How come when a RX7 breaks down 20 times in a month its due to its 'character', but when a BMW breaks down its a 'money pit'?
no one cares. both cars are for cucks.
If either of them are breaking constantly you're doing something wrong.
>>15994223
Because the rx7 is worth something when its 15 years old
How the FUCK do I get my brake drum off?
89 crown vic, rear drums. I had to make a tool from scrap to do this lockpicking bullshit in the picture, finally managed to get the pads backed off and still can't remove the drum. It jiggles, it rotates, the driveshaft moves in turn when I rotate the drum/hub. There's a bit of play as you can see the studs move within their respective holes, so the drum isn't fused to the hub. I've sprayed penetrant in every crevasse, wailed on it with a 5lb hammer, and tried a crowbar. What the fuck else is there? What would a mechanic in a real shop do?
Eric the car guy on YouTube says that one way to do this is to drive bolts into the threaded holes on the hub, but mine has no threaded holes so that won't work. Thanks Ford.
>>15994221
*Threaded holes on the drum, not hub
Speaking from experience: very carefully with a pry bar. As soon as you see the shoes, tap on them lightly with a hammer and punch, as they are most likely still catching the drum as little. If anything breaks, at least the shoes and hardware aren't expensive to replace.
Is a jeep phase a real thing? I'm 22 and been getting more and more into off-roading now and want to get myself a great mudder vehicle alongside my daily. I already own a Ranger for daily driving for work and it's a good roader. But feeling the rush of a topless, doorless jeep can't be beat. It'd also be almost perfect for summer driving and winter plowing.
I might sell a few of my higher end guns (especially the shotguns since I don't actually need them) to buy an old CJ7 from my friend or YJ from the interwebs and do a fixer up on them.
Anyone else in this situation in their life? Will this pass in 6 months or 6 years?
>>15994134
I had that feel
When I saw how autistic wrangler prices were it went away within a few days
>>15994180
An old, drivable TJ would be around $6000-$7000. That would require around 9 months of saving up for me and if I sold a few of my upper class guns, I can do it within 4. Repairs would be like $2000 so it's not that bad.
Maybe a CJ-5 or CJ-7 would be $4000-$5000 and a lift/ other tyres for $2000 I'm really feeling frisky. Still, I can just imagine all the fun I have mudding with it.
The other side of the coin is that my Ranger already does offroad pretty well with its armoured chassis. I don't NEED a Jeep (but I also don't NEED $5000 worth of guns, too. so...)

You sound like you spend your money way too fast
Is it irrational to have a fear of dying from your perceived incompetent wrenching skills??
I want to start on the path of fixing my car, but I'm scared I'm going to fuck up and kill either myself or someone else.
Is this normal o? Should I feel this way or should I just go for it?
I ask because my first project right now is a brake job...
You worry because you bought garbage jack/jack stands.
Have faith in your tools
sounds like typical anxiety.
>>15994133
The only tools I own are the oem jack that came with my 99' Corolla and large diameter tire iron I bought from Walmart
The only thing I keep with on my car are all the fluids and changing out spares
>>15994135
Is wrenching badly on a car something not to be worried about?

Man builds a garage on his property and invites his friends over and they work on their cars. These two dried up cunts say he is running a business and other code violations, and try to shut him down.

I am a 23y/o guy from eastern Canada. I want to get into racing. I'll never make it pro but I want to know where should I start? What are the best and most popular types of racing? I thought about karting, rally and stock cars.
Also, what kind of formation would be useful for a race driver? I thought about joining the reserve as a vehicle mecanic to get some wrenching experience
>>15994045
You seem kinda serious but depending on your location look into ice racing.
Generally studded/non studded classes.
In Minnesota it's kind of a small deal but there are bigger events. Most people run a crx it seems. I haven't bought a car yet but I've been looking out for 4g civics/crx.
Seems like a cheap way to have fun racing. Looked into it after seeing what it would cost to rally competitively.
>>15994371
Ok thanks mate. Will look into autocross. What about karting? Am I too old?
>>15994045
buy a fast car and speed on the streets otherwise good fucking luck

Need your advice /o/, I'm about to buy a Mazda 2 (Scion Ai in the USA), but the fucker is made in Mexico, not even here in Europoor are we free from mexican made cars now. So anyone with a taco mobile can tell how are they holding up over the years?
>>15993832
Or should I just buy an Honda Jazz/Fit, I looks like a retarded egg but at least is made in Japan
Fits are probably the coolest thing Honda has going for a new car right now, but surely you could still find a type R EP3 for similar amounts of money? Even the US Si version is good enough to warrant owning let alone the god machine K20A / K20A2 powered JDM/EDM variants.

I'm fucking tired of hand pumping tires. I have a lot of tires... I count 16 of them between my car, the girlfriend's car, and the motorcycles.
I don't have a compressor and that isn't a very efficient way to inflate one or two tires at a time.
Is there such a thing as a 120v tire inflator that doesn't fucking suck?
>>15993769
buy a compressor dude
that will take you 10 second by tires to inflate
>>15993769
Just change out the summer air for winter air down at the gas station.
That's what normal people do.
>>15993783
Inflator is cheaper and I don't have any air tools, so no need for a compressor.
>>15993806
this is a shitty attempt at bait.
I check the air in my motorcycle tires every 1 to 3 rides. It frequently needs adjusting.
Ok guys, looks like I accidentally bought a flood damaged car.
Is that really that big a deal?
I think the flood was years ago early in its life.
I found white sand/mud looking deposits all under the flooring so the water must have gone up at least that high.
It needs a new transmission and I am wondering if its worth putting one in.
did they poo on every single one?
It'll have electrical problems for the rest of it's life
>>15993745
it's fucked. also those deposits are probably sewerage. when places flood the drains/sewers always overflow and it mixes with the flood water.

How did stancing even become a thing?
Just why
It was just the next evolution of hellaflush which in turn came from OG JDM rice.
And people do it because they can, since no one street races anymore people may as well have fun with impractical setups.
Drift cars usually had more negative camber than normal cars, attention whore retards kept going further and further with that until it was a fashion statement. This of course was only popular among idiots with otherwise unimpressive cars so stance was an outlet to be a special little snowflake; they ended up creating a hugbox, dismissing anybody who uses logic against them as "haters" and thus stacne ""culture"" was born.
The same process minus the stancing part is also why civic drivers are such cancer; for their otherwise unimpressive cars they had to create a circlejerk for validation, got an ego and hostile towards everyone else, including other civic owners who recognize their econobox isn't a sports car.
