Most importantly of all - and by this I mean that if you ignore the rest of my post then please, PLEASE at least listen to this - you DO NOT buy entire armies at a time. There are so many reasons I could throw out for this, but the most pressing one is exactly this. Having that much shit to paint all at once is boring, you will lose the will to do it, and you will start to cast your gaze elsewhere as you lose focus. Slow down on your fucking purchases my man.

You have to choose between the lance or the jezzail, but you've read it correctly, you can have a serpenta in addition

If a model "takes" a weapon or piece of wargear, it just adds that wargear to its list of shit. It doesn't swap anything out, so yes, your Dragoon gets a gun and the lance or two guns.

It's an important distinction to make, most notably with Assault Marines. Loyalists exchange their CCW for the special, but traitor Raptors just TAKE the special weapon, meaning they keep their pistol and sword and thus get bonus attacks in combat.

It's just not as good. Single-shot weapons fall behind in today's meta unless they're S:D or a massive fucking blast weapon, or cheap.

Besides the fact that the railgun you know is now exclusive to the Hammerhead, which modern Tau players never use because it isn't a giant retard suit. Broadsides' guns are now S8, not that you ever see them because they take missiles for 4 S7 AP4 shots instead.

Tau's answers to AV14 generally come in the form of D missiles from the Stormsurge, the Riptide (in a pinch) and melta suits. At least, it did, before the Y'vahra came out. Now they get a Haywire gun, too.

Why are 40k players so booty blasted by AOS?

I recently played an Ork guy in a tournament and killed his Gorkanaut turn 1 containing his Warboss.

When I shot that unit and he did Look Out, Sir!s, he didn't know that Independent Characters make those saves on a 2+ rather than a 4+, which I reminded him of. His guys nearly tabled me because they now managed to get into melee with me and not lose their boss by turn 3.

I shifted the colors on the lava underneath one step to the red, though. Red->Orange->Yellow.

I'm not sure if my Abaddon Black layer was too thick, or if my Martian Ironearth layer was too thin, but mine aren't cracking nearly as uniformly as his example base. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I thought his looked a little too unstable for a bunch of marines to walking on, but I will have to find some way to add some texture to the flat areas.

Lads, help me. I'm getting army ADD again, even though I swore to stick to a single faction each for 30k and 40k. I just want to field one painted medium sized army at some point before I die.

I'm losing hope in orks, partly because of how many models I need for even a small army, and partly because of how shit they are. Now I'm thinking of starting the noble Imperial Guard, because they seem a little better and I can get away with less models by using tanks and eventually Knight allies. Do I give in or do I stand firm in my commitment to Orks?

And the worst part is I've never played a single game irl

we have had semiregular edition updates before
7th is 3 years old by now, but the starterbox is the same as 6th which means the sprues are 5years old, i.e. well in the replacement soon cycle, based on past editions.

There has not been any update of any codex for quite some time, which leads some to believe it will be bigger.

The Gathering Storm books are out, and earlier rumors said they lead to the new edition, kinda like warhammer end times lead to AoS

How the fuck do I get a bunch of cheap Black Templar Initiates kitted out with melee weapons without spending the full 66€ on an Assault Squad?

Are they? MoT cannot buff you farther than 3++ but there's nothing that states the detachment buff can't take you to 2++. And yeah I know, used one last game. Forgot to use the free beam attack but he held his own even without a melee weapon, slapped the shit out of some Templars.

At 2K my lists has 19 WCs and 5 main psykers, all ML3 so I'm pretty solid in that area, I got a ton of punch. I don't want to field daemons, I'm a fan of the egyptian schtick not the mutation daemon one.

One thing though.. I love Magnus and he's cool n all but am I wrong to think the Change discipline is a bit shit? I mean besides the big D. Summoning is alright if you're using daemons which I won't but the rest is just random strength bullshit that might give your enemy FnP. I'd probably never touch it past the D power and use Tzeentch entirely.

Change is decent. 4d6 S5 shoots is really good, Bolt of Change(which is also 24", more than other beams) and Gateway kill marines on 2s on roll of a 2 and summoning Chariot is essentially Torrent flamer.

Don't forget that in good number of situations Gaze of Magnus doesn't do a lot more than other beams, so don't just waste WC on it because it looks cool.

Mark of Tzeentch cannot boost you beyond 3++, so, as soon as you would go beyond 3++, the Mark of Tzeentch will "turn off." It is still possible to get down to a 2++ without it, but it's reliant on getting the right combination of powers. Empyric Shield (the 3++ self Blessing from Ectomancy) is automatically a 2++ for a TS caster, and any of the 4++ invuln granting spells can be combined with Sanctuary to pump you up to 2++.

Between Change and Tzeentch, Magnus has quite a few good witchfire powers. Two beams, the variable strength blast, the mutating focussed witchfire, Treason of Tzeentch (situationally), the D-single shot, and his D-beam.

Eh, in my meta it's good. It's a superelite army and I hold my own against Castellans and hundreds of extra points. I'm not the best player around but it's a nice solid list.

It's going well but slowly. I'm still fairly new to this, started playing last August, and I'm a good chunk of the way through a War Convocation. I have the 6 Kataphrons, the 10 Sicarians, two Dragoons (one of which has a few bent parts that need amputating or replacing), some Inquisition Acolytes and a Chimera to paint, and a Knight to magnetise and assemble. Going for boring Mars scheme because I figured it would be best for a newbie, it's fun but I'm busy and don't have much painting or gaming time. I prefer building and converting to painting, I've found.

Thing is, I keep having new ideas for cool shit to convert and stuff, so I've stuck a ban on building new things till the Convocation is done. Then it's converted Magos Biologis time.

I essentially use him as a flier. His statline is geared towards melee but my meta doesn't have that many flyers or AA so he's generally a safe bet. The range, line of sight and vantage point makes him an incredibly valueable unit in my list.

I've heard someone at my store say that in the UK this setting/hobby is considered a thing for younger audiences but due to cultural differences 40k is very mature in the U.S

Can any britbongs attest to this? I don't understand how a child could possibly be into Warhammer. When I think of a kid's hobby shit like Minecraft and random Youtube videos pop into my mind, especially since 40k is the origin of the term "grimdark" and I don't think a parent would want their offspring getting into that stuff at such an age.

To everyone else reading, how is the cultural appeal for 40k in your country?
