what would you drive if you were a billionaire?
volvo s60
every na v12 car
13b AE86
When will F1 get a proper successor, not the turbo piece of shit?
Is there anything or anyone who tried to come close to it with
NA engine and try to break the record 391 record?
1992 - 2016 STILL fastest NA car ever made.
Its about time for a spirit successor dont ya think?
Im utterly unimpressed with normie tier shit octa turbo 1000000 bhp vehicles.
>>15982793
I consider the noble m600 a kind of spiritual successor, even though it's not as fast (at least in top speed)
the mclaren was close enough to the limit for any "better" car to be not that impressive in comparison
the reason the mclaren is legendary is because it was so fast and it is so old
>>15982793
Never. NA is dead, and the manual trans is next.
I legit almost died about 2 weeks ago when some dumb bitch hit me as a pedestrian n sent me flying I ended up in hospital critical condition with internal head bleeding the good news is tho im almost guaranteed a settlement amout 100-300k I plan to mortgage a house n buy a ferrari 458 Italia no joke. Also a JDM supra, r34 skyline and GC8 subie sti to go along with my beautiful JDM Twin Turbo b4 RSK, pic attached.
>>15982778
Yes this all sounds like a reasonable adult thing to do and it's totally smart.
>>15982778
Did you die?
woooow
Help /o/ i think i fucked up my car for good now.
>be me
>empty road
>put it in neutral
>redline engine
>put in first and drop clutch
>do a phatetic wheelspin launch
Now my car vibrates a lot with clutch pushed in.
Did i just kill it?
its a europoor cuckbox btw
>>15982147
hahah
>>15982147
what car ?
you might have fucked your clutch
probably a busted motor mount, nbd
I'm getting ready to build up a custom 3" exhaust from the turbo back on my car. The whole thing as i have it designed right now is going to run me about $1200 in parts alone. I have a hookup thats going to fab it up for me for $500 so that brings the whole thing up to $1700 for exhaust.
Now what bothers me is that nearly NO manufacturer has any kind of data on any of the mufflers they sell. Its infuriating. I called a few manufacturers to talk about things like dB drop and flow numbers and they all said shit like, "You don't race flow benches" and "I've been working in the industry for X years and . . ."
They said all kinds of stuff except for valid technical information.
So i designed it using my best judgement which was based on some fluid dynamics knowledge, a little speaker and sound knowledge and a bit of voodoo here and there.
And you know what? It feels bad. What if i spend $1700 on something and it sounds like shit. . . . ohh well.
Anyone have any good links to a scientific way to design an exhaust without having access to unlimited money and test facilities?
wow
I got a downpipe and exhaust installed for $500 including the materials
no muffler is going to give you a noticeable improvement over another unless its some ancient design or some shit
all you need to know is that straight pipe is shit on anything that isnt turbo and will sound like shit on pretty much everything
use an x pipe for more high end flow or an h pipe for more torque on dual exhaust
don't go too big of a size 2.5-3 inch is good for higher displacement/turbo vehicles 2-2.25 smaller engines
its a piece of pipe not science
unless youre building a header its not complicated
>>15982335
2.0 liter, 350hp + Turbo.
Sound is my main concern.
There isn't much out there on how to design an exhaust.
>>15982371
Magnaflow 12578. You're welcome.
Gasoline or Diesel
which is best?
>>15981757
I'm armchair engineering here, but I think diesel has better energy efficiency.
Not sure though.
>generalizing
Fucking worthless threads like this getting more and more.
>>15981757
Gasoline, diesel is a meme pushed by Germans like VAG as a cleaner alternative which proved false. Only trucks should use it.
>order new blizzak tires
>bring to shop to install
>swap summer and winter wheels
>get home
>notice this
How the fuck does this happen? It goes 1/4 the way around the tire in a straight line.
Increased grip! Lucky!
>>15981711
There's a bur in the mounting or balancing machines. You ought to let the shop know before they destroy any more tires.
>>15981744
Yup check out this sweet burr and extra side grip for hopping curbs
What if Hondas are not stolen as often as people think?
What if the reason for the statistics is insurance fraud?
What if modified hondas are not actually getting stolen but people trying to claim insurance money to get their cash after spending 30k on old 90s hatch backs?
What if the reason hondas go missing so much in mexican areas is because mexicans are often the same people who spend ridiculous money on civics?
So you're just admitting honda attracts fucktards?
>>15981411
Yeah, but all modified cars attract fuck tards of some kind or another.
Yeah the owners strip all the parts off and sell them off and claim it was stolen.
If the shell is rotten then they strip it and torch it and claim the insurance for a built up car.
Nothing Honda specific, it happens with all modded cars.
Any one here own a Pontiac Firebird?
I'm potentially looking at buying one in the near future as a fun weekend car to make up for the short comings of my van.
>Vans aren't exactly what you would call nimble.
>>15980643
I have its hick cousin
Why do people call this a Trans am
>>15982611
Trans Am is the top trim level for the Firebird for most years. Every Trans Am is a Firebird, but not every Firebird is a Trans Am.
Unfortunately it's become common parlance to call every one of them a Trans Am, like how every third gen Camaro is called an IROC even if it's a base model V6.
Would you rather the next Challenger remain a big 4000+ pound landbarge made for burnouts and drag races, or would you rather it go on a diet and try to compete with the Mustang/Camaro in the corners as well?
I'd rather it be reliable....
And a burnout machine.
>>15979034
already have a mustang and camaro. let it fill a niche market.
>>15979305
This, go back to what was cool in the muscle car heyday and build the cheapest fastest quarter mile car for the price.
Leave it a land barge, leave it with a cheap interior, just cram a big engine and big tires in it and make sure it wins every 0-60 quarter mile challenge in its price bracket at each trim level.
Leverage Fiat partnership and claim it took some inspiration from the Italians to class it up, a nice cliche quote 'aerodynamics is for people who can't build engines' and boom, it's relevant again.
Anyone here drive an FJ80 as a dd? I've wanted one for a while, but know these cars are getting up there in years. Anything in particular to look out for?
>>15978736
look for a 96-97,
head gaskets go at 200k
gas mileage is fucking atrocious
check for frame rot
learn how to service birfield joints every 60k
theres a lot of preventative maintenance to do on 80s, see if the PO did any of it and know what youre in for if they didnt
>>15981294
>head gaskets go at 200k
Is this on the 3f-e or the 1fz-fe?
Were they ever available with a manual?
How well does the auto hold up?

/o/, how normal is bucking at low engine speeds when in first gear?
I've got a thoroughly-violated WRX (read: it's a hipster scene girl in her early 30s that probably has life-threatening amounts of baggage that she won't tell me, but she's so fun I can't help but be with her) that has a horrible time trying to move at <1000 RPM. I usually just ride it in neutral and go nuts in and out of gear whenever I'm dealing with stop-go traffic. I'd chalk it up to a bad tune or a lightweight flywheel, but to be honest I learned driving stick by myself (mostly in this thing) and it occurred the other day this thing might just be ridiculously rough and I would never know since I hadn't driven too many other manual cars before going with her.
Not that I mind driving it so delicately, I just wanna know how much sooner she's gonna have a nervous breakdown
>>15978493
I have a car with a lightweight flywheel as well and it hates low RPMs in first gear. I usually just creep in second gear instead, it likes that a lot better.
I wouldn't really call it "bucking" but it just engine brakes HARD as soon as you let off the accelerator and nosedives. Not sure if thats the same as what you're talking about.
That's just what a normal 4 banger does. Struggle just to run because it's an inferior design.
Does it just happen when the engine hasn't warmed up?
Muscle Cars: LARGE cars using large displacement V8s, based on SALOON SEDANS. Built for long range cruising, often seen as luxury cars and were very expensive compared to other cars in their lineup. Dodge Chargers, Roadrunners, Cyclones, Tempest LeMans GTOs, etc
Pony Cars: Compact sports cars with small engine compartments, original sold for their appeal to women and younger males. Originally used for road course racing series like the Trans-Am, rallies and the BTCC. Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Barracuda, etc
As of right now, no modern day current muscle cars exist on the market outside of the Charger (unless you count large German cars like the AMG S63 Coupe).
Also, just because you swapped a large engine into your shitbox doesn't magically make it a muscle car.
This is an Austin Healey, a sports car. It now has a 350cc V8 from GM in it. It is still a sports car. A muscle car is a muscle car from the factory.
>>15978357
What if you had a car with a classic american body style like a nova or duster but came with basic anemic straight six and you swap a v8 into it, does it then become a muscle car?
>>15978357
Muscle cars, Sports cars and Pony cars are not exclusive, and often transcend each genre.
Each on of these terms is completely subjective and open to individual interpretation.
Pic related, is a compact sedan widely considered a muscle car.
