the first life.
>>50904179
One of my D&D players is a Tiefling Paladin of Asmodeus and she thinks he is great. They have a weird relationship somewhere between favourite grandchild and obviously just another pawn in his Machiavellian masterplan. It is funny that their relationship is so amicable because a lot of the other PCs have rather more complex relationships with their patrons.
>>50904179
>demon's
Asmodeus is not a demon, you illiterate fucking faggot. He is a devil and he will keep to his word.
All you need to do with Asmodeus is get him to make a deal with you that is favorable to you and keep your end of the bargain. He's guaranteed to do the same. This is very hard but technically possible.
Inspired by, of all things, an old episode of Ask A Ninja, I'm making a magic item.

Current theme: ranger and barbarian girls, or just request what you want
Why the fuck are there so many? And more importantly, why do DMs keep inviting them? Don't get me wrong, every game I've seen them in looks like a trainwreck but who is stupid enough to let these people in their game? It's like begging for it to be ruined before it even starts.

Let's play a fun little game /tg/. Use Gatherer's random card feature until you get a creature card. That creature is now real and absolutely loyal to you as a companion/friend/pet no matter it's color identity or canon personality. If the card represents a female in any way, it instead devotes itself to killing you. Sorry degenerates.
Does your life improve? Or is it hindered?

please guys, if you dont want to finish like this guys, read the warscroll before posting.
It's episode 97, and Orruk guy still never use any kind of ruler to move his unit, they are using 1-off ability every turn, forgetting about leader having more attacks, cheating by giving Character magical weapons, do not deploy correctly...
Its like they never opened any of the books or read their warscrolls.

So, I'm playing a 3.5 campaign with a bunch of rather new players, and a new GM who isn't very familiar with the game. I'm familiar with it, and there's another player who serves as the 'assistant GM', to help the real GM run the game. But here's a rules issue that we stumbled over, so I wanted to talk with /tg/ to see what you guys think about it.
Wandering around a forest. Bunch of characters- less than half are little hirelings/cohorts/whatevers. We stumble across a pretty simple encounter- Crazy druid, humanoid bears with weapons and barbarian levels, that kind of thing. We fight a little bit, and then the 'assistant GM' comes up with a brilliant plan, which he passes a note to one of the newer players, a sorceress. She nods. Then the Ass.GM runs into the center of the bears, uses a 'Kiai Smite' ability that samurai get (which TOTALLY acts as a 'taunt' to call all the monsters to attack him, rather than do anything silly like boost his attack rolls. Don't ask.) and then signals the sorceress.
The sorceress borrows my wizard's metamagic chaining rod, and decides to chain fireball. It's fully impossible because of the fact that chain needs a target, and I say so. The 'assistant GM' claims that it's totally possible, you just need to select one of the enemies as a 'single target' (for a 20-foot spread).
Shit's impossible to actually do, and this assistant GM- the other experienced player- has been pulling this kind of shit the entire game. Claiming that the rules are a certain way when they aren't, or whining when we decide to make range increments act the way the rules state because 'why bring up shit that we haven't ever used before'.
So yeah. What do I do? And what should I recommend the GM do?
>>50907688
Damn, on my phone so I can't reply with /tg/custserve.jpg.
Have you cosidered not playing D&D? Or not playing D&D with people that blatently ignore the rules? Or playing 4e were the rules are even harder to fudge?
>>50908119
I considered it, and tried talking the GM into trying something else (I recommended Savage Worlds and then 5e), but they had decided not to.Long story short, I'm the GM's friend from years back, and they asked me to come help with things. But it's hard to tell them 'oh, just kick the Assistant guy out' because I don't want to be the kind of asshole that causes group drama.
I've been gaming since 1989 as a GM and player. Truly, I do not understand the very concept of an assistant GM. It seems a unnecessary and superflous position. I've never seen it in action nor heard of it being done IRL.

So I bought some Dark Eldar kabalites about a year ago but never did anything with them. My mate now runs the local GW so I decided to pop in and get started again since he's a cool dude and already gave me some wyches on the house. I know almost jack shit about 40k, I mostly buy models to paint. I did a lot of WWII models but I thought it'd be fun to play with some 40k shit. Advice on Dark Eldar? I hear they're pretty shit and hard to play, but hard to play sounds funner than an easy army.
>>50904467
check the 40 general
>>50904467
Current wisdom is about playing a "gunboat" style army with either lots of Venoms or squads of Kabalites skimming around shooting out of Raiders. Reavers and Razorwing Fighters are pretty solid too. They're a hard army to use but I don't think their hopeless if you learn to play them well. Wyches are unfortunately very weak right now though. The Overwatch rule and the general bias toward shooting in the game is very unfriendly to a T3 assault unit with no armor save.
>>50904467
i play dark eldar
they arnt shit, but they are hard to play
you are going to need basically everyone to be on raiders and venoms, you are going to want to bring lances for vehicles and use massed kabalites for anti infantry
if you are going to fight marines often consider investing in incubi, they are pretty good and they have fuck huge swords.
congrats on buying the best faction.
Every tabletop RPG system I have played (which is not many, I'll admit) have a very distinct method for handling combat versus other actions which tend to be solved with a single roll.
Are there any good systems that unify combat with the rest of the game? Gracefully? I can understand the purpose of dwelling a lot more on combat, because it is like a gold mine for dramatic moments, tactical choices, and easily gamified, with both sides attempting to achieve conflicting goals in a relatively straightforward manner.
I'm just curious what other options exist. More out of curiosity than feeling like combat getting extra focus is bad.
I suppose what I am looking for are systems that not only unifies combat with other skill checks, but also expands normal skill checks beyond Roll + Bonus v Target.
>>50903913
Blades in the Dark defines all actions under 16 "skills". You describe what you wanna do, and depending on how, a stat is chosen to roll.
The meat of resolution is based on the GM defining position (how dicey the situation is) and effect (how much damage/influence you have)
>>50905900
Seems pretty straightforward. Also it has an interesting premise. I'll check it out. Thanks!
>>50903913
Dogs in the Vineyard uses the same dramatic system if your character is trying to fight the demons trying to tell him to keep drinking, if there is a public execution, or if there is a lengthy firefight inside a mining operation hiding a brothel as a part of their general store.
