Incidentally, we're not inviting him back. This shit triggers me hard because Rogues are my favorite class in RPG's. There's so many interesting things you can do with that class, but the rookie mistake is always, ALWAYS to make the psychopath with a bow. Flat out told the guy, "Sorry man, I'm not running an evil game. Watching my players do actively vindictive shit for literally no reason isn't fun to me." He didn't get it.

I have an idea for a campaign where the PCs are basically Police Officers tasked with keeping the city in an unruly city.
How will they take people alive, or deal with rampaging wizards.
Leading to various encounters with reoccurring villians over several months, finally uncovering a criminal network/mastermind behind it all.

How can I encourage my players to actually have conversations in character? The way things are going, because they only have in character discussions when in a crisis, the party simply doesn't seem like they even enjoy each other's company.
We're all friends in real life, so most of our conversations and jokes happen out of character, but that leads to a party without any real bond which is just boring for story telling. Is there something as DM I can do or should I just accept that my party doesn't love roleplaying as much as I do?

Depends on the players. I usually keep a few constant NPCs around, this way they don't have to try and learn new characters and they feel more comfortable just listening in. Eventually, they'll ask each other questions or give suggestions and it snowballs from there.

I want to run a dark sun game, but I'm not sure which edition to run it in, so I figured I'd ask. The way I see it, it's like
2e: pros: I kinda understand 2e, is the original edition
Cons: is from the pre 3e dark ages
3e: pros: I understand 3e really well
Cons: unofficial adaption quality leaves a lot to be desired. Also, 3e is the fucking worst
4e: pros: final fantasy tactics tabletop sounds fun
Cons: I am a theater of the mind kinda guy. 4e is not a theater of the mind kinda game.
5e: pros: all the players I want in know how 5e works
cons: the unofficial adaption's quality is even lower than that of 3e.

Yeah, or just playing 2e works.
Personally I'd go for 2e setting + gurps rules. I'd rather use gurps for dark sun anyways, it has more of a sword n sorcery feel, more easily than even d&d 2e does, which I think works for dark sun.
