As Sanctus prepares a holy flame attack, suddenly a giant explosion throws both Sanctus and the abomination into the distance. Some of the sharp shrapnel pierces the knight's armor, making him yell in pain as he falls to the ground.

"BROTHER!"

Slowly, as the dust settles, three figures appear at the top of a huge cavern boulder. Sanctus groans in pain as he looks towards the boulder.

The conflict will be dealt in story mode, similar like we fought Gat back in Chapter 2. I want to mix things up from time to time, and switch between systems to make things interesting and fun!

My reasoning for why this is the best option:
It's a commander's job to assess a situation to see how possible victory is, then take the actions necessary to allow for the smallest losses with the highest gains. In this situation, there are 3 Yuni attacking 3 injured men who are fatigued. One of the Yuni obviously has bombs, which he just hit us hard with. They also have the high ground. The only chance is escape. If we can split off from the group then that decreases the chances of them lobbing bombs at the other two. Bombs are area of effect killers. Worst comes to worst, Sanctus can draw their fire and attention while the others escape. It'll cost his life, but it'll save two others.

At the moment, we have no way to combat them effectively though. Ranged combat is near impossible, so right now we're sitting ducks for their bombs and other ranged weapons.

Also, What sort of older brother lets his younger brother die?

Their last conversation, as Sanctus lays there dying, may end up the same as their introductions:

Suddenly a void tentacle hits Sanctus, making him fall to the ground. The knight coughs up blood as he raises his head to view his possible executioner. Out of strength and infected by fatigue, he speaks up.

"You god damn idiot! If we don't stop these abominations, your people will be at risk as well!"

Gat lets out a maniacal laugh.

Gat
"I don't give a shit. All I want is to cut off your head!", he said while lunging towards Sanctus

The knight blocks his attack and kicks him to the floor.

"So, did you have one last go with her, you degenerate?"

"I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU!"

As they continue to fight, Sacratus tries to stop the two fleabags on the other side of the sacred hall.

"You flea infested degenerates! You are endangering the world itself!"

As Sacratus fights off the Yuni brothers, a loud ear piercing tone echoes through the hall. They turn their gaze towards Ikk near the blood gate.

Ikk
"It is... done."

Ikk turns towards his metal friend.

Ikk
"Goodbye.", he said with a warm smile and in a soft tone, blood tears flowing down his face

Suddenly, the flesh heart implodes, creating a huge blood portal that is slowly destroying the floor and walls, endangering the structural integrity of the hall. Everything quakes as Ikk's body slowly melts away and gets sucked into the portal.

Sacratus
"My friend! NO!"

He kicks one of the fleabags into the distance and runs towards Ikk, grabbing his hand. Sacratus looks in horror as his friend's body is slowly falling apart into a mess of guts, gibs and blood.

Sacratus
"No! What is happening?! Please, don't die!", he said with a lump in his throat

Ikk
"Peace... finally I will rest in peace... the goulash was delicious, you are a great cook. Thank you... for being my friend... tell Naa... that I love her..."

The gravitational pull is too strong for Sacratus. He looks in despair as his friend explodes into a red mist, sucked up by the portal. Gat's brother yells to his explosive companion.

Sanctus tries to convince him to escape, but fights alongside him when he eventually tries to kill them.

Sacratus looks in horror as the portal slowly starts to grow and consume all the flesh in the room, destroying the sacred hall. The huge stalactites fall from the ceiling, hitting the floor. The stone spikes break the floor, revealing a humongous abyss beneath their feet. Sanctus throws his brother a rope and instructs him to tie it around himself, so they don't get separated in the cloud made of blood and shadows.

Sacratus
"You... didn't deserve this... you saved us..."

Sacratus gestures a small Solar cross in the air towards the blood portal. Soon after he clenches his fist and runs towards the Yuni brothers in a berserk state. The brothers look at the enraged knight as he runs towards them. One of the brothers lights a small bomb.

Gat's brother 2
"Haha! That rat died! Soon, you will join him as wel..."

Sacratus hits him with a ray of light and grabs the bomb with one hand and the Yuni with the other. He squeezes his neck to make him gag, then shoves the bomb down his throat. With a swift punch to the neck, he makes him swallow the bomb and throws the feline into the distance. Sacratus throws himself onto the other Yuni.

Gat's brother 2
"No... Gat help me! The bomb, it's going to..."

The Yuni's abdomen explodes, guts sliding out of him as he falls to the ground.

Gat's brother 1
"BROTHER! Gat, we need to..."

Suddenly a flesh abomination lunges on both Sacratus and the other Yuni. Sacratus slices the abomination, which in turn screams in pain. The Yuni lunges onto the knight, but Sacratus grabs him and impales him on the teeth of the squealing abomination. The Yuni screams for his brothers as the abomination slowly start to chew him, breaking the bones and tearing the flesh, making the Yuni yell in a blood-curdling scream.

The screams alert Gat, who looks at his mutilated brothers. His rage quickly shifts into sadness as he yells in despair. Gat runs towards Sacratus, trying to kill him. However, a huge stalactite falls near them, caving in the floor beneath their feet. The shadow bandit is thrown to the side. As the dust settles, he notices that one of his brother's is still alive, holding onto the guts that are spilling out of his torso. The Shadow Bandit rushes to his aid.

Gat's brother 2
"Gat... is t-that you... everything... is cold..."

Gat
"Stay with me! Do you hear me?!"

On the other side of the hall, Sanctus pulls onto the rope, saving his brother from falling into the abyss. Sanctus turns around and looks at Gat who's distracted with his dying brother. He charges his hand for a powerful flame attack.

Sanctus' left fist explodes as he fires a huge beam of fire at Gat. The Shadow Bandit is thrown to the side from the sheer force of the blast, set on fire from the infernal attack, screaming in pain. Suddenly a mysterious voice speaks up as a dark portal appears.

Umbra
"You idiot! Can't you do anything right?!"

A void tentacles pulls Gat into the dark portal, which closes shut soon after. Sanctus gazes upon the humongous blood portal.

Sanctus
"May Solaris... have mercy on our souls..."

In a miracle, the blood portal closes shut and graveyard silence envelopes the scene. Sanctus looks at his brother that's dangling in the abyss.

Sanctus
"I guess... we saved the world, huh? This act alone will grant us an early retirement. Finally... some peace."

Silence, then the brothers start to laugh. However, Sanctus' strength start to fade as the fatigue and blood loss from his missing hand claim his body. He slowly slides towards the end of the cliff, but grabs onto the nearby cave vegetation.

Sanctus
"Damn it, I don't... my body... I..."

Suddenly, his brother cuts him off with words that send chills down Sanctus' spine.

Sacratus
"Brother... let me go..."

Sanctus
"What?! Are you crazy?!"

Sacratus
"Sanctus... I've been dragging you down... your whole life. I'm a disgrace to the Solar Cult... I have no direction in my life, I embarrassed you on multiple occasions..."

Sanctus
"What are you saying, you idiot?! You're my brother! I like you for who you are, not what the High Priests say..."

Strength fades from Sanctus as he slowly slides more and more towards the edge of the cliff.

Sacratus
"Sanctus! We'll both die if you don't let go!"

Sanctus
"NO! I WON'T DO IT!"

Sanctus' face goes pale as his brother pulls out his sword.

Sanctus
"No... don't you dare..."

Sacratus slowly pushes his tired arm with all his might and hits the rope, slowly tearing the threads.

Sanctus
"No! Stop it!", he said with a lump in his throat

Sacratus slowly hits the rope again...

"STOP IT, YOU CRAZY SON OF A BITCH!", he yells, tears flowing down his face

[Present time, a few weeks after Xeri left Jack]

Slowly but surely, Umbra's dominion is spread among the people of Casius. After rebuilding the infrastructure, Jack and Velvet used their diplomatic abilities to spread the word of Tenebris through peaceful ways. However, those that showed resistance, were soon crushed by Umbra's iron fist. At first the town's people were reluctant to follow the way of the shadows, but seeing the looming threat of the Deity War, the common folk swore allegiance, fighting for their chance or survival!

In the dead of night, a violent thunderstorm brings some refreshing tranquillity to combat the surprisingly warm weather for this time of year. Jack enters the head quarters building, a mansion built for the Princess of Shadows herself.

Jack Chitin
"Umbra? Velvet? Anybody here?"

Jack looks around and shrugs. He sets forth for the upper floor, where they all usually rest after a hard day of work. Jack opens the door and peeks through it. Nobody there. However, he notices an minty aroma emanating from the room. Upon further inspection, Jack finds a kettle and a two tea cups placed neatly on the table.

Jack Chitin
"Hmm, they're probably here somewhere. I'm sure they won't mind."

Jack pours himself some tea and sits on the luxurious leather couch, slowly sipping his tea. The soothing aroma of mint relaxing the tired champion, as he thinks of the plan for tomorrow. As he's about to doze off, Jack notices some female chatter slowly amping up in volume. The two shadowy girls enter the room.

From the looks of it, Umbra is wearing her satin nightgown, and Velvet, as always, is enveloped in flickering shadows that slowly shifts throughout her body. They don't notice Jack and continue their chat, while they walk towards the couch.

Umbra
"And so I made this little doll! Isn't it cute? I carry it around with me at all tim.."

Umbra freezes in horror as she sees Jack, who probably heard what she just said. Jack greets them with a smug grin as he takes a sip of tea.

Jack Chitin
"Hey, Umbra, what do you got there?", he points at the doll

Umbra bites her lower lip and shifts her gaze around the room, trying to damage control. Velvet blushes and giggles.

Jack chuckles and shakes his head. He looks at Umbra with a warm smile.

Umbra blushes and looks to the ground, letting out a quiet laugh, feeling a mix of embarrassment and satisfaction. After a few laughs, the girls join Jack for some tea.

Jack Chitin
"The capitol of Casius and the nearby smaller villages are under our control. However, we will need to secure the swamps to the west, the catacombs and the hot springs to the east. We will be able to do this in following two weeks or so."

Umbra
"Excellent. Once we do that, the province of Casius will be ours. Then we can plan to venture forth, either to Urno or Adila. Seeing that Urno isn't under the rule of a deity, we should consider that. Adila on the other hand might be under deity rule."

As they finish the tea, Umbra puts down her cup and bites her lower lip. She looks at Jack with a mischievous smile. The naughty Shadow Princess is planning something for the evening, but first she needs to get rid of someone. Jack as always, is oblivious of the context.

Umbra
"Ahem, that would be all, you may leave now Velvet.", she said in a pompous tone

No response.

Umbra
"AHEM... Velvet, would you mind?"

However, Velvet was in her own thoughts. The timid shadow advisor is still holding the little Jack doll, looking at it and slowly caressing the doll's face with her thumb. She puts up a warm smile and lets out a relaxed sigh.

Umbra
"VELVET!"

She notices the angry Umbra and slowly starts dragging herself to her room.

Jack Chitin
"Wait, Umbra! This isn't right, we rarely get to be together like this due to work. Come on, let's hang out together!"

Umbra lets out a annoyed groan.

Umbra
"Ugh... fine."

Jack looks at Velvet and signals her to come join them. Velvet looks at Jack in awe. She slowly walks towards the couch and sits down, blushing a bit.

Jack Chitin
"You guys probably wanted to do something before I interrupted you? Maybe we can do it together!", he said in an enthusiastic way

"We were thinking of watching one of the magic theatre plays..."

"How about the Ascending Shadow Liege? A story about a mysterious hero saving his home town from the forces of evil? The piece was written by a famous Elysian writer by the name of Nalon."

"Sound great, what do you think Velvet?"

Velvet looks at the ground and blushes a bit.

"It's f-fine. The plays can be a b-bit long, I'll r-read my book d-during the dark parts. I'm n-not a big fan of scary s-stuff.", she said while opening her book

Umbra snaps her fingers and the card explodes into flickering shadows. Suddenly a bunch of small shadow puppets appear and they starts building the stage. During the setup, Umbra whispers to Jack.

"Why did you invite her... I was in the mood for something else~", she said while wrapping her arm around Jack

Jack lets out an audible gulp.

"C-Come on Umbra, we can always spend some alone time later. Velvet is part of our team, she's family. We need to support each other.", Jack said with a smile, as he whispers back

Umbra crosses her arms and puffs up her cheeks.

"Haha, don't worry about it. Let's just enjoy the show. We can fool around after it's done~", he said while kissing her forehead

Umbra blushes with a coy smile and hugs Jack tight. Suddenly the play starts and the crew enjoys their time together.

Jack whispers towards Umbra.

Suddenly, the shadow actors undress start a romantic tussle.

Velvet covers her blushing face with her book as she starts to sweat. Jack scratches his head and looks to the ground, clearing his throat a few times. He whispers to Umbra.

Jack Chitin
"Uhm, Umbra... this is a b-bit a-awkward, can we s-skip..."

However, Umbra is enjoying herself, and pays not attention to Jack.

Umbra
"Haha, stupid Shadow Liege, she's only after your wealth! How dumb can you be, haha!", she said with a few snorts, laughing at the scene

Jack looks towards Velvet in confusion. She noticed that Jack looked at her, she yelps in a girly tone and buries her blushing face into her book. Jack shifts his gaze towards the two horny actors and shrugs.


[A few moments, a long philosophical segment about an execution drags on]


Jack yawns, rubbing his face, trying to stay awake. He shifts his gaze towards Velvet, who fell asleep with the book on her face. He looks at Umbra, who's really into the scene.
