What are some must see photo documentaries?
I've already watched Finding Vivian Maier and Daido Moriyama's Near Equal and loved both of them.

Shooting Robert King
Synopsis: Young naive photographer goes to the worlds most horrific war zones to try and win the pulitzer prize - does a lot of cocaine and fucks a lot of prostitutes while getting shot at every day. Gets home and wonders why he now has PTSD.
Exciting, sad, and funny at times - like when hes asking a British photographer what colour his aura is while they are being shot at.
this shit right here is comfy kino:

Holy shit two beautiful jewish princesses. post moar from the blonde one!! pretty please
My Uncle gifted me an olympus omd em1 mark ii. Should I sell it and but a Sony A7ii?
Seems like an infinitely better camera and its full frame. Idk why anyone would buy someone this tiny dick m43 small sensor trash when my phone takes better pictures. Plus the Sony is cheaper to?

no it's a gift you monster. if you want an A7ii save up.
EM1 Mk 2 is a perfectly adequate camera. If you can't produce good photos with this camera, the Sony will not help you at all.
I wouldn't bother. The Olympus has more soul and more "pulling power" of getting you out and shooting.
>people actually taking the daily m43 bait thread
It's been going on for months, come on
>go to Cooperstown NY to see the baseball hall of fame
>take my camera so my dad can get a photo of me in front of the Ruth and Williams statues that he said he has a photo of me in front of from like 20 years ago.
>when we get to the hall of fame there are a bunch of people with DSLRs
>they are taking photos of the plaques that are online
>they are taking photos of the exhibits and artifacts that are online
>they are taking photos of the paintings that are available online
>they are taking photos of the photos that are available online
>they are doing all of this with full auto on because every fucking dslr I see has the flash firing for no god damn reason when most of the area in the HoF you can get by with ISO 100-800
>I assume they are also just taking jpgs seeing as I can't imagine someone as retarded as to not be able to figure out how to not have the flash fire shoots raw
>mfw
Why the fuck do people spend all this money on a DSLR and then not even learn how to change the dial from A to P?

my dad has a $5k sound system in his house that he has no idea how to operate while i have a >$1000 system in my own house that sounds way better than his because i know how to calibrate it.
some people have more money than sense.
>>3138534
<$1000 i mean
>>3138531
it's exactly like >>3138534 said. some people have way more money than sense. Years ago I was the groomsman in a good friend's wedding, but was unemployed at the time. I had recently gotten into photography so I decided I would do some photos of the rehearsal/reception and give them to the couple as a wedding gift.
This was 8 years ago, and all I had was a Canon Xsi, 18-55 kit lens and a borrowed 85mm 1.8...didn't even have a speedlite.
Wedding day approaches, and the bride's stepfather shows up with a Canon 6D, Canon 5D Mark II, gear bag full of 5-6 L lenses, speedlites with stands, the whole she-bang.
Instantly feel out of my league, and he makes constant jokes all day about how "One day you'll be able to afford the real stuff." I ignore him and do my thing, shooting all day. Edit the photos while they were on honeymoon and have them sent to them when they return. They thank me and don't really say much after that about them.
They move to the DMV area because groom is in military. Fast forward to a month ago, my wife and I visit them while we were on vacation in DC and when we get to their house, it's covered in photos that I took. I ask the bride where her stepdad's photos were, and she showed me a small 8x5 of the whole wedding party. She said she has the rest in a box somewhere.
Long story short, anon...most motherfuckers by shit because they think the more expensive camera makes them have better photography, not understanding that lighting, composition, and experience with exposure mean more.
Why would you buy anything other than a Sony camera in 2017? They're the only company routinely innovating in image capture and everyone else just gets the scraps of their proprietary technologies.
Daily reminder that Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Panasonic, Leica, and Pentax all use Sony sensors. Canon doesn't, but it's tech is literally ten years behind.

I want a camera for family gatherings where it'd be unwieldy to bring my DSLR and a couple of lenses.
What point and shoot is the best for under $300 or so?
sony a9

bridge cameras are garbage
a kit lens is fine, it's a typical 18-55 zoom

As opposed to baby strollers, diapers, extra clothes, packed lunches and all that kind of stuff?
Yeah, your plastic entry level DSLR with kit zooms will really slow you down when taking a walk with your nieces and grandparents....
I got around $550 - $600 bucks to spend at best buy, what camera should I get?

First time I've heard of this guy, and looking at his stuff, it's fucking gross. I've always wondered, what's the point of images like this? They have a short lifespan because they're going to look dated as fuck in two years, you can't make prints with them because they only work as IG images, and they can't really be used as actual modeling shots either.
Has /p/ ever bought a used camera from craigslist before?
What should I look for/watch out for?
Also, are any of these good deals?

I've only bought a lens. But some things to look out for:
1. make sure the camera turns on
2. make sure all dials and buttons work
3. make sure it can take a photo
4. If it can take a photo, make sure the photos aren't fucked up in anyway
I'm sure it's probably a good deal, because a thief or something wouldn't be posting a 10 year old camera for $130.
I just recently bought a camera off Kijiji. When I went met up the person I took a few photos with the camera and checked both the lenses for smooth motion, working motors and condition. I didn't notice until I got home how that the buttons were essentially jammed although they still worked. I also didn't notice until I got home that were what I thought were about 3 dead pixels on all the photos.
I was a bit worried at that point but using the "Manual Cleaning" Sensor cleaning trick actually got rid of the dead pixels and for the buttons I held the camera back facing down and wiped each with isopropyl alcohol which got rid of all the gunk and returned them to their intended clicky state!
So it's hard to remember to check everything but some things aren't necessarily deal-breakers. Especially if you know how to fix a problem but bring it up to them to possibly reduce the price for yourself.
CL is a great place to get a good deal but absolutely shit to try to sell anything and people will try to lowball the fuck out of you. I had my 70-200 f4L IS up for 6 months at 500 bucks and people were offering me 200 and 250 for it. I sold it on ebay in a week for 525.
That being said almost 90% of my entire loadout was bought on Craigslist all across the country, with the exception of my Df, 50 1.4, F100 and 75-300.
Some shit to watch for.
Everything this guy said >>3138168 and the following
Check lenses for fungus, even a small amount can be a deal breaker if it sits in your bag long enough, on the flipside if you're brave and can kill it by sitting it in the sunlight for a bit, you can legitimately lowball someone over lens fungus and get an awesome deal especially if it doesn't affect image quality.
Check for fungus in the finder too, not really a problem on anything made in the last 20 years but if a lens had fungus and sat in a bag with a body that fungus can spread to other lenses if left long enough.
If the serial number has been defaced, it's stolen.
Check lenses for infinity focus too. Check AF lenses for focus accuracy, obviously f1.4 and below lenses may miss by a hair that's normal in some cases and newer cams can finetune focus in body.
Check filter threads on lenses for drop damage. Check the outside of the lens for it too.
A big one for older lenses, check the aperture for snappiness. Older lenses that have sat for long periods of time can get oil on the blades and won't close the aperture fast enough during the time of exposure and your image will be overexposed. Oil on aperture blades is only a dealbreaker on TTL lenses, anything super old school like Leica or Soviet LTM rangefinders usually have oil on the blades anyway because they are manual diaphragms and stay closed through the entire exposure mechanism.
I've just been informed that my application and interviews were fruitfull and i'll be a photographer for the Royal Carribean Cruises. I'm grabbing their D7200 which will be a HUGE leap (i presume) from my current Canon EOS 1000D, Sony Alpha 200 and a Nikon D3100. What should I expect from it bois?

I personally like instagram. It seems to be one of the few places where other people will actually see your stuff if they don't follow you already.
There's another website I had been using in past, but stopped. It's called Pashadelic, it's devoted to landscape photography, merging social media, with geo tagged photos, and sun/moon tracking at any spot on earth. It was fucking awesome, but it's still in beta phase, and a lot of asians use it, and mostly in Japan and US. It's also gotten worse as they've changed it, so I don't use it anymore.
You might want to try closed groups on facebook as well for good inspiration and feedback. I joined one on fb, and it's got maybe 100 people that are all posting good material, feedback etc.
