Hey br/o/s, I really want a motorcycle but I have zero knowledge about them. After a bit of lurking I've learned that Harleys are prone to boomer tax and hence overpriced. I'm not really about one brand or another, all I want is a reliable bike that looks good.

Price preferably lower, since I'll have to save up for insurance, which I assume will rape me being under 25.

All I care is that it's not a sports bike (I don't really like the look) and I'm not a big fan bikes with a lot of storage compartments. I believe the term might be softails? It'd be a cruising bike not a DD or anything, and I'd only really get to use it like half the year because winter.

Sorry for the awful picture, it's a Blackline Harley that I liked.

TLDR, looking for reliable American looking bike that requires the least amount of maintenance, even if the entry cost suffers for it. Halp.

New Kawasaki Vulcan Tourer: $16,699

New Harley Street Glide:$20,899

Keep both for the term of the loan, and see where that extra 4 grand went when it's time to sell it. Not to mention fit and finish. Oh, and some sweet Brembo brakes on the Harley. Much better than the pleb Nissin squeezers on the ricer.

Fuck me.

Two months ago my parents let me know that they wanted to get me a car for college so that I could stop using public transport to get to my job as long as I payed for the insurance. Obviously I was pretty stoked about this, and we went to a used dealership a few days later. Didn't see anything good so I did some research on Craigslist and found a silver Mk.5 VW GTI with 60k miles and a really clean engine bay for around 8k. Our budget was 10k (I was throwing in $1,000) so I sent them the link and they drove out to go look at it, but they come back with an autotragic 4-speed 2005 Jeep Liberty. Alright.

My mom thought the Golf was too small and unsafe, but they saw it on the way home at another dealership and picked it up for me because they said it looked like the "Golf but bigger". I hugged them and was grateful, but now I'm in a fucked situation.

Fast forward two months: the Liberty has intermittent death wobbles, the transmission takes two centuries to shift and lugs the engine up hills to the point of grinding, it gets 12 fucking MPG, the alternator is failing, and the wiring harness is fucked so all of my lights will randomly stop working.

I can maybe afford to replace the alternator, but I don't have the tools, space, or money to fix the other shit and the local shops are quoting me 4-7k to fix everything. On top of that, it fucking chews through gas so it's eating my wallet. My parents refuse to pay for repairs because "it was fine when they test-drove it so I must of mistreated it."

I'm afraid this thing is going to have its CV joints explode on the highway or that it'll die on me once the alternator fucks off because its wobbling is violent as hell and the lights flicker constantly. I already checked the battery and the terminals: they're fine.

Do I pawn this thing off for scrap money and buy some beater? Pretty sure my parents would be pissed that I sold their gift but I can't afford to fix this damned thing.

Help me /o/bi-won.

Oh, and the best part? It had 90k miles on it and they payed 9k for this thing.

It's such a hunk of shit and it's falling apart but I need to purchase a cheap but-reliable hunk of shit that will at least last me through college or be cheap to maintain.

alright /o/, I need some help.

My dad just bought a BRZ and wants some new wheels. Hes leaving the car basically stock and has ordered the BRZ kit that has black trim. I suggested Volks but he like these dumb multi-spoke black wheels. This matters because 6 years down the line it will become my car, which I will body kit out and want the least work to do. Help me here guys, how do I convince him?

Pic related my dream but my dads car is in blue

If it's going to be your car why don't you save your shekels and buy the meme wheels yourself for when you inherit the car?

So currently I'm set to win a 2006 Toyota 4runner on ebay for $10.5k. I just got a job offer in a major city and now I'm starting to think I should back out of the bid and find something smaller.

The reason I wanted a 4runner was because I wanted to get into overlanding. With my new job I realize I won't really have enough time to do that most likely and I can always buy a 4runner in a year or so.

What do? And what car would I get instead?

Well it sure as shit isn't Colin "One-time WRC champion who tended to crash more than complete events" McRae...

In reality, it's probably a toss-up between any of the Group B drivers just because of how terrible those cars were in comparison to the power they made. It's a wonder only two of them died in that 5 year period.

I'm getting my transmission and differential fluid replaced in my 2001 BMW 540i 6 speed, and live in an apartment without tools. I've sourced a shop to do the job and they want $98 for the hour of labor it would take for it as well.

Is that a fair estimate?

Sounds about right. I assume this isn't a BMW dealership though?

Also do your homework, read reviews, talk to customers leaving the shop, etc.

Make sure they actually CHANGE the fluids.

>>
>>14605723
It's an independent shop that specializes in BMW's and gets really good reviews all around.

Would it really take an hour for that shit though?
>>
>>14605799

It might, I'm not familiar with 540s but some vehicles aren't just a simple matter of pulling a plug and letting it drip out. Maybe they have to unbolt and move some shields or hoses, maybe the computer needs some attention after a service like this, etc.

Is your transmission a closed system? That is, can the fluid be filled by simply dumping it in or does it need to be pumped in with a special pump? Some systems are closed and so changing fluid is more labour intensive.

If you want to save some money you could always look at buying the fluids yourself and just having them perform the labour. My dad takes his Ridgeline to a private shop, but it requires special VTM-4 fluid that you can only buy at a Honda dealership. My dad just buys the fluid and leaves it with the mechanic when he drops off the vehicle, saves him having to wait for the mechanic to go to the dealership and buy it, since Honda won't deliver something like that the way NAPA does.

Why do only SUVs and hatch/wagons have wipers on the rear windshield?

>(With the exception of some sports cars e.g. 90's Toyota Celica (Rally), Mitsubishi 3000GT)

Does it have to do with fluid dynamics? Will rain water not accumulate as much on the rear of most sedans?

Can't be mounted on a trunk lid and would look unsightly mounted into the glass?

All the cars I've seen with rear wipers have them mounted to the hatch that moves with the glass.
>>
>>14605609
I wish my civic had a rear wiper. Just to get the dew off in the morning.
>>
>Does it have to do with fluid dynamics?

Yes it does. The near vertical rear windshields cause an aerodynamic low pressure zone that causes a cyclonic motion. This cyclonic motion pushes suspended dirt and water to the windshield. On a sedan the more fluid motion over the windshield pushes water towards the back.

>so i found an ad for a Mazda rx7.

I talked to the owner. He showed me the car and basically everything I needed to know. Turns out it is in perfect condition and he has not modified it in the least bit. He is offering it for 23.300 euros.

Here is my dilemma.

At the same time I saw the rx7 ad I also saw an mk1 1991 Miata for just about 4.000 euros. I have not spoken to the Miata's owner and the photos don't show anything that indicates that it is badly treated.

So what do I do guys?

Do I go for my dream car (rx7)? or do I go for a cheaper, more fun (from what I've heard) car?
