Githzerai and Githyanki are two of D&D's oldest planar humanoid races. And they've got a pretty long tradition of being playable - Githzerai were in the first Planescape boxed set, Githyanki were in the Astral Plane boxed set. Literally every edition up until 5th has made them playable.
But do you think 5e could handle them? I've been trying to work out what they'd look like in 5e myself, and I figured it couldn't hurt to tap into /tg/'s collective wisdom.

I need suggestions/opinions/advice on systems with good large scale battle mechanics for future content for my campaign. I don't plan to have the party fighting alone along a giant front, by this part of the campaign I plan to have them fairly high leveled and renown among the military so they can step back and focus more on a strategic view for this portion of the arc.
I have ideas already for how they will deal with defensive structures but I need to adapt mechanics from another system so that when the hordes attack, I can work through large number fights against their defenses that they will overview be controlling. Its a Sci-fi setting so there are guns and air support and artillery, but no magic. The one system off the top of my head that might be workable would be Only War but I have no knowledge of the system.
Any opinions on what systems I should look into or if I'm better off trying to homebrew my own mechanics for this?
I'll give it a bump for one last chance at life.

Most of the very low-level dungeons sucked, I'm afraid.
B1 In Search Of The Unknown for levels 1-3 is generally safe but uninteresting.
Terrible Trouble At Tragidore is somewhat endurable for levels 5-8, but some of the foes are bullshit.
I've read T1 The Village Of Hommlet for levels 1-8. The town seems really detailed for non-combat things, and the underground levels of the moat house are sensible. But I've never played it. That's the one I'd try, because if the encounters are too much, there are hooks to add other options to allow you to grind up before reentering the dungeon.

Mask had the much better story of the two, hordes was pure battle
I pull things from motb all the time. I really enjoyed the overarching conflict that it had. It actually made the forgotten realms an interesting place to me.
