Thanks anon! Most importantly using a nice sharp lens helps a lot before doing any editing to get a good shot.

But I use Adobe Lightroom to edit my photos. This shot was done with natural lighting, so when I do that I go in and brush out the model and boost some settings on her selectively, like +.5 exp, add a bit of sharpness, contrast, etc. Then that gives the illusion that it was shot with strobes. I also edit the eyes, and boost those to make them 'pop'. Then from there I edit the rest of the photo as a whole to get the colors and feel I envisioned in my head.

Overall good shot, love the background, beautiful face, hair looks good, but could be a little less messy. Lighting is really good in both. Is it natural light? I'm guessing no.

Biggest problem holding this back is model is a little chunky (about 5-10 kg overweight) and her outfit doesn't hide it. With a better clothing choice she could look elegant sexy and feminine even in spite of her weight. Instead she looks like a bit of a slob, and poor hipster trying to be trendy.

It actually is natural lighting. I typically work with natural light nowadays, unless I've got a "photo assistant", even though I've got multiple speedlights, modifiers, stands, etc.

I've got a few more shots in different locations from that shoot, but I think these overall are the best ones because of the backdrop.

That's her "unique" style of fashion. Her outfits usually have that hipster-esque vibe to them :/

I'm sure you could've done a lot more if you had the RAW, and not a tiny 900 pixel compressed as hell JPEG.

Not a bad edit, just not my style. Looks a little flat with her face being blown out, and the WB seems off or it's from the tinted of the S/H you said you did. I personally have been going with a lot more darker and dramatic tones in my portrait shots when it comes to editing. But it all comes down to stylistic/artistic choice.

Thanks. What do you mean the face skin is messed up? I did very little with retouching, just -5 contrast/clarity to soften the skin and spot healing to remove some dots. Her nose looks a little bend because of highlight/shadow but I'm not sure if I should change it, possibly making it looks unnatural.

I just contact somewhat attractive girls I went to high school with on IG (the ones that always get 300+ likes on any selfie they post) offering them a free photoshoot. They'll get a bunch of good photos of themselves, and you get the experience and get to build your website's portfolio. No one I've asked has turned down that offer.

This has built my portfolio a ton, and also has helped me become more confident in my shooting abilities. I've done around 31 photoshoots so far, and now I'm starting to get paid because the people who follow me on IG notice that I'm (slightly) better than all the other photogs around my area.

Also it helps if you can talk to women without sweating profusely.
