Can we have a non-camera, non-lens gearthread?
I recently got a peakdesign slide, because whenever I put my stuff on my Shoulder rig or Monopod for video, the neckstrap would just hand around and annoy me. I gotta say, the system is darn practical, especially because I can attach the neckstrap to anything else that needs strapping, like itself, to form sort of a sling with one free anchorpoint.
More stuff on this, including Tripods, Monopods, Filters, caps, bags, etc.

I didn't have a camera strap for my 1d mark II so I put on a strap from an old minolta SLR I found in a thrift store.
I have a bad neck so I can't hang the camera round my neck (I don't know why anyone would anyway, it's like 13 lbs of camera+lens) but I guess if I dropped the camera the strap would be the last line of defense I could grab onto before it hit the ground.
I should probably get a hand strap.

Hey /p/ anyone else had a mixed experience with the Hexar AF? I want to like the camera but after some use I can't seem to get the universal praise for this thing
>hurr why excellent camera makes bad pics?
maybe you need to git gud?
>>3142987
Maybe it's me lol
Camera works fine and holy fuck is it quiet so it's got that going for it. Perhaps it's my inner leicafag/bokeh whore but I don't really like the clinical quality of the 35 f2
>>3142994
>but I don't really like the clinical quality of the 35 f2
You really should not rely on the lens to make your images interesting.
Hey /p/, I am a graphic design major who's really interested in all forms of digital media. I like marketing and product packaging, film, music videos, album art, etc.
That said, I want to get a nice cheap beginners DSLR / mirrorless to start on. I know nearly nothing about DSLRs specifically, but i've handled plenty of film cameras and know how lenses work, etc. I didn't see any beginners guides or anything in the sticky, so apologies if you get these threads too often. I mainly plan on using it for recording beginner music videos and maybe short films, as well as product packaging and photos for use in my designs. Obviously needs to be at least 1080p, preferably 60fps but I don't know if that's common or not.
I currently work at Best Buy so if it's available there that's a plus because I can use my discount, but I am looking for the best deal, so if I can get it cheaper with a slightly used one on eBay i'd rather go for that.
Thank you!
Get a Sony a7ii. They're a great deal and cheaper than reddit tier crop sensor bullshit. Best system on the market.
>>3142857
Appreciate the advice, and I do like Sony's a series, that looks a little over what I'd currently consider cheap though. I was hoping to keep it under $1000 after getting all the neccessary supplies (SD cards, case, lenses)
>>3142857
Dude, that is not an entry level camera at all.
What is Lauren Southern's camera?
looks like a c300 to me.

Why is it so hard to get into infrared flash photography? I can't find a single place that will just sell me an infrared flash.

If a scrape off the IR filter from a d70 can I take pictures like this?
But those are all fucking ultraviolet photos. Infrared does the opposite, making skin smooth and doll-like, the skin being semi-transluscent to IR. Jesus christ, every article about this photographer/set says infrared and it's clearly not.
>>3141249
1. Buy old milsurp ir flashlight/iluminator.
2. Get large GN flashgun.
3. Glue flashlight ir filter to flash.
4. ?????
5. Cliché!
So what do negroes look photographed w/ an IR flash on an IR sensitive medium? And does this shit see through clothes?

Questions that don't deserve their own threads:
Taking an idea from other boards since there are a lot of threads with very few responses. Post your questions in here that don't quite fit in with /gear/ or the other generals.
I'll start. Are there any good lightmeter phone apps?
>>3122333
so, that /p/ book for 2016.....?
>>3122333
I live in Australia and currently use a flatbed scanner to dry mount my film negetives from 135mm up to 4x5. I want to try my hand at wet mounting. The first problem im facing is trying to find a mounting fluid product here in Australia. Obviously the liquid is pretty volatile and people wont ship it internationally. Are there any fluids i can buy from hardware stores that will do. I see some people suggest everything from baby oil to lighter fluid.
>>3122333
I bought David Quiles' LightMeter app yesterday because I was getting sick of the free version. The full version gives you the ability to callibrate the measurements manually which I did side-by-side with a DSLR's meter because I was unsure about my phone camera's base readings (which I am glad I did because it was off). That plus the fact that it retains ISO and other settings makes it a lot more useful. Can't comment on the incident meter's accuracy though as I always use it on reflected mode.

https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/8/31/16228202/olympus-e-m10-mark-iii-4k-camera
Yes, I know - m43 meme, but anyways. Opinions?
>>3142426
an entry level mirrorless camera that has 4k video and is better than expensive compact cameras like X100F. this is the future of amateur hobbyists.
>>3142426
Em10.2 owner. The mark III looks ood for anyone who wants an entry level m43 and doesn't have one already. Not enough of an upgrade for anyone who already has any other Olympus or Panasonic camera though.
Supposedly the IBIS is much stronger on this new em10, on par with the em1 or em5. That and 4K video is the biggest improvement IMO, but I'd rather get a secondhand em5.ii for the weather sealing, or wait to see if the next em5 has the 20mp sensor.
>>3142432
If it only didn't cost three times as much as every other entry level alternative.
ive been doing a lot of research on sRGB and AdobeRGB and i'm still really confused on what i should be using and how i should be using it.
this all started when i noticed that my pictures seemed to be losing a lot of saturation when transferring them to my phone and uploading to instagram, which i assume is happening because i'm shooting in adobeRGB
I would simply use sRGB but i also like to print my own photos at home.
i saw some videos online saying that i should only be shooting in adobeRGB if i had a printer that was capable of it. I then did more research and found people saying that there is not such thing as an adobeRGB printer and that they use CMYK which left me even more confused.
tl;dr I don't want to use sRGB if it means i'm gonna lose color detail in my prints, but i'm not sure if its even making a difference. Help me out here??
you're overcomplicating this.
Convert to srgb for web, proof using color managed software and your monitor profile
Convert to cmyk for prints, softproof using fogra shit or a profile supplied by your print service
Use argb or profoto as intermediate
>>3142346
yeah ive been looking into the color proofs in photoshop
so I should just shoot argb and just export it to whatever colorspace i need?
>>3142347
Yes
Unless you have a fantastic 100%argb monitor there should be close to no visible difference in between properly converted color spaces if you got your color management right
No one can be this useless, at this point they must be doing it on purpose, right?
