So /tg/, how would you go about making a character that is devoted to something so much is causes them to metaphorically "fall" -- be it morally, breaking their codes/beliefs, or becoming forsaken/shunned by their peers/people or anything similar?

What class/archetype/system do you think this would work best with? It's cliche, but I honestly believe that choosing a Paladin is a great precusor to this, a person who has become to enthralled/devoted to something that they are willing to go against every code they have in order to ensure it remains.

>Paladin has become a swornsword or bodyguard to a person of extreme importance within his order/kingdom
>Said person is politically stigmatized due to circumstances in or out of their control, be it that they're royalty but their legitimacy of their birth or bloodline is called in question, or they could simply be cursed, either a vampire or undead, to which the peoples of the kingdom actively riot/revolt against them
>Paladin has known this person for most of their life as they were raised, a sentinel at their side, never wavering
>Eventually Paladin is exiled by his order/god for continuing to protect this impure/corrupt person
>This person's position/life is threatened by an organisation and the Paladin proceeds to kill most, if not all of them (could be a rival royal family or some political/religious sect of extreme importance to the kingdom)
>This person did not order their deaths, yet is unaware that their protector did it for their own sales (could be morally ambiguous as to how necessary/"right" of an act it was to do to begin with)
>When discovered, the Paladin takes full blame, and is fully exiled/or imprisoned for their crimes

How would you go about fleshing out this idea or implenting it into a game/session? I think the core concept of is really, really cool and should be done more

Elegen/tg/entlemen I call upon you! Help me create a new Table Top RPG system.

Something that only uses 1 - 2 different kinds of dice, and is simple enough create characters and play within 2 hours (with new players).

I came up with an idea that I call "stretched d3" where you roll a d6, half the number, then round down (with a minimum of 1), giving you results of: 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3. I want to incorporate this somehow.

Why would a combat ship not be protected against EMP? It's not magic, you know. You can harden systems quite easily.

Alright this is a crazy idea but I at least want to hear your opinions. Invite your players as normal to start up a new game, explain the basic premise of the story and world and let them make their characters. After your players have finished then make them give their character sheets to the person to the right of them (if passed to you, pass it to the next player). The players will then play that characters they have been given.

There are actually a couple of games which fold an element like this into their mechanics.

Better Angels is a rather funny game where the PC's are quite ordinary, decent people possessed by demons who demand to be satisfied by acts of villainy, but offer power... So of course, the best way to satisfy the demons without hurting any body is by committing acts of over the top, impractical supervillainy.

The interesting mechanic is that each player plays a demon in someone else's head. Each player makes the first half of their character, the human side, then passes their sheet to another member of the group who takes over creating their demon, which defines some more of their supernatural and wicked capabilities. In play, each player is playing both their character And the devil on the shoulder for that player. It's a little hard to do in practice, but it's rather fun once you get going.

Unless you're going to try some REALLY weird stuff, you're still playing a turn-based game. That said, you can definitely try to streamline things and put an emphasis on quick combat with lots of planning and building between combats?

It will probably bog down into action economy abuse and doing the same couple maneuvers for max efficiency unless you somehow make SSStylishness a mechanic. See Shadowrun.

I actually really liked the way Torchlight 1 did this, the dungeon side anyway. As you got deeper and deeper you found even older and stranger sites, completely changing up the aesthetic and building a story of the successive generations of building on the same site.

On the town side, I'd have it react to this. Initial wealth from the first successful dungeon delves making it larger and more prosperous, unique magical items or conveniences coming into common use as more secrets are unearthed from below, the people, culture, architecture and such all influenced by what you discover on your journeys into the deep.

what video games do you like to play? What makes a game good in the eyes of /tg/?

In my mind, there's a pretty sizeable gap between video-game-the-average-/tg/-poster-would-like and just regular sci-fi/fantasy games. Can't put my finger on it though. Not sure if it's crunchier mechanics, or more focus on story, but there are some games that feel distinctly /tg/ to me, and some that definitely don't, regardless of setting.

What are some games you'd recommend to fellow /tg/ posters?

You might want to be specific and mention which edition or if you're point buying or rolling for stats.

Tip: Fighters make better archers. If you're looking for an archer with magic forest powers then pick ranger. Warning, many here would complain ranger sucks and is broken. My advice is pick what you like and have fun. You can multiclass a fighter and ranger down the road. If you do always start off as a fighter.
