why do you need a dial just to change what mode you're using? chances are you won't be changing modes very often
>>
>>3145519
How about two /functional/ function dials. Thumb dials that require weakening your grip to contort your hand around to reach it don't count.

Gearaffes, /p/ used to have a team representing it in the 4chan divegrass cup, however last spring we got banned because of lack of board interest.
Personally I think this shouldn't have happened and I would like to see the team play again. If you do so as well please answer this thread and\or vote in this strawpoll: https://strawpoll.com/zzb37bzp

Hey hey, got a quick question.

Wanting to get a camera to film the stars.

Love space.

Nikon P900, or Nikon L34?

L34 is higher rez, P900 has better zoom.

Which camera should I get to view the stars?

Give explanations please.

Thanks :)

P900 is $600
L34 is $200
>>

To film the stars you need as large a sensor as possible and lens with the widest aperture. And not canon. Photography low light performance is all about how much light your camera can gather, a full frame camera like the sony a7 has a sensor with approximately 30 times greater surface area than the p900. And not canon, as their low light performance is well behind sony, who make every other sensor for every other brand pretty much.

Look at sony a7 range, nikon d750, d610, d800, d810, pentax k1, etc.

Then for lens, you want something wide and fast, 35mm or wider and f2 or faster. A wide lens will allow a longer shutter speed without the stars turning into streaks, longer shutter = more light gathered. A faster lens will let in more light at once.

You will also need a sturdy af tripod and a vehicle with plenty of petrol to reach dark sky areas.

Good luck!

Thanks!

I see many people on youtube using P900's to film planets and stars.

Here is one such video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dICIKYn5w4w

Saw a few L340 videos too and they look similar.

Just wondering if the p900 is worth that extra cash opposed to the L340...

Here are specs.

What's better? :)

Does this photo have a shred of artistic integrity? Because I swear I've seen this exact same shot with multiple different women from EVERY MILLENNIAL PHOTOGRAPHER FROM CALIFORNIA.

Link to the page- https://twitter.com/jenni0choa

Every pic is the exact same. Dim room with these weird neon lights, and sluts caked in makeup making sensual poses. I personally feel that it's not interesting, not classy, not of ANY artistic value whatsoever, and not worthy of anyone's time.

Doesn't really hsve much traction. Just a lazy unartistic local. I just don't get why people like this don't just quit if all they're gonna do is the exact same shit.
>>
Fuck. I tried doing a similar blue/orange contrast a year ago for a nude shoot. Didn't realize it was a trend.

Is Image Stabilisation actually useful?
I don't own any lenses with image stabilisation but I'm considering it at the moment. Not exactly sure why though.
Landscapes I use a tripod/rock/car roof/fence post/etc or if its daytime, just a decent shutter speed.
Low light shots of people I do the same or bump the ISO to maybe 2000 max if I want to take it without any real set up. I generally avoid on camera flash because it looks terrible to me.
I suppose that's the time to use it but at 1/20sec or so, won't you get blurred people from general human movement anyway? And at higher speeds, I don't notice myself shaking enough to impact the quality of shots.

Basically I feel like still subjects can be shot with a steady base in low light and spur of the moment stuff either requires a decent shutter speed or else the subject will likely move too much.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious though.
What's the scenario that makes IS worth it?
I am not saying its shit BTW. I am sure I'm a genuine mong. I just don't know why yet.

>What's the scenario that makes IS worth it?
It's a tool that can be employed if you have a need for it. Just because it exists doesn't mean you have to have it. Think about how/if it would help in your technique and the subjects you like to shoot. If you can't see a benefit don't waste money on it.
>>
>>3145090
Yeah, I guess so. It just seems so good at first glance. Like, hells yeah I could use an extra 4 stops! But I don't think it would benefit my shooting.
>>
>>3145085
With stills, it's just a very nice tool to have.
However, IS is EXTREMELY useful with video as it can be nearly day and night difference in footage stability. If you're filming on the go, IS (or better yet, IBIS) is a must.

So, I want to buy a DSLR mainly for video but also multipurpose. After some research I am now between two models and can't decide wich one to pick: Canon T5i or Nikon D5300. What should I buy? Are there any better options for the money?
I'm a filmmaking student from Argentina and both models were recomended by my teachers. My budget is $650 so I'm not picking any higher models, and won't buy anything used.

What are some interesting uses of long exposure that aren't just the same old smooth water, sparks and moving cars shots?

Are there any uses/examples of long exposure at a macro level?

I want to buy either the DX or FX version of the new Nikon AF-P 70-300 lenses for my D7500. Which one should I get?

The 70-300 is a soft piece of shit on FF already it will be even softer on crop.
The 50-300 will be perfect for that toy camera anyways.
But do what you want, seeing you already fell for the D7500 odds are you will continue to make the same bad decisions in the future.
>>
>>3144091
You seem pretty jaded, senpai. You obviously have no idea about the superiority of the AF-P models nor the fact that the D7500 is the best DSLR in its price class.
