Rule of thumb is to never shoot a shutter speed slower than the focal length without a tripod especially with longer FL's. You can get away with slow speeds on hyper-wides and sometimes ultrawides.

You're stuck in that classic consumer trap of trying to have what you want, rather than want what you have. Strip down, man. One lens, one camera. Get something you'll want to carry, and then carry it.

idk m8 just start small. do you know anything about studio lighting? if so, come up with some ideas, find a location that'll give you permission to shoot there, get a couple b800's and a battery pack to light your location, a couple small strobes for fill, and a couple models. there you have it, everything you need to make a small crewdson production (minus his vision, experience, and skillset, of course.)

If you can't afford lights, start looking around town for some interesting lighting. You'll find it if you keep an eye out.

Craigslist is your friend as far as free props go. I got rid of my car and replaced it with a cheap pickup truck so I can pick up free furniture whenever I find it.

Any differences that I can discern between the two of them are negligible. The 35-70 performed almost just as well as the 50 did — at least at that focal length; It was also comparable at 70mm, though lacking in picking up finer details (like dust). Overall, and in any real-world scenario, I'd say the performances between the two pieces of glass are about on-par.
