Pretty sure the Passat has always used the B platform, which is shared with the A4.
The A6 uses the C platform, which isn't used by any VW.

If you don't know what to look for yourself, get someone to go with you who does, drive it to a garage and get it inspected before you buy it or search the internet and make a list of shit to check.

After you buy it, change fluids and filters right away just to be sure.

Depends what you are buying. The NA V6s are allright if maintained. The real problem with these audis is in the electrics. Gets expensive really quickly.

Here in yurop the C5 is one of the best value for money cars right now. Cheap, comfy and lots of parts. however its not going to last forever, even the manual gearboxes go out at 350-400k km. If you like the looks and the way it drives, go for it. Get the quattro if fuel efficiency isnt an issue.

Dont listen to the faggots that say its a passat. It shares absolutely nothing with VWs and doesnt feel like one.
