How do we overturn thermodynamics so that we can have unlimited sources of energy and continue human existence for eternity?
Find a way to make entropy useful.

Shitposting online isn't going to help, go study thermodynamics and be the change you want to see.
Put a memedrive on a space windmill power turbine and have it rotate fast enough to power itself. Initial start would use solar energy.
Hey freshman in uni here I have to take a 3 quarter physics chain that includes mechanics, electro & magnetism and I forgot the last one.
The teacher is total garbage and is also just said use whatever physics book because it hasn't changed in a long time.
So which is the best one for self learning? One that makes it easy, Uni has made me realize im a brainlet
>>8622945
University Physics with Modern Physics by Young and Freedman and get an old edition.
>>8623022
whats wrong with the newer ones?
>>8623069
They cost 1 metric fuckton
Doing an assignment for an elective chemistry course and I have to write something about a molecule of choice (silicon), any interesting things I should look into apart from the semiconductive property? Anything else it relates to with computer chips?
Cheers

Actually more of an insulator until doped with things like boron/phosphorus/antimony/etc.
Yeah, lots of uses, like in diodes/etc but to be quite honest even in just talking about the many ways of structuring the {p,n}-type crystals you could go on for hours.
Hi /sci/, brainlet coming through
What, exactly, is CRISPR?
I tried reading the wikipedia article, and didn't understand anything.
I keep seeing people talk about it on the internet. What does it mean, and what does it do?
>>8622444
system in the body that can insert pieces of virus infection so that it can help the immune system recognize new infections of virus already encountered which can potentially lead to the Chinese inserting specific DNA sequence into sperm/eggs
>>8622451
Wait, so CRISPR isn't some kind of technology development, and it's a mechanism that's already in your body?
And this mechanism's purpose is to recognize virus "signatures", but we can repurpose it to modify DNA? How does that work?

somebody PLEASE respond
How do I get into Chemistry? Of all the sciences, this one just doesn't click with me. Any good youtube channels you can recommend?
>>8622164
Read the text and do the problems. That's it.

Ask me questions and I'll answer

I'm just so bored with it. As of now, it's pretty much all theoretical and dull lab work. Reading about enthalpy was interesting for about 5 minutes in highschool, but spending three hours in a lab measuring the temperature changes of boiling water cannot be more boring. Personally, I'd love to do something long (maybe even complicated) but rewarding.
I guess I should be asking when labs get more interesting? I'm currently taking general chemistry and plan on taking orgo next year.
If one were to swallow a lethal amount of sodium nitrite (99% pure), let's say six and half grams for someone who weighs around 170lbs, would they feel a burning sensation in their digestive tract? If so, how bad would it be?
>>8622153
Huh. Interesting experiment. Try it and let us know.
Daily reminder of the best way to get your daily serving of Sodium Nitrite. Mmmmm, preserved meat: the gift that keeps on giving.
MAKE NITROETHANE PL0X

so did these two actually make significant contributions to theoretical physics or are they pseuds?
Posting here to fanboy about John Baez, I love how n-s categories capture the intuition behind topological quantum field theories.

As if your simple mind could ever understand.
Do you think we will see the Riemann hypothesis solved before 2100?
Do you even think we can see it solved in our lifetimes?
What's your opinion?
I think it'll get solved before 2050.
I think it can even be done before 2025
>>8617598
I solved that shit in preschool m8.
If Asians are more intelligent on average than whites, how come up until the 20th century they were technologically underdeveloped? Shouldn't they have been on top all along instead of having to catch up?
Most Asian nations are culturally conservative to the point of being a republicans wet dream. Societies that do not encourage innovation will just have people sit in their hands for fear of execution
>>8601101
Adding onto this, Asians were on top for a period
>>8601096
It's almost that intelligence isn't the objective measure of a population
Hey /sci/, what's this orange flame on my town's sky? I have a feeling aliens are related to it.
It's just something to prevent cavities, nothing you need to worry about.
cirrus clouds illuminated by the sun seen through a gap in altocumulus ("mackerel sky") clouds.
next.
>>8622637
Then why is it only one cloud orange while the others clouds are normal? To me it looks like some kind of chemtrail or fuel waste being dumped from an alien spaceship

Be honest /sci/, can a guy with 120 IQ get a STEM degree?
>>8622365
Yes, but he will never shitpost on your level.
I have 99 out of 100 IQ and working toward a master's.
Yes, but only on thursday
hi. im a neet that wants to become self educated.
i want to study computer science but i also think i need some kind of working knowledge of writing prose and also math skill would be nice.
i dont mind enrolling in a local community college but are there any other resources you guys use to study subjects you're interested in?

There'll probably be a maths for computing module on the CS course, or somesuch.
I need some help with my Stats homework, as i am not very good with probability.
if i have several colors of M&M's that total 60 between the various colors, and 4 of them are yellow, what is the probability that i get at least one yellow from randomly selecting 6 M&M's?
If you want help with your homework, go to >>>/hm/
>>8622241
I'm a mars/hm/allow: don't send stupid threads to /hm/. It's already shit as it is without brainlets and their shitty statistic homework

This is a hypergeometric distribution problem, is it not?
If so. N=60 x=1 M=6 n=6. Plug and chug
How in the hell do I git gud at combinatorics? Shit is so unintuitive for me.
stupid American
>>8622111
I'm British, if I were American then I would probably understand combinatorics

If you were American you would probably be fat.
