>Apple Inc has approached British Formula One team owner McLaren Technology Group for a strategic investment or a potential buyout, the Financial Times reported, citing sources.

Discus /o/, what do you think Apples end game is? You think Mclaren will pull the plug? Affordable Apple/Mclaren electric self driving cars incoming? Should tesla be on suicide watch? Should Apple know their about to get BTFO?

/o/, I do not visit you often and thus, like many before me, I come to you in my hour of greatest need. Due to overexcited and overbearing parents I bought a car. A 2010 Chevy Impala LS the 174,000 miles on it. the prices was 3,500. My father drove it around and seemed to find it to be perfectly fine. it drove straight, no alignment issues, no leaking, no breaking problem, everything was absolutely perfect. The engine was literally clean enough to eat off of. the only issue was that the check engine light came on. well, nothing seemed remiss overall. Well, the dolt decided to hand over the 3,500 (1,700 of which was from my insurance on my last car) before they'd come back with the car and said that the check engine light had been sorted out. I should have said something but I did not.

Well, they said it was the purge valve, something whose function I do not know.
Anyway, this was less than 24 hours ago. Since then, on my way home from work, a drive of a little under twenty minutes, the car has:
Stopped being able to break properly, the vehicle glides gently to a stop over a long distance even when I was standing on the breaks

Stopped Accelerating properly. If I try to do anytihng more than gingerly touch the gas petal the car grinds and growls and will not accelerate whilst the rpm soars. if I just lightly step the car will speed up very slowly until about 45 mph.

It sputters like an old timey car or someone revving a motorcycle dramatically whilst shakily moving along.

When starting it up again at home it would barely stay on and I could smell something burning.

There (of course) was no warranty on the car, but the thing was literally in perfect condition, no rust, no scratches, the tires in front were a little balding but eh.

Please help me. What the fuck is going on with this thing, should I go hold the skinny jew who sold this to me at gun point? Can it be fixed? If this post is stupid and clogging up the board just let me know, I'll delete it.

Major roadblock right now is that fucking power rear tailgate glass. A lot of the truck was in boxes when I bought it. Most of it is back together, except for the rear glass.

It's has some weird relay/switch/ancient electrical voodoo that I'm not familiar with. Once I figure out how to wire ithe and get power to the motor I can reassemble everything.

My tailgate switch is worn out too.
Luckily I don't have to open the tailgate very often. I had to pull off the inner panel and jump the motor off the power terminals on my amp.

Alright /o/, I'm buying my first car and could use a little advice. I'll preface this by saying that while I know how to change most fluids and jump start a dead battery, I don't really know a whole lot about cars. I've also recently moved half way across the country and don't have a mechanic or any friends or family who know their way around an engine either. Because of this, I am very hesitant to buy used.

The majority of vehicles owned by people I know are Hondas, and no one ever seems to have any real issues with them. So Honda was my obvious pick for my first car. I was originally looking at the Fit becasue I wanted something cheap, fuel efficient, and was a little more roomy. I don't make a lot of money, and in my new city I now NEED a vehicle, so overall price, fuel economy, and reliability are my primary focuses. I do like to go camping and do outdoorsy stuff that generally means not driving on paved roads though, so carrying capacity and the ability to handle poor weather/roads are also things I would like.

The CRV immediately popped out as something that might suit my needs perfectly, but it is slightly out of my price range (20,000). Then there is the HRV, which seems like a CRV-lite. It's closer to my budget, but it seems like I'm losing out on a LOT of performance.

The main reason for this thread is that I'm looking for advice on what other options I might have. I'm really unfamiliar with most other manufactures and am having trouble wading through the myriad of options available to me; it's all a little overwhelming. I also have a busy work schedule and no transport of my own right now, so I'd like to really narrow down my options before I stat visiting dealerships. Any haggling or other first time buyer tips are also welcome.

Alright, first off you don't have to be afraid of buying a used car, as long as it has a proper service history.
This also opens up many more possibilities than buying new.

How about Volvo's XC models/trims? Some are SUVs, others are slightly lifted sedans/wagons with additional plastic bits to make it look more rugged.

Subaru also makes pretty good outdoorsy cars, things like the Crosstrek and Forester have a bit more ground clearance than most cars (and even crossovers).
>>
>>15863744

The Subarus all seem to be at the same price point of the CRV, but require me to o up a trim level for an automatic, and Volvo is WAY out of my price range. I understand that my options in SUVs and Crossovers is very limited at the 20 thousand point, and that buying used sorta becomes my only option if that's what I really want.

What do you mean by "proper service history"? Call me a cheap bastard, but baring any major accidents, I plan to keep whatever I buy for the next 10 year, so I guess my thinking is it's better to buy new than something that has several years of wear on it that is going to take away from the lifespan and increase maintenance for me down the road.
>>
>>15863800
A proper service history just means proof that the car has been serviced at regular intervals, and all the parts that needed replacing have been replaced.

Of course, a new car will come with a warranty and all that, but a properly maintained used car of a few years old can still run perfectly fine for many years.

Just keep in mind that while the initial purchase price of a car will drop, but service costs don't really. Look up normal running costs for cars you're looking at online, on forums for instance. Those are also a great place to find things to watch out for, which engines to avoid, etc.

What car would you think is the ideal choice for the time machine?

What car would you think the studio would actually use?

What features have you become so used to that you wouldn't buy another car without them? For me, the list is:
>remote start, factory installed
>heated seats and steering wheel (cold northeast winters)
>Bluetooth stereo

Have to write an opinion piece on a topic, chose self driving cars

Need pro/con, for/against opinions on the whole driverless car topic, specifically in the US

Not asking to be spoon-fed, but seeing other opinions besides the same shit repeated in every article would be helpful

Things to consider:
- Moral dilemma of the car's decision in a situation where the tech fails
- The techs adaptability/function in fog, rain, *snow*, dust, etc.
- adaptability to poorly maintained/unmarked/dirt roads, "road work" conditions
- Government control of cars/data gathering/ remote immobilization etc.
- haxorz
- limitations of current cameras/sensors
- integration with human powered cars, eventual replacement
- how you will be the one guy making gasoline in his garage lab and blasting your turbo rx7 around self-driven soapboxes in a postapocalyptic-retrofuturistic southwestern landscape in the year 2k69
