You open your eyes for what seems like the first time.

You are a human male of around 25 years old and you seem to be naked.

You look around but there's not much to see. All around you there is Whiteness except for the golden pearly gate in front of you.

You can't quite see what's behind it except for more Whiteness. You get closer to the gate and start to see intricate carvings of reptiles. The gate seems to be closed.

You're pretty sure that people aren't born at you apparent age but no matter how hard you try you can't even remember if you have a name.

Still, the fact that you even know what a name is means you had had a life before now.

>search the gate for a door knob or a lock

You get the idea to look for some kind of lock or door knob but you don't find any.

you pass your hand through the bars to see if the lock is on the other side of the gate.

There is no lock or door knob here as far as you can tell.

Tell me, why do you need this book? Does it countain a magical spell? Will it lets you learn the arcane powers of cuthulu? Will it teach you how to brew the mystic potion of unicorn farts?

Or do you just not really get what /qst/ is?

You raise your hands, walking down the stairs into the open cove. The place looked relatively intact, even from the inside, save for a few cracks of concrete and a layer of dust on the railing where you put your hand, but for you it still had a certain unsafe quality to it – like it could implode at a sneeze. Still, if it was good enough for Murakumo and Hiei, it was good enough for you to step onto the tiles with no worry – although you do find it a little slippery from all the splashing.

‘Commander.’ They both give salutes – Hiei smirking; Murakumo frowning.

‘Murakumo.’ You shuffle like a crab so as not to slip. ‘Hiei.’

Your eyes fall on Hiei’s weaponry. Aged, used, but radiating a power and authority in shape and form. They train almost unconsciously on to their next target – you – and you find yourself freeze up as you manage to look down the barrel of one of the turrets, freezing as you reach the edge of the tiles, overlooking the cove.

‘Nice cannons.’ You manage.

Hiei flexes a bicep, smirking and kissing it.

‘Ain’t they just?’

‘I meant your gear.’ Your roll your eyes.

‘You agree with her, then?’

It was definitely like Murakumo to zero in on the point.

‘It’s not a knock against you. It’s an address of what the team needs – Hiei’s right in that a spray isn’t going to do much help as a distraction if all you have for a killing move is that one knock left in your knuckles.’ You flex your fingers for emphasis, reminded of the time of your scuffle with the wayward Yakuza gofer – that had not been a pleasant draw, not at all.

She gives you a look between exasperation and puzzlement.

‘I mean, if you have one punch in you after you waste the rest on suppression, you’re going to have to make that blow count.’ You sigh – so much for sage-like wisdom on your part. ‘Trust me when I say you’re going to have to deal with the punishment coming in just as much as you have going out.’

‘You’re an authority on this how?’ Murakumo crosses her arms.

'I’m not saying that what you bring can’t be used, but your techniques… they’re not – I don’t think I can apply synergy to them as much as… well, as much as you want to, actually.’

‘That falls on you, doesn’t it?’

Oi.’

‘It doesn’t matter that you agree or not with me; what matters to me is that whoever I have on that field isn’t going to do something stupid with whatever they have on mind.’

You’re just too used to Nachi to take the bait.

‘You’re saying you don’t trust me out there?’

You let out a sigh – you remember you are her superior.

‘Murakumo, I don’t want you to take a course of action that I’m not sure you’re going to be able to follow-through.’ You say seriously – without vendetta, but with authority. ‘The way you’re practicing… I overheard, sorry, but – the way you’re doing this it feels like you’re going out there with the expectation that you’re going to be all alone.’

‘It’s just the gear.’ She says quickly. ‘I can do better with a better loadout – Shigure getting all the…’

She stops herself, rolling a shoulder.

‘Is this what this is about?’ It dawns on you. ‘You think I’m rewarding Shigure for doing what she did?’

‘You said it.’ She turns a little red. ‘Not me.’

‘Murakumo, you do know I have a system, right?’ You chuckle.

‘And what system would that be?’ Hiei, ever the busybody, puts her hands on her hips, grinning.

You, the Commander, look past the computer screen and straight at their audience of readers and Questers, motioning for the those who aren’t you at this particular moment to click the links at the top to find the set of rules. However, upon finding that no such links exist, you looks to Murakumo and Hiei, who both shrug and mouth profanities that have everything to do with the one who runs the Quest – namely, the moron who fancies himself a competent runner.

‘Well, the QM runs a vote and waits for a significant portion of them to get back to him before I make a decision on the final loadout after the Mission Rewards. That simple.’

‘Doesn’t that take time?’ Hiei sighs, looking right at the audience of Questers, wondering just why they would even bother with this kind of slack. ‘Shouldn’t he just run with what he has?’

‘It gives him a reason to slack off.’ Murakumo says knowingly, looking at the lazy QM, who in turn, gives her a rude gesture, the ungrateful witch. ‘He actually went out to play basketball last night and forgot to post, can you believe that?’

‘Lazy ass.’

‘Tell me about it.’ You, as the Commander, nod at the files again. 'A thousand things to do and he just pushes them aside.'

‘That’s just life, I think.’ Hiei nods sagely.

You turn back to Murakumo with a reassuring look.

‘Murakumo… I’m giving Shigure the upgrade because I think that she can make the most of it with what we have right now. Not because I think she deserves it more than you.’

Murakumo struggles... before conceding.

‘All right, I’ll go with your decision.’ She smirks. ‘But, seeing as this is about teamwork… why don’t you bring the rest of the Division into the fold. See how we can get things done as a team?’

Roll by using 1d50. The person with the highest roll decides the choice. Ask any questions, like about the world, the spells you have, et cetera and I'll answer whatever I can.

-----

You and Thad are both apprentices of the immortal witch, Aegwynn, known to the commoners as the Lady of the Forest. Orphaned at a young age, you had to survive alone until Aegwynn took you in. For eight years, you learned magic under her tutorship. Now, at fifteen, you are ready to become a fully fledged witch.

Aegwynn leads both of you to Ostwick, a ruined town that had been raised and razed by bandits many decades ago, however the spirits of its inhabitants still remain. Today, you are to bind one of these spirits and make them into your familiar. You arrive at the town's edges, seeing the decrepit buildings that have been overtaken by the land. The only living things you see are animals that have called Ostwick their home, but as you continue to travel deeper into the decrepit place, you begin to see spirits -- they emerge from their haunts to watch you.

Upon arriving at Ostwick's center, Aegwynn turns to you and Thad. "We will begin with..." oh, that's right, what's your name?

Zero Dark Harambe
-------------------
You peer out from the passenger-seat window of the white transport van and take in the sights of early-morning Cincinnati, the quiet streets thankfully empty of civilians and vehicles alike. The van hits a pothole and dives, requiring every member of your squad to actively keep their gear and heads in place in order to avoid a collision. You look at your team-mates, and find that in their own way everybody is busy making peace with themselves in their minds in preparation for the blood-letting looming ahead. Some have their gloved hands together in prayer or around a necklace or other object while others fiddle with their fingers absent-mindedly, lost in thought. You check your gear one more time making absolutely sure everything is not only counted accurately, but also in the right spot for easy access.

Helmet. Check.
Kevlar. Check.
M4A4. Check.
M9. Check.
Frag and Flash grenade. Check.
Knife. Check.
Four reloads. Check.

You get out of your seat and make your way to the driver, catching his attention with a rapt tap on the shoulder that earns you his temporary attention. He diverts his right hand and puts up two fingers, and satisfied, you carefully maneuver back to your seat. Two minutes left until the United States finally gets it's long-awaited revenge on those reviled terrorists that wounded it all those years ago and the twisted engineer of that attack himself. Two minutes left until ten years of intelligence work and political dicing by the spooks and diplomats with strict orders coming from the top can come to fruition. You allow yourself a predatory grin, hidden behind your black balaclava and similarly dark helmet. The Hunt is finally over.

Osama Bin Harambe. The Gorilla terrorist king himself, leader of Al Gueda and murderer of almost two thousand people by proxy. You remember studying his face on the TV, analyzing every detail of his simian face as his mugshot was constantly broadcast over all the major news stations in the aftermath of the attack. Whatever cosmetic changes he's made and whatever clothing he's wearing today, you'll know it's him.

Deep in thought, you find two minutes have passed in what seemed like an instant. Before you even really know it, the van pulls up to an abandoned looking building and your driver honks his horn to bring everybody to from their thoughts, yours included. Your team-mate by the van doors kicks them open, and everyone files outwards in carefully assigned order with your rifles up and eyes open. Everyone stacks up on the door, and all eyes fall on you on what to do next.

This is a normal creature evolution thread with a bit of a spin. Instead of branching off of one organism, everyone will get their own organism to start with.

So basically, draw a blob like the one I drew here, and add features over time. DO NOT BRANCH OFF FROM ANOTHER PERSON'S ORGANISM. And also, DO NOT USE THE SAME COLOR FOR YOUR ORGANISM.

At the most basic level, the purpose is to collect more nutrients than everyone else, but how you do it is up to you!

I'll start!

You are an immortal, born from a stone washed with the blood of primordial titans and awakened by the wind. The only one of your kind, you have wandered all your life, to far-off lands and back, where you were given the name Meihou. You were never accepted as an equal by the gods of heaven; but now the times are changing: the gods that once ruled the world have gone silent, and the kingdoms of the Earth are in chaos. Power-hungry new gods arise and soul-devouring horrors crawl into our world. It is the dawn of a new age, and you will have to fight to ensure your place in it.

Last thread, we sought out the demigod warlord Grant to be our mentor. He taught us to master the sword, and became the first fellow immortal to ever call us friend and ally. When barbarian tribes came to his borders seeking war, we pledged our aid.

One of the tribal elders has broken away from the enemy confederacy, on the request that we rescue his son. We had intended to infiltrate the enemy camp using magic, but the power of another god interfered. Now, we face the god's high priestess, and are surrounded by enemy warriors on all sides. Though mortals don't normally pose any threat to us one-on-one, they are quite literally in the thousands.

(Continuing from last thread)
The high priestess begins chanting in the language of creation. You fire an arrow into her shoulder, and she pauses briefly, recoiling in pain, before continuing. She holds several glowing white gems up into the air and crushes them.

The eyes of the warriors now glow white, and some of them look directly at you.

You notch another arrow and launch it at the priestess, hitting her in the chest. She clutches at the injury and gasps for air.

With reddened hands, she raises a pair of air gems to the sky, and starts chanting desperately between coughs of blood. A fierce wind begins to blow through the settlement.

Several of the white-eyed nomads charge towards you, jabbing their weapons into your stony skin. You wince as the metal chips into your flesh. There are dozens who will soon be converging to surround you if you don't act quickly.

A group of giant eagles, approaching from the distance, are drawing towards you, called by the priestess during the execution ritual to feast upon the hostage.

The hostage, a young nomad boy, remains chained to a stone altar, in the middle of a holy circle that lies within the enemy god's domain.

[ ] Notch another arrow and finish off the priestess before she completes her ritual

Tear one of the nomad's weapons away from them with our free hand and hurl it into the priestess. I seem to remember some kind of wind ability going off, and I want a heavier projectile that won't get blown off course. A spear would be ideal.

Then tumble into it, grab the boy and start legging it. If the summoned shield and sword persist past her death, grab those as well, maybe we can learn firey magic from them.

The cold lapping of a river current against your cheek finally wakes you out of your deep black slumber.

Above you sunlight shimmers down through a canopy of leaves. Insects whir and chatter around you. You drag your body out of the river and through the muddy riverbank.

This is a forest. You know what a forest is.

You know that.

But you don't know your name. Or how you came to sleep on a riverbank.

Looking down the river you see only clear blue water winding its way to the horizon giving no clue. And you know one more thing.

You are lost.

You shut your eyes and try to think. The darkness you return to is far from restful as you strain to the utmost to remember something, anything.

Your name is Robert Susan.

It's a shit name, I know. And things are about to get even shittier. But first:

You live alone, you dont go to school, you have a dead-end job, and your parents died years back.
Fortunately, they left you with a hefty allowance. So you decided, having no goals, ambitions,
and a lost soul, to rent a little apartment somewhere that may as well be nowhere and kinda become
a NEET for a while. That is, until you realized you were running low on funds and it may be prudent
to start having an income so as to not shrivel and die from starvation. So you got a dead-end job to
keep your ass alive.

You're 20 years old but you look like a freaking chipmunk. You cheeks have a little more meat on them than
should- making you appear more 18 than 20, but your body itself is pretty skinny, undernourished by your diet
of cup noodles, chips, and twinkies.

If that all isn't shitty enough: you're now apart of a zombie apocalypse. BAM! Good luck with your life.

You're an ex-NEET and your goal is to survive.

Here, looking out the window of some punk chick's apartment, your neigbhor, you can see exactly how much your world can change in less than half-a-day.

You see, snow is a beautiful thing. Its clean, a pristine white, with a soft touch and gentle sway. It cloaks all it touches in its beauty. Let it fall long enough and it cloaks everything.
Cloaks the filth, the dirty things in the world. The things you dont want to see. It blankets the world in an illusion. Because when that snow melts, everything returns back to normal.

So what does it mean when all that snow is red?

It means you're fucked. The world is too dirty or too messed up to cover anymore. And now you're stuck to brave this new, very messed up world with three other incompetent young adults: a woman
who tried to kill herself probably not too long ago and two who were unknowingly getting high off their asses and abusing ecstasy through the first wave with their other friend who's now dead.
And now you stand right next to one of them, not knowing if he's been bit or not.

"You three picked a hell of a time to get high...and unfortunately, your friend Jenn wasn't so lucky when the end came. Madeleine and I have barricaded the stairs. Uh...we'll leave you to grieve or
anything...it's a lot of shit to proccess..."

You look to Madeleine and a Mallory that's slowly fading to actual conciousness, as testified by her expression that shows some degree of understanding if not all. Madeleine nods and the two of you leave.
You step out of the apartment and shut the door behind you. You dont have to wait long to begin hearing soft sobbing beyond the door.

"So what now?" she asks.

Note: You can ask me what you have at anytime. Like an inventory, only you wont always have access to it as it only lists what you know (or think) you own.

"We should check the stairway again," you say. She only nods in agreement. But first, that body and your machete. Sanitation is all too important now and you're not going through that shit struggle again.

You retrieve your machete, taking a brief look outside your window. There is nothing worth walking amongst the dead for. You meet up with Madeleine in the stairway, the first flight from the base floor. Your wicked blade gleams in the dim light and for a moment, she looks frightened.

"You have a machete?"

"Sorry, yeah. I went to pick it up before the...wave reached here." A few seconds pass in silence until she finally shrugs.

"It looks alright I guess. I tried listening for any noise outside of the door but I don't hear anything. No groans, no moans, no shuffling."

"And we can't see the lobby without actually opening the door and going with the elevator...should we ask Mallory for some furniture to reinforce the stairway?"

"Nah, I dont think it's neccessary. Not yet at least. But I'm worried about the elevator. It's the only entrance to our floor besides the roof and it's accessible from the lobby."

"Oh, the roof!"

"What?"

"The roof is usually safe in these...situations. It's high from ground and we can get a good scope of the area below and around our building." She shrugs.

"Sure. If it all doesn't work out, I can just try and kill myself again." You stare at her blanky. She pauses for a moment then nudges you, walking past.

"It's a joke. Come on."

The two of you climb the stairs but find that the door to the roof is sealed with a lock. You can always break it with the machete, easy. but what bothers you is the warning sign that the entrance is only to be used in emergencies and will sound an alarm if opened. You suppose the building managers didn't account for a zombie apocalypse when they put a sign up with the words "alarm" and "emergency" in the same sentence.

>Electricity is cut. Maybe the alarm won't sound.
>The alarm shouldn't be loud enough to alarm the dead outside.
>Leave it.
>You don't need to make a decision just yet.

New to this stuff, but mainly doing this for fun. Knowing that, I don't expect it to go on for long. Expect shitty pictures to go along with it.

Dawn turns to dusk, and soon, to night, as the luminescence of the moon beaming down on Gensokyo. The past months has been rather calm and quiet. A certain shrine is alive with chatter, its inhabitants enjoying the cool evening breeze. A shrine maiden watches begrudgingly as her guests take up her space and time, her magician companion joining in on the merriment herself. A few familiars acquaintances come and go as time passes on- yet, two stay for as long as the shrine maiden's patience persists. Constantly in a state of inebriation, the two unwanted oni drink endlessly and romp about through the night.. which oni will you be?

>Be Suika Ibuki, The Free Spirited Oni
>Be Yuugi Hoshiguma, The So-Called Unexplainable Phenomenon

>Continuing the idea from the previous thread, you gain super powers in a setting without them.

Your name is Emily, a 20 year old pizza delivery girl just trying to get by. You've been having a strange week though. After a bout of sickness from stumbling across (and bringing home) some sort of strange glowing rock you found in a ditch when your car skidded off the road, you just got attacked by a loose dog but suffered no injury.

You're not sure what happened but when you got home that evening and slammed the door shut, it smashed the whole thing off the frame. You wonder what's going on, and remember the situation on the news about some other woman getting strange powers a few months back.

Only, that couldn't have happened again, not to you. Right?

Even if you did just get powers, you've got other problems, like working on your guitar chords for your next song. Get out your guitar and practice. It's the only way you're ever going to get out of fuckin' Michigan.

Who cares about superpowers and all of that, you've got a future in mind and powers don't change that!

You sit down to practice with your guitar and blow of some steam after work. Unfortunately a couple strums in and you break all the strings.
