How can society even function when you have things like wizards?
110 posts and 18 images submitted.
>>
Step 1. Don't play D&D where sufficiently leveled wizards can kill gods and wipe out entire countries within a month.
Step 2. Make magic users rare. Spell tomes are closely guarded and valued instead of bargain bin crap at magical Walmart.
>>
>>52047502
You should look into the Tippyverse setting. Basically a logical result of standard D&D rules, including, naturally, Wizards ruling the world.
>>
Lazy solution: They are so autistic that they don't bother with things that would have any effect on society. Basically never stepping outside of their towers.

Why so few love for axes in general /tg/?

Everyone loves swords and maces and staffs and sabres and what have you.

But why so much hatred for axes? I mean, the thing is still used for combat purposes by actual soldiers to this day, after centuries of existance.

So why so much hatred for the thing in fantasy settings and in this board in general?

I've never seen any actual hatred directed towards axes.

Personally I like them. But swords are cooler.

> So why so much hatred for the thing in fantasy settings and in this board in general?

It's poorly portrayed in media/film. Frankly an axe looks badass, but a shiny sword has more "bling", and it is always depicted as the traditional weapon of the classical knight/warrior, while usually axes are portrayed as crude, and they are usually depicted as barbaric weaponry. That, and media usually likes to make axes look fucking ridiculously oversized

Truth be told, I'm one of the few that would pick an axe over a sword everyday. It's lightweight, easy to carry and is basically a jack of all trades, you can use it for more than just hacking someone's shoulder off, and you can also throw it if you train with it (just hope you don't miss because now you basically gave your target an axe to kill you with).

And it is also devastating in combat since most of it's weight is concentrated on the bladed part.

People on this board and that autist Skallagrim argue that axes are hard to use and are inferior due to reach and weight. But those retards are picturing woodsman's axes or similar axes designed for felling trees or cutting wood. Tomahawks or Dane-axes where the favorite weaponry of many peoples all around history, even in favor of swords and other weaponry. Heck, even pole-arms have axe heads for chopping motherfuckers up.

Pratically, they are cheap and easy to use, while swords, maces, spears and etc where usually weapons of royalty (because they are expensive) or required some form of training.

But answering your main question:

> Why so few love for axes in general /tg/?

Neckbeards can't say they can cut through tanks with a tomahawk.
>>
>>52046542
Everytime I post an axe in a weapons and armor thread I get called a peasant. Usually by a bunch of people (or the same fucker samefagging)

Last time on Song of Swords:
They forgot to edition it, the fools.

The KS link & Opaque's website

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. Kickstarter is happening NOW we are kicking ass baby!

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

MEGA folder containing current version of the game and all supplementary materials.
Note that the latest version of the game is v1.9.9 but with additional supplements. It's NOT what's currently on Opaque's website, because Jimmy is Jimmy.

In all honesty how will Guilliman fix the Imperium all by himself?

Yes, he's a Primarch, is a specialist in Empire building, has great tactical and strategic capabilities, and isn't a pushover in CQC (though some Primarchs are better than him in CQC). Yet he's alone. He an he alone while the other loyalist Primarchs that are still alive are nowhere to be found (except for Russ who's with the 13th Company).

Reforming a creation of the Emperor that was neglected and badly run for 10K years is one thing, fighting and pulverizing Chaos Terminators is another. But doing both? Can Roboute actually pull that off because even he has limits here. He should focus on slapping common sense into the High Lords and making sure everything is efficiently working, as well as having a efficient logistics system (not to mention reforms that would affect the various Imperial factions in more positive ways). And don't get me started that the High Lords will also probably try and be as obstructive as they can since no way in hell they want to loose power.

Can't wait for the other Primarchs to appear since this would result in Guilliman to focus more on fixing all this bullshit while the likes of Vulkan or Corax go and bolster morale (while Russ simply goes around wrecking shit as always).

What are your thoughts on this development because I cannot see any of this happening without help for Guilliman.

No, the High Lords outrank him.
>>

The other Primarchs are just shit.
Guilliman is the only one who is actually needed to get the Imperium back on it's feet.
The other's are just beatsticks and could be replaced by Imperial Knights with their faces painted on the front.
>>
>>52030669
>how will Guilliman fix the Imperium all by himself?

Nobody thinks or claims he will. What he can do is take command of the Imperium's armies and orchestrate a more coherent defense against Abaddon's forces, re-establishing 40k's eternal stalemate despite the recent ramping up of the stakes.

How common would flat Earth beliefe be in a medieval fantasy setting?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>52077745
Depends on how much traveling people do.

I mean, irl people know the Earth is round.
>>
>>52077745
I would say in general, it would be the only belief in earth. Just look at how long it took for the world to consider Galileos studies.
On a deeper level though it would depend on the nation's of your setting. If a nation values astronomy and the study of stars, there could possibly be a split in those who believe in a spherical earth and those that believe in a flat one.

I would say that those who live mainland within great cities and those just preoccupied with surviving in general would unanimously accept the flat earth. To that contrary could be those who built their culture around navigation at sea and those who live at elevations might be able to distinguish the curvature of the earth.
>>
>>52077877
>Just look at how long it took for the world to consider Galileos studies.

You do realize ancient Greeks had already done the math to know the world was round right? That the entire world isn't medieval Italy right?

Yes. I built an Orkz deck.

It's explosive, unpredictable, loses a lot, and is goofy as shit.
>>
I built Numot America Matters, it was boardwipes, kill spells, and land destruction. It was actually pretty good, since it's so easy to grab Sunforger (and by extension, Faith's Reward).

And funnily enough, I got btfo just as badly sometimes as I btfo of others. My roommate was playing Reveillark/Karmic Guide and had an altar of dementia out, and I was out of removal targets with sunforger. and I only had Numot. So I proceeded to keep topdecking lands, and got nicked down from 16 fucking life to a loss.

So, after I finished reading up on the general information of the Circle of Magic, I figured that I could get away with creating a custom Ambient Magic. What do you guys think?

> Crafting: A form of Wind Magic, this strange Magic seems to follow the chaotic whims of inspiration and creation. A Craft Mage draws their power not from the final products of the various forms of creation whether it be art or something more practical, but from the process itself, the conceptualization and creation, and it is this magic that a Craft Mage could use to fake the gifts that other more specialized Ambient Mages have received, and only when they channel their magic through a tool associated with that craft that they themselves designed and built, this lasts only as long as they can keep channeling their magic. Things get strange however, when they channel more than one of these Craft Magics, for one thing, they could treat the raw materials of one craft as they were the raw materials of another (carving metal like wood) or combine the crafts to get a completely new result (cooking and painting to get an edible portrait).

Also, link for comparison's sake: http://tamorapierce.wikia.com/wiki/Ambient_magic

Posting my campaign so far from last thread. Looking for opinions and if it's an okay thing to roll with.

Alright

The campaign just started, my players are now heading towards a city that will act as a sort of "hub." They found out from the first town they were in, about the local Lord's daughter who is having relations with a member of someone's court. That person from someone's court is appealing to the daughter with gems, so that she could get her father to do what he says.

The father/local lord found out about this, and is outraged by it. Demanding that they withdraw troops from the hub city, as that was one of the things that he was convinced to be doing.

The players are entering into a "lower quarter", an area for visitors to do their business and leave. I'm thinking about expanding on this a bit to have it be a slight more political or have something underlying beneath the surface, but the main thing(s), I want to do is to have someone feigning an excavation team, who's "hiring" freelancers to go out and map more of the western nation.

Another one, to appeal to engage the cleric, is how one of the places of worship is being controlled by a local gang.

Not OP, but PbTA is as much as a GMing style as it as a ruleset and naturally the two intertwine. So playing something "for the system" would actually sense here.

I don't like post apocalyptic stuff at all and I liked playing Apocyplse World.

Though yeah, it DOES make more sense to choose a PbtA game in a genre/flavor of you choice.
