So, what did you all learned from yesterdays merging?

I learned that this board is literally dead.

Anyone else planning on not ever returning to this sad wasteland?

Do you have a recognisable attribute or signature in your photos to make it recognisably yours?
How bad an idea is it for my to leave my camera on +1 step exposure for a more distinctive look?

This

Forcing a style just because you want to have a style is kinda backwards imo

If you do have a style that's specific and recognizable it will eventually show throughout your body of work. The whole point of it is to be natural

Why would you force it in the first place? If you want so bad to be recognized just throw a watermark on it
>>
>>3049032

Just bought a Nikon D7200 - Yay - it comes with an 18 - 105mm lense which will be good to start with because I am a complete beginner - sorry poorfags - Will buy either a 35, or a 50 lense and a wide angle after.

Buy the 35 for normal everyday walkabout photography and a Samyang 16/2 for the UWA stuff.
The 18-105 is a junk like any other superzoom anyways.
>>
why is it junk? it has VR... it will be good for a beginner like you OP to start

Bought a cheap Hoya R72 filter second hand.
I have no experience processing IR whatsoever but I followed exactly what most tutorials tell you to do and I get some (what I think are) strange results.

In upper pic related you see the blues look completely unaffected by the IR filter.
In the lower pic (in which I slightly increased saturation to make it more obvious) you can see that the fence has the same tint as the foliage, along with some of the rooftops, windows, etc. In all IR pictures I could find there's a clear difference between buildings and foliage.

I have some reasons to suspect the filter might be a counterfeit Hoya. The line of the 'H' doesn't cross the 'O' and the label with the serial number on the back of the box doesn't have a code for the type of filter, which some say indicates a fake.
The glass looks very dark as it should, when I look through it at something brightly lit I can faintly see it.

So: am I bad at processing, are my expectations of a 720nm IR filter wrong or is something actually wrong with the filter?

Sony a6000 and the Sony 50mm f1.8

It'll run you around 600 and you can spend the savings on new lenses. The 28mm f2 is nice.
>>
>>3046761
If you're just getting into photography, I'd recommend shooting film. You can find many great camera+lens kits for under $100, and your pictures will always look better than anything taken digitally. In order to shoot digital 35mm, you need to spend thousands of dollars. And, even then, the sensor cannot ever quite capture the life that film injects into pictures. Invest the rest of the money into a development kit, scanner, and film and you'll be golden. Once you've made the investment, you'll have your photos in a physical format that will last a lifetime.

Is it feasible to buy one? They go from 5-10 bucks.
Would it be better to buy a cheap soviet camera instead?
I just love the colors you get, plus you can work yourself around it and replace the film & the batteries.

My older sister bought a fancy new DSLR and I thought that shit looks pretty cool, she gave me her old Lumix waterproof P&S and I was hooked.

Only money I've made is from selling gear for profit, maybe around $800 all up over a long period. It would be cool in future to sell some prints, but I'm really not worried about making money from something I do for fun

>Have two batteries now
>Still can't meet the life of a single battery in a DSLR
Real talk though, the whole "muh battery life" stuff only applies to people who do video, or who are doing some in depth coverage shit where they're not going to be able to charge their batteries nightly.
>>
>>3050161
>>3050168
I've seen "hacks" for sony cameras where you can have a continuous power supply that runs off the large sony prosumer batteries and will last HOURS doing video. I think you can do it for like $70
>>
you dont even need a battery grip

if you have one other battery in your pocket the battery life point is moot
