What a brilliant number.

It happens to be the same number of the souls churning in my belly. Powerful they might be in the world of man but they are mere clay my flesh-entombed prison. Clay for me to mold and shape.

Long have they forgotten their faces, their nature, family and crimes... they continue to churn endlessly.

Alas their time here is over, I could simply release them back where they came from but where is the fun in that? A bore and A mundane way to part with my guests.

No.

They will have to fight for their freedom. It will be truly amusing to witness for me and well....

The true question is: who to aid, all of them are bubbling in my acids...refusing to die.

You, the players, are in control of the great nation of Valornia, a state founded by the Skorupi and Yanma tribes long ago. In this world, Pokemon are the only sentient beings and as such, civilization grows on their backs. These days however, the time of the guilds of yore and small separated towns are long gone, replaced by kingdoms and empires ruled over by a king or queen, casting stability over the land with power, might, religion and politics. One of your main goal is to ensure the continuity of the state, prosperity of its people and the security of its land through those very same measures:

Military might, political savvy, economic power and stability of the nation.

The Counsel State of Valornia has, by this point, through politics and conquest, gained the northern half of Root Island as its own land, which is starting to be called "Ostrov of Srdnatosti" or Isle of Valor by the populace. Your other goal's as of now, however, is to unite the Haven Isles under your banner. First Root Island and eventually, the Haven Island.

Participation is encouraged. Feel free to chime in whenever you want with ideas where the nation should be heading, what should be researched, plans that should be made or whatever little things you would like to see happen.

Recap: Last thread, a pair of soldier, Nina Sarka and Vavrinec Sykora found a large group of cages in a church filled with what may be assumed to be souls, the revolver has been invented, the Nuzleaf try to, and fail to, bring Valornia into their war, and the search for Kyogre has hit a rough patch.

You used to be a simple man, working in a bar as a cook. Your older brother was an individual who you always looked up to. He always knew what to do, he was always calm, and now he disappeared. He wrote you a letter telling you that he had to leave in order to find something very important, and not to worry about him if he didn't return. You couldn't, however, just leave him to die, not after all he'd done for you and the rest of the family. So, acting somewhat on impulse, you made a pact with a fiend to help you rescue your brother. In exchange, the contract signed in blood reads, you must carry out some services for him upon his requests, the details of which remain unspecified, the only limit being that they cannot be directly suicidal.

After you signed the contract, everything went black. You have just woken up in your dingy apartment(inn like setup, this is still a fantasy setting), but it is completely cleared out. All you have is whatever clothing you were wearing at the time, with some spare change still in the pockets, and a mysterious ring of black metal with a gleaming red ruby on it. As you leave the building you recognize your best friend of 5 years on the street, walking, but as you approach him he doesn't seem to recognize you. Conversation confirms this assumption, and he seems to think you're crazy.

The realization suddenly hits you that this fiend has changed your appearance, for reasons you don't understand.

What do you do?

Well, it's happened again. You currently find yourself on a hostile Somnius Consortium ship, in the brig, in hostile space, with a gun pointed at your head, and no weapons. You can't help but lament your poor fortune. After all, this is a rickety old records ship. Why would there be a guard in the brig? Who keeps a prisoner on this ship? Well apparently these pirates do, because there's a girl behind the rusted old bars. Honestly this room is a mess. You raise your arm, bringing your Trinket into view. You evaluate the room. 2 exits, too far to use. Cell on the left. Lockers on the right, freestanding, unstable? Table in the center, obstructing your path to the guard. He's... angry? No. Nervous: he's never fired his gun before. Exposed wiring on the--

"Hey! I asked you a question." The man's shaky voice snaps you out of your reverie.
"Ah... Could you repeat that for me?" You respond, stalling for time.

You need to think of a way out of situation. You focus your mind and begin to slip back into your analysis, when the occupant of the cell catches your eye, stealing your focus. Teenage girl. Age 16. Blonde hair. Sure footed, relaxed: she must be a spacer. Her grip... she wields energy pistols. As your perception focuses more on her, you begin to feel a burning sensation. The more detail you get the worse the burning becomes. Her spirit is practically bursting forth from her. It sears you.

You pull back. She must be a Navigator, spirit based, and experienced at that. Few people have a presence harsh enough to hurt you. Where's her Trinket? Now she's, dancing? No, she's gesturing. You always were terrible at charades.

The guard speaks. "Why are you here? What d'you want from our fleet?"
"What.. do you mean?" You direct the question as much at the girl as the guard, still stalling. What's she trying to get you to do?

The girl exaggerates her movements. She makes a big show of pointing to the guard, then pointing at the floor in front of her. She then acts like she's choking someone.

The guard looks at you, somewhat confused. "You attacked our defenses..." he trails off. "You destroyed a cruiser, right? You match the description. Your armor..."

You return your attention to the girl. Not bothering to puzzle out her meaning, you instead concentrate on your Trinket and reach out directly with your mind to read her intentions. You are prepared for the burning this time and shield yourself from it for just an instant. It is enough.

You sit within the rotting corpse of a tavern somewhere between Tyrosh, Lys, and Myr; in the Disputed Lands of Essos where you make your living. Home to a thousand battles and the site of more death than anyone would care to count, there is seldom a stretch of soil anywhere in these scorched waste that hasn't been soaked in blood at some point. Here you tread upon the bones of Maelys the Monstrous, Aegor Bittersteel, and who knows or cares how many nameless soldiers fighting senseless wars over useless dirt.

Soldiers who, like you, were lured in by the promise of plentiful coin, beautiful whores, and the chance to make a name for themselves. Right now a half dozen of your companions, cutthroats and brigands the lot of them, are rifling through the pockets of the dead men littering the floor of the tavern. As for you, yours is a more sensible task. You've spent the last few minutes sampling the cask of Volantene red you pried from the basement.

A hand grips you by the shoulder as the bulky frame of Sir Desmond, your second in command, slides onto the bench next to you. He's probably sixty pounds fatter than he ought to be and can't climb a flight of stairs without stopping to rest along the way, but the Stranger greets any man who meets him on horseback with a spear or blade.

He sighs wearily as he settles into his seat, the old wood groaning under the burden of his weight. His gravely voice cuts through the sobbing of some fool in the yard outside, begging for his life no doubt. “M'lord, we've rounded up the last of them by the well. I trust we'll be giving them the usual treatment?”

There's not much else for you out there with the soldiers. The strange lady that carried such a bloodthirsty divine presence with her had a point when she said you don't belong here, you're not a soldier and you're not yet officially the leader of the monster brigade. And even if you were, it consists of about one giant spider girl who's been alone in a jungle for all her life and is considerably horny.

It means you have your hands full already but one member isn't very impressive, not when you have at least two hundred royal soldiers ready to fight that need to be supplied and fed already. Besides, being an arachne, Tama eats a lot, so you have better be ready to explain that to the quartermaster when you'll have to. He is right in front of you right now, and was kind enough to give you water even though he had no obligation to, but you still have zero military authority, at least on paper.

That doesn't mean you're a complete stranger, you've been there already and you know Cassilda, and being the striking cambion you are of course people have been busy gossiping about you. Or at least you expect as much, because you're a good enough judge of character to realize when someone looks at you like you're a stranger and when they look at you and recognize someone they heard rumours about.

You can only hope they were good rumours.

“Now don't worry your little horned head about Amanthis”, the quartermaster says while he writes down the count of the water supply for the day, “She's hard to approach but means no harm. By the way you're going to set up camp outside the perimeter, yes?”.

“That's how I understand it, yes”, Cassilda told you as much, at least. She said they were planning to expand the camp and they can't go South because the civilians pretty much clogged that end of Maner and you might as well be the first. Of course you'd feel safer if you had a palisade between you and a jungle full of kobolds and vampires, but beggars can't be choosers.

“If you don't already have a tent there's one or two we can spare. Don't think we have one large enough for your... Eight-legged friend”, there was a moment of hesitation on his part, “You'll have to make do with this for now”.

“I already have one actually”, you note.

“Southside?”.

“Yes”.

He shakes his head, “Take ours, it has the right colours, that'll get you in the right frame of mind. Go fetch your things if you need but I'd rather you use ours to sleep in. Glovine! Carsus!”, he calls, and a pair of soldiers come promptly, “Help this fellow set up the spare tents we have. Oh, and take one of those wooden tubs”, he gives you a sly smile, “So you and your friends can take a bath”.

That's nice on his part, you probably smell really bad and they must have noticed.
