“Brothers and sisters of the southern islands, cast off your chains! Resist the northern oppressors!” - Pamphlet, sound on the streets of Haveer. Currently under investigation by the Ministry of Health and Well-Being.

It often rains here, on the southern tip of the Dreyse mainland. Whether through some quirk of the climate or some other reason, the snow that drifts across most of the land here is replaced by heavy raindrops, a thick mire that dampens the spirits and oppresses the mind. Heavy enough to blot out to sun, to shroud the moon and the stars, the rain pours down.

But at least it washes some of the blood off.

Yadhos offered shelter in his cancerous abomination of a dwelling and, too exhausted to face the long march back to Artyom, you were left with little choice other than acceptance. The roof leaks, and the walls let much of the whistling wind through, but it's still better than the alternative. Offered a spot on the floor to sleep in – the same courtesy that Yadhos extended to his own kin – you settle in for a long and uncomfortable night's sleep. Lize fell asleep quickly, although it was restless and disturbed sleep. She struggles, murmurs to herself, and even claws at the air on occasion.

Restless or not, it's sleep – it's more than you get.

Like the ticking of hundreds of clocks, you count the hours pass by listening to the rain pounding at the roof of Yadhos' ramshackle house. Morning comes to the slow sound of the rain easing off, and the rivulets of water seeping through the roof dwindle first to a trickle and then cease completely. Lulled into a more restful sleep by the sound of the rain, and now rouse by the absence, Lize stirs and sits upright. As she's rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Yadhos approaches, a plate of fish – dried, salted and hacked into pieces – in one hand and a battered tin box in the other.

“A fine morning,” he says, by way of greeting, and sits between you with his legs crossed. In the background, signs of life are returning to his kin. A baby starts to wail, but quickly hushes down to a murmur. “You'll be wanting to make tracks, then?”

It sounds, you think, like you're being thrown out. If only your real landlord, back in Thar Dreyse was so polite. Yadhos seems to read your expression, for he shakes his head.

“Don't mean nothing by it, stranger. You're welcome to say as long as you like. At least, so long as you're willing to pull your weight,” he rasps out something that comes close to a laugh, “Don't rightly look like a man who's afraid of a bit of hard work, but I figure you'll have business elsewhere.”

True enough, you tell him, you need to head back to Artyom. It's going to be a long walk.

“Not a walk you'll want to make with wounds like those,” Yadhos leans forwards a little to peer at the gashes on your head and hands, “The smell of them would draw out all kinds of beasts and horrors. Got something you can put on them. Cityfolk might turn their noses up at it, but there's not a thing wrong with folk medicine. You really think I could walk about with the head still on my shoulders if it didn't work worth a damn?”

He may have a point there, you admit, especially with all the blood he lets. Nodding slowly, reluctantly agreeing with him, you watch as he opens the tin case and takes out a smaller jar, one filled with a rust-red paste. With a blunt knife, more of a paddle, he scoops out a slice of the paste.

“It'll burn a little, but it's the good kind of burning,” he assures you, “Burn away anything bad, anything that'll fester and sicken you. Can't promise aught, but it's supposed to speed along the healing as well.” Without wasting any further time, he slaps some of the salve onto the first of your cuts and smears it in. His warning was an accurate one – it burns with a familiar bite, the fire of a wound being sterilised. Ignoring the occasional grunts you let slip, Yadhos works with a quick and competent hand.

He's done this kind of thing before, often enough for it to be routine.

“So that's, like, some kind of herbal tincture, right?” Lize asks as Yadhos turns his attention to her, to the gash left behind her her “offering”. She looks nervous, but not nearly as fearful as she had been during that particular trial.

“Aye, herbal,” Yadhos waits until after he has smeared on a thick layer of the paste, and Lize has finished writhing, before continuing, “But the most of is made from the slugs we get crawling out of the ocean. Fat red things they are, bloated and oily, but properly prepared...”

“Oh gross!” Lize pulls away, first moving to scrub the rust-red paste off her arm and then pausing. To do that, of course, would mean touching it even more. “You put mashed up slugs on your open wounds?”

“Never got an infection,” the sailor boasts, “Not one.”

“I'm gonna take a guess,” Lize mutters, “You don't have, like, League papers for this stuff, right?”

“Never knew I needed them,” Yadhos replies, sounding genuinely bemused.

-

“Well,” Lize remarks a while later, as you're leaving Yadhos' settlement behind, “Slugs and blood sacrifice aside, he seemed nice.”

Culturally degenerate, you reply, but that doesn't make him a bad person. If anything, you have to respect Yadhos – he was a good, honest man, the kind that was willing to help a pair of strangers without asking for payment. If only more of the “civilised” people back in Thar Dreyse could be so virtuous!

“Yeah but, like, capital folk don't rub dead slugs on their skin,” your young companion points out, before pausing, “Though, if you told them it might make them look younger...”

Might be a nice little earner for someone one day, you think aloud, but not you. Too much trouble, too much paperwork. You'll stick to something easier – like killing things.

“Business as usual, right?” Lize forces a small laugh, “Hey, listen, about what happened...”

Humanity has been since the majority of power on Earth. It mattered not how strong Monsters are to humans, their adaptive ability made them survive on practically every habitual continent. As the ages progressed humans accelerated in development from tribalism to modernity, Monsters were simply camp fire stories and fairy tales to humans.

This allowed Monsters to blend in human society when a Grand Yokai developed an illusion form to disguise any Monster into a human. Even with this still, there will incidences in the human world that proved a certain Institution was needed to train the next generation of Monsters.

Thus Yokai Academy was born.

Waking out the door your parents bid you a teary good bye and your two siblings, Matsuo and Eto whine of your departure as well. You consul and hug them both, then you head out. Your absolutely psyched that you get to go to a school with Monsters just like you. Sure it maybe dangerous, but it would be worth it. Hopefully you get to meet some cute girls and find some bros to hang with.

Bag in hand, you whip it over your shoulder and walk towards the Bus Stop. After a few minutes of walking you make it there, promptly sitting in the rickety bench. You being to go into thought.

Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls. But a dark cloud approaches, and times are about to change. A new chapter in the tale of Dark Gate Academy is about to begin.

“Kazuma... it's all a lie.”

Flames surround you, your vision strained and obscured by the sheer heat, as your father stands before you, a desperate and stern expression on his face.

“Dad? What are you-”

Your father holds out his, as a small glowing blue orb floats above his outstretched palm.

“I need you to take this, Kazuma. It's the key, the key to revealing the truth.”

“I don't under-”

“Just take it, Kazuma!” your father screams, as the flames envelop him, and he disappears within the hellish fire.

“Dad... Dad, no! Daaaaaaaaaaaaaad!”

Your eyes shoot open, as you awaken in a cold sweat. You feel your seat beneath you rumble and hear some faint buzzing from the headphones wrapped around your neck as you become re-adjusted to your surroundings. You must have fallen asleep on the train. You clutch your necklace tight in your hand. A blue stone lies at the end of a string. It was given to you by your father, but not nearly in such dire circumstances as your dream depicted. No, it was simply a birthday gift from when you turned seven years old.

You've been travelling for hours now. Your destination? A small hillside town by the name of Dakugeto. A rather unassuming place, the town's one notable aspect is that it plays home to the Dakugeto institute of higher education. More commonly referred to as Dark Gate Academy, it's where you're about to begin your first day of studies as a high school student. It's also where your father worked as a teacher... until he disappeared three years ago.

Dark Gate Academy holds a secret, one that has never been hidden from you. The staff and students of the academy are not normal humans. They are individuals who have innate abilities that simply need to be awakened. And they use those abilities to fight off the dark forces that lie within the school. While this little factoid has been kept hidden from the world at large, it's always been known to you. Your father is Kankuro Arai, a man heralded as the finest combatant that Dark Gate Academy ever saw. There was no demons the stood at the end of his blade and lived. Nothing could stop him... until he vanished. Killed in action, they said. But no body was found. You know better than that. You know that your father couldn't have just been killed within the Darkworld like he was nothing. No... he's still in there. You know it. And now three years later, you'll be attending the very same academy he worked. Soon, you'll be entering the Darkworld yourself... and you're going to find him. You're going to bring him back.

Your name is Kazuma Arai, and this is Day 1 of your quest.

“Another nightmare?” the voice in the seat opposite yours asks.

You turn your head to answer. “Yeah, I guess that's what it was.”

The black haired girl tilts her head and smiles. “Aww... you want to tell your big sis Kiriko all about it?”

Kiriko Maita. Despite her jokes, she's not your sister, but she may as well be. The two of you have only been best friends since you were both in diapers. You and her have rarely spent any time apart, and now you'll be attending the academy together.

“No, I'm fine...” You shake your head as you look out the window of the moving carriage. “We're almost there.”

“How do you know?” Kiriko laughs. “You've only been here once, when you were about eight!”

“Yeah, but I remember every detail of that visit,” you reply. “Look over there, my dad took me to that lake when we there. I've told you the story about-”

“When you were attacked by a duck?” Kiriko finishes your sentence. “Only about a hundred times! You'd think you were proud of it!”

You nod. She's not wrong... you've always been eager to passionately relay every scene from the time you visited your dad at the academy. You were always obsessed with the mystique and presence of the academy... and now it's where you'll be spending the next year. You couldn't be happier.

“Well, you're lucky we're the only two in this carriage,” Kiriko explains. “You were tossing, turning, mumbling your dads name in your sleep... it would have been pretty embarrassing if others saw you like that.”

Kiriko stretches her arms in the air and lets out a quick groan as she adjust her back, before popping out of her chair. “Oh, I'm so excited!” she exclaims, changing the subject. “Can you imagine? We're finally going to be students of Dark Gate Academy. Our parents have been telling us about this place for years but now the dream is real! I've been pinching myself every fifteen minutes just to make sure this isn't actually a fantasy!”

Kiriko has always had enough excitement in her to do the both of you. You're not one to bounce up and down the walls when something excites you. For the most part, you like to stay chilled and laid back, usually listening to music. Despite the constant teasing from Kiriko because you “try too hard to look cool” you haven't changed up your style. You just roll with the punches.

The train pulls up at it's next stop. Your stop. The town of Dakugeto. You and Kiriko grab your bags and step off onto the platform. The Academy is still a good walk away, standing at the top of a hill overlooking the town, like a haunted mansion from an old horror flick.

“There it is!” Kiriko smiles. “That's where we start our new life!”

“And we're we start looking for my dad,” you mutter.

Kiriko looks at you, an intense guilt in her eyes. She hesitates to speak. “Kaz... I have to ask...”

“Yeah?” you reply.

Kiriko pauses, her hand held close to her mouth. “Do... do you think... the Darkworld has dinosaurs?”

You blink. “Uhh... what?”

Kiriko giggles nervously, and scratches the back of her head. “Y-you know, dinosaurs! The Darkworld's supposed to be filled with all kinds of monsters right? Well, do you think any of them are huge dinosaurs? Because if we see a t-rex roaming around in there, I'm definitely going to try riding on its back!”

As Kiriko continues to chuckle nervously, something tells you that wasn't the question she was originally going to ask. Whatever, better to just humour her for now. “I don't know... maybe.”

“A-awesome!” Kiriko laughs, before looking back at the Academy. “So... you ready?”

>Yeah. I want to get there as early as possible.
>Whoa, what's your hurry? Let's look around town for a while.

Fishermen on the Longfork River have whispered of strange things since the destruction of Nayte; now, these whispers are shouts. A swarm of lunatics have settled in the furthest south-east forest in the realm of Roggar.

The first generation are merely magic-sensitive men and women whose minds were fried by the magic unleashed at Nayte; sadly, the madness is all their children will ever know, along with their own myriad of issues, physical and mental.

Following the events within the portal at Nayte, the leader known as "Manman" has failed to return. Not knowing (or perhaps caring) why, the lunatic Barnaby has declared himself leader of his fellows.

In the reign of Nick Ashwood, Barnaby somehow became Royal Admiral, and promptly ignited several ships on suspicion of swampweed smuggling. In the year 251 he was imprisoned for decade by reason of arson, and spent one day a week smoking swampweed with a man named Lee, who acted as his temporary replacement.

>Your job as a maid and hitman is simple; Protect the young master from the shadows, and be the best maid you possibly can.

-----------------

“Elisabeth, wake up. We're approaching the gates.” Elisabeth's eyes opened as the cook spoke. She instinctively reached for her pistol as she sat up. The light outside was almost completely gone, a testimony to how late in the evening it was. The maid double-checked her pistol as the cook slowed the car down. He pressed the remote to open the gate but the metal blockade didn't shift. The car came to a stop ten feet away, as the two stared at the immobile gate. The cook spoke first. “Guarantee this is a trap those fuckers set up. The minute we kill this car they'll jump out and kill us. Dammit!”

He slammed the steering wheel with his fist, as the maid looked out into the darkness. She could feel the gaze of people out there. Where, or how many, was unknown to her. She reached across the cook's lap, turning the knob to kill the headlights. As the car was plunged into darkness, she pushed back between the front seats into the back. Her hands found the switch to fold the seats down as the same, burning sensation started again in her body. The drugged individuals were definitely getting ready for a charge. The maid secured the straps in the trunk and dragged everything into the back seat. She saw movement through the windows and she grabbed for anything in the darkness. Her grip secured the first weapon and she pulled it free. Her palm traced the weapon as she tried to figure out what she grabbed. She could hear the cook charging his pistol as her vision adjusted to the darkness. The maid realized what she grabbed in her haste, as the figures darting towards the car came into view.

It's a bad omen when you come to with a knife in your hands.

It's an even worse omen when said knife is drenched in blood. You won't be the first to say this, but you're not much of a drinker. Sure, you've been to bars and nightclubs every once and a while but you don't tend to partake in the firewater. On the other hand, you're fairly certain you would remember not having a heartbeat.

Your hands are, beneath the splayed crimson, a pallid grey. Rigor mortis seems to have set in, and every movement is a struggle. You're also not breathing at all. Oddly enough you can't find it in you to panic, at least not fully. Emotions are... dulled to say the least. Your surroundings are equally grey, no lights to be seen. Even in pitch darkness you can still see easily.

Or is it because of the darkness?

Regardless, you're in a pickle. You... died. You remember dying. It wasn't as bad as you expected, a bullet to the chest and a minute of slowly passing out. At least you didn't burn to death. You'd been walking home from yet another day at your dead (heh) end job. A homeless man pulled a gun out as you ducked into an alley. You tried to hand over your wallet but he was probably high as fuck.

He shot you. And took your fucking shoes now that you think about it and look down, wiggling decrepit toes. It seems you... got back up. And walked here. And stabbed a lot of people. Some sort've homeless gathering pit, an abandoned building. Crackhouse. Man or woman, druggy or down on luck. You killed equally and mercilessly, Until you got to the man who killed you. He's there on the floor of this shitty bathroom. Where others merely had their throats shorn, he received the worst treatment.

Your clothes and weapon are a testament to the amount of blood a human body has. It's almost artful the way he's been killed. Wait... are those fucking bite marks? You've bitten chunks out of him. There's dried blood around your lips and you feel oddly satisfied thinking about it.

You don't want to look at him anymore.

>Gather your bearings. Try to figure out what the fuck happened and where to go from here.

>Leave. Immediately. You know at least one person called the police and they'll be here within' ten to twenty minutes.

Right, okay.

Recap.

Just play the events as you remember them.

You dropped into the home of a Gentek employee, bumped into some none-too-friendly dudes, got some weird gunk thrown at you, which crawled up your body like some alien parasite-you’re also fairly certain that you got shot while that was happening-and blacked out. Now you’re awake and everything is on fire. Literally. Smoke fills the apartment and hungry tongues of flame lick at you from all directions.

Which raises the interesting question of why you aren’t choking.

Or burning to death.

In fact, you feel quite cool; like you’ve been dipped in a bath at that perfect temperature between hot and cold. That’s not normal. Which means-

>ALERT! TEMPERATURE AT LETHAL LEVELS! DAMAGE TO USER IMMINENT!
>ANALYSING...

And there’s that strange, mechanical voice you thought you heard as you were waking up. It almost sounds like it’s coming from inside your head, which is… more than a little disconcerting. You reach up with a hand, feeling woozy-

-and recoil as you notice that arm is /definitely/ not yours.

My name is Mary.

I now own a dungeon.

Not by choice, mind you. I was forced into this when the previous owner placed a curse on me after I tried to audit him. Now I'm the ruler of this place until my asshole of a boss decides to send someone to free me from the curse.

So, anywhere between a month and forever.

But I'm trying to make the most of it while I'm here.

It's tiring, though, but some of it's perks are worth it.

We have a nice spa now.

Oh shit nigger it's a /qst/ civ thing.

5 tribes inhabits a nondescript generic fantasy land.
Each tribe gets 4 players to guide them through the tribal era and hopefully not die while advancing their culture, technology n shit.

Just give yourself a name to identify which tribe you belong to. Ex: "Elf Faggot"

Each tribe gets 2 actions. The first action can be a regular action (ex: scouting), a cultural action (ex: declare pants are gay) or a tech action (ex: sharpen sticks to make spears). The second action is an extra that differs for each tribe. Humans and Orcs gets an extra regular action, Elves and

Dragons gets an extra cultural one while Goblins get an extra tech.

After consulting with your team members, reply to my post with your turn.

Currently, Turn 7 has jsut started and no recap for each tribe has been made.

You're stomping through this desert for a felt eternity now, as long as you can remember. You'd say all night, but how you preceive time tells you at least half a day had passed, yet the sun hadn't risen yet. At least, it hadn't gotten any lighter or darker, you can't see far in this air. And along with the only landmarks being stone pillars with alien looking symbols you were pretty sure you're not on Earth.
And that's pretty much the only thought going through your mind.

Fact check.
You are not on Earth.
You don't know why you're so sure of that.
You don't know why you're here
You have no memory before you started walking in this desert.
Heck, you don't even remember to start walking.

Inventory check:
The only thing you have on you were some sand filled shoes and some rags covering your body with no indication who or what you once were.

So, who are you?
>Maybe you're some scientist,
>an explorer of the universe,
>security personell of someone like that,
>or maybe someone else entirely.

And what are you going to do?
>You could keep wandering and hope you find something.
>Think of something you could use as a guide so you won't run in circles.
>Stop at a rock, and try to decypher the alien symbols.
>Try something else.
First time trying to write on /qst/, let's see how that goes.

First quest, expect a bunch of shitty images in lieu of actual art. Using HQRPG: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7ghKiNJA-nAa0x2MnVWTzdJRVU/view?usp=drivesdk
(All you need to know Is it's a system based on using a single d6. Read pages 9-15 and you're good to go. You also have the Good Reflexes trait.)

You're a skeleton. Big fucking deal.

Looks like you just woke up in some shitty generic 10×10×10 foot dungeon room. There's a grate on the floor, And one in the ceiling. Water is dripping in the corner, and a rat is drinking the scummy puddle that's pooled there. There are no doors or ceilings. You have an iron rod.

You need to think about what to do, but first, What is your name?(quads>trips>dubs>9's decides)

As the title says this will be a quest where you(we) take the roll of a mercenary band. But before I go on and start this quest I will lya down some basic info and rules. First of, you need to pick a mercenary band from different factions. You will start small with poor equipment, little in terms of wealth and little to no prestige.

Here are the basic rules:
>There are 3 resources that you need to have, and those are: Money in order to pay your soldiers, food in order to feed them, and prestige in order to get recognized in the land(s)

>Money and food that is used each action/turn are the number of men divided by 10

>Combat works with the d100 system where various equipment either gives you a bonus or a disadvantage. Example: All off you soldiers have broadswords, that gives you a +15 to your roll if you encounter enemies with weak armour.

Here are the various factions you can start as your warband, you will start out small and weak, just an FYI.
I will give the background info, etc, but it will be different depending on the faction you choose to play. And each faction will get a minor bonus on weapons, armour, resources, etc...

>Human peasant militia

>Dwarven drunkards

>Goblin raiders

>Troll vagabonds

>Orc brawlers

>Elven outcasts

>The merry band of brothers (a mix of various races)
