What is your opinion on players who do not excessively optimize their characters in order to stay within the personality of said character? I am asking this because I'm looking into playing a character whose class people expect a specific set of abilities from.
An example of what I'm talking about would be a Cleric in D&D, people expect them to pick Bless, Bane, Aid and Cure Wounds regardless of their allegiance/religion and personality, and they will dislike you and brand you as 'that guy' if you don't comply with the "meta". (my experience)
I agree that these spells are the most useful and optimal, but they're not always befitting of the cleric's domain.

I think as long as you explain to the other players that your cleric doesn't worship any sort of healing god and therefore isn't going to be using cure spells all day every day, then it's fine. The important part is making it clear beforehand, so the group doesn't hear that you're making a cleric, and build their own characters around the assumption that you'll be healing.

Granted, depending on the edition, you might be able to heal anyway, but for 5e especially it wouldn't be hard to play a War Cleric or something and forgo such things entirely. Why you wouldn't play a Paladin at that point is questionable, but eh.

Last session I turned down powerful items because it was from someone my character hated. I always put what my character would do first and what makes me powerful second.

Is it acceptable that characters on the level of Achilles, Jason, or Perseus. would be capable of defeating a war machine comparable to Armored Core V's ACs or the ADFX-02 Morgan from Ace Combat Zero in single combat?

Is it acceptable that those same ACs would be able to effectively engage monsters of myth like those from the 12 Labors or the Odyssey?

I was watching Armoured Hunter Mellowlink today and that has a guy on foot taking down mechs with his giant antitank rifle - including in melee combat using the hydraulic spike bayonet.

>Venture into with Daretti stax, next to me is a Monogreen ramp Omnath, and in front of us some guy with the new (modified) Emminence Ur-Dragon 5c commander, and his landwhale girlfriend piloting Olivia Voldaren 2.0 (the shit one) in front of me.

>Onmath player quickly sets up his ramp with forest and bop.
>Dragon player sets up a fetch and passes.

you could run Traveller. it handles S.T.A.L.K.E.R. setting pretty well, although anomalies will need special referee handling.

I plan on running a STALER game at some stage - pic related some of the minis I plan to use

Thinking about running a gritty "realistic" supers game. Collateral damage and what not. Any suggested systems? I've been over Aberrant, but I'm not sure how solid the system is.

So, wait a minute. I don't know a lot about the finer points of 40k, but I have a question.

Imagine you're an Imperial Guard commander, or the leader of a squad of Marines, or a Necron commander, or even the leader of another force of Chaos. You're out for military conquest, you're out to destroy your enemies, and presumably you have some kind of plan to do this. This applies to all forces, including to a certain extent orkz, but not Tyranids.

You're relying on this plan to effect change in the universe.

With this in mind... how has Tzeentch not won already?

Give them this magic skeleton key that opens ANY locked door, when a player uses it take them to another room 1 on 1, describe the fucking terrifying experience of being sucked into a shadowfell-like world, alone, with weird noises, they eventually find the exit and get out, but are freaked the fuck out. Now... they have this item, they won't want to use it ever again until it's their absolute last resort. Every time they use it again, make it even creepier until their character just have to make willpower/wisdom saves (whatever system you're using) or their character starts becoming insane

I bring various weaponry and dangerous chemical agents to the table and torture players with them randomly.

Helps to keep them chained up to the table. Really adds to the suspense. Offing one occasionally is another good trick. The best is finding a new player to sit in with the old ones after you've told them that if anyone talks the new guy gets brained.

I always brain the new guy anyway but that little spark of hope is so important to a good, desperate scare.

I heard someone mention this game last week.

I hate M&M.
Aberrant is okay but inflexible and annoyingly tied to it's assumed setting.

Is this game good, or should I say fuck it and just bite the bullet and just buy Champions if I want to run a superhero campaign?

I'm not familiar with it, but MHR with any one of its many fan-made point-buy chargen methods, or literally picking a path down the random roller with GM permission, both work great for running a superhero game.

Icons is pretty good. It's made by the same dude who did M&M, so I'm not sure if it's up your alley.

M&M is a mess in some areas but is all-round the best supers system available; I'd say M&M ties with Wild Talents in the supers gaming realm.

I'm looking at the index, though, and I'm only seeing neophytes being able to take mining lasers. Is it supposed to be a neophyte despite having 3 arms, or am I missing something?

Intet the Dreamer. It's Dragon Tribal, and she's a 6/6 flyer which is big enough that I've won with Commander Damage on Numerous occasions, but she doesn't really do anything for Dragon Tribal besides occasionally casting a big beasty for free.

Still my favorite deck though!
