Stop there!
¿ Hindenburg ?

Perhaps you could explain what Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg (1847-1934) was uncertain about.

My Calc II syllabus lists "infinite sequences and series" as a topic covered in the course. Does this mean I will learn le -1/12 maymay? Would it be cringeworthy if when the professor write "1+2+3+4+5..." on the board I shout "-1/12!"?

I think that you should probably just accept and embrace that anything you ever do will be cringeworthy, and just go full retard 24/7.
>>
>>8620331
No, you aren't going to see Ramanujan sums in Calc II unless the instructor's a memelord. It'll just diverge to infinity.

I know its a long shot but has anyone ever heard of a clinical investigation/study about clairvoyants or psychics?
I ask because I'm about to do one myself. It was asked of me from a very high ranking official.

I don't know about cloning but I'm pretty sure genetic engineering will be an obligation like vaccines because we are fucking our gene pool too much by keeping everyone alive

if you're cloning them just to be normal people then it's fine

if you're cloning them for slave labor then it's obviously not fine

Hi /sci/,

My sister just called me a homophobe. How can I explain to her that repulsion to alike polarity is perfectly natural, as evidenced in fields such as electricity and magnetism?

you could base your arguments on this genius research

I do believe the best way will be to shut your mouth and never ever use an analogy between scientific theories and everyday world to give some kind of fake authority to your arguments.

both of your lips are the same thing, repulsion of like electromagnetic fields dictate that they should not be closed.

I have a theory about meteorologists:
They should not be allowed to publicly predict when the weather will turn from nice to rain, snow, or some other generally bad state.

The reason is simple, take these four scenarios:

A. If today is a nice day, people will be happy...
1. If the meteorologist says tomorrow will be nice, people will continue to be happy today and they will be happy tomorrow too.
2. If the meteorologist says tomorrow will be bad, people stop being happy today and will be unhappy tomorrow too.

B. If today is a bad day, people are not happy...
1. If the meteorologist says tomorrow will be nice, people will be less unhappy today and they will be happy tomorrow.
2. If the meteorologist says tomorrow will be bad, people will continue to be unhappy today and will be unhappy tomorrow too.

Both of the B scenarios cause no increase in unhappiness. People either get happier, or they stay unhappy.
Of the A scenarios, A-2 causes unhappiness by telling people tomorrow will be bad and ruining their today as well. A-1 allows people to remain happy until tomorrow, when they would be unhappy regardless of whether they were pre-informed or not.

Thus:
A-2 should be illegal. If meteorologists know that tomorrow will be worse than today, they should not be allowed to inflict unhappiness on the population. They however should be permitted to tell people tomorrow will be the same as today (still nice, or still bad) or that tomorrow will be nicer than today.

>human consciousness
Why does it exist? What kind of cruel fucking trick is it? We have enough knowledge to know that free will is mythical, our thoughts are determined by genetics and environment, every thought and every insight we ever have will be based on outside factors. There is no "you" sitting behind it all, "WE" are just a homunculus chained to our mind with no reason for existing. We're on autopilot, we would function in exactly the same way even if consciousness did not exist because it provides nothing more than passive awareness. This is hellish.

If I can graduate 3 semesters early as a math major, would that look good or bad for grad school? Or would it be irrelevant?
26 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>8618099

A math major is bare bones as fuck. Either double major, take a lot of electives (and a few physics classes), and/or try a few graduate courses. Also see if you can set up an undergrad directed reading program where you independently study advanced/nontraditional subjects with the help of a professor or grad student mentoring/supervising you (great for getting recommendation letters).
>>
>>8618324
My (upper level) courses would be Analysis 1&2, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, PDEs, Differential Forms, and Complex Analysis (graduate).
>>
>>8618337

Only one semester of Abstract Algebra and no Topology? Yeah, that's not going to look good for graduate school.

Is numberphile a website? I suppose I can google that, but I am also interested in learning as much as I possiblt can about anything and everything. Just enrolled in my first year of college, (20 years old), I want to be an aerospace engineer or at least have that degree. I'm trying to stary my own business based on whatever my friends and I can come up with while at a 4 year school.

Anyone use Anki to study?
26 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Maybe for Spanish. I don't use flash cards that often otherwise.
Also, Studyblue is best flashcard app.
>>
>>8616774
Ask med students forums and subreddits. Most use Anki.
Usage for math and programming, like Janki method, all boils down to practice problems prompt. Not so exciting. For science, the best approach is still to do as much problems as you can.
>>
I found it a bit better suited to language (used it for Russian with success) than to STEM, but it can be helpful with just about any subject. Speaking as a mathfag, the built-in LaTeX compatibility is particularly useful. Every student should give Anki a shot IMO.

Whenever I perceive someone making a mistake or being proven wrong I get the urge to say something snarky or venomous to them. I struggle to keep my tongue behind my teeth because my rational part of the brain knows that there will be only bad consequences of this - the person will dislike me and it's not worth a 10 second pleasure of silver-tongue play.

Why the fuck is my brain wired for such destructive behavior? Anyone one knows some research behind this?
