What car is
>reliable
>fair market value under $10,00/
>4 doors
>fuel efficient
>0-60 under 9 seconds
>will last another 6-10 years with little abnormal maintenance or problems
>isn't Korean
>can look great with a tint and some new wheels
Last gen Corolla? Could probably get a good bargain on one.

Corolla
I know it's two doors but CRZ exceeds the rest
>be 20, New England
>have license, no car
>have motorcycle and permit
I refuse to spend another winter with no wheels. What should I look for, and avoid, for a used car $3000 or less?
Every ad I see on CL for a used car, I get suspicious that it's only being sold because it needs some kind of ridiculously expensive repair.
I live near the ocean which is constantly high humidity so rust is a huge problem.
I kind of want a beater that I can fix and maintain so parts availability and affordability is important.
What kind of car problems should I avoid when buying used? Every cheap car ad on CL has something wrong with it, I just can't tell if it's something to run far away from or something easily/cheaply fixed.
I also guess complex electronics can't be avoided? On my dual sport I've got electric start and lights. Air cooled single cylinder so no monkey business with sensors and shit.
Could an older car, say with a V8, assuming there's little rust, from the 70's or 80's be a viable option?
lmao
I really do want this thread to be legit

Hi /o/, what's your opinion on people who use motocross bikes as street bikes?
They make me wish I could use a buggy as a street car.
The gear ratios are incredibly short because dirt bikes are engineered for their task which is offroad use only. You will need to change the gearing at the very least. The stock riding position and suspension isn't great for high speed either. Finally if you keep the throttle pinned at top speed for prolonged ammounts of time the engine will need rebuilds every 10-20 hours which is normal for dirtbike engines if they are either abused on roads or pushed to the limit on the track.
Basically, dirtbikes are not worth it for road use unless you really want to do a supermoto conversion and be an edgy fuck.

not all dirt bikes are 2 stroke, anon
>CUCV vs K30
I want one of these trucks as a DD and as a weekend 4x4/overlander. Plus I have a soft spot for squarebodies in general. Either way I'm planning on a 4" lift and 37" HMMWV tires, trimming as needed.
CUCV
>6.2 Diesel/TH400
>4.56 gears
>Detroit locker, sometimes front ltd slip
>No A/C
The worst part about these is that they turn 3k rpms at 70 (with the 37s) and redline is at 3600. This would surely suck ass. The TH400 is a beast of a trans but has shit ratios. Would HAVE to swap to an OD trans to make this a viable highway truck, probably a NV4500.
The good part is dat 6.2, I know it's low on power but it's reliable and gets decent mileage for what it is. Also, they're all the same option-wise and relatively low miles so you know what you're getting, plus you can get them from online gov auctions pre-inspected, making it much easier to find and buy,
K30
>Diesel uncommon, but available with 4spd manual
>Might have A/C
>Better highway RPMs
A civilian K30 would have higher miles, be much harder to find, probably cost more for a decent one, and would have to deal with all the usual Craigslist BS, but would be highway capable as-is unlike the CUCV which would need work right away. A craigslist truck (either one) might already have some upgrades, but might have also been previously owned by a teenage coal-roller that thrashed it.

I read that as "cuck" for a second
i would love to have one of theses trucks but as you said the engine and trans are garb. a 4bt swap would be awesome in one of these
Is it really? Is it?
No.
No
BMWs have become bloated, slow, overpriced glorified shitboxes.
ITT: civic owners and bus riders saying NO REEEEEEEEE
Why do RWD cars have shit gas mileage? I can't find one at all that can get more than 30mpg.
>>15998883
Because rwd costs more and is considered a luxury so rwd cars usually have bigger engines and more power. Even with 100% like for like engine and power rwd would weigh slightly more.
2.3 powered fox body
Hell my Turbo Coupe got 30 on the highway if you kept out of the boost.

What about city driving, what's the gas mileage on it? Manual or auto?

This is the Veloce model with the 2.0 280 hp turbo AWD, it has specific bumpers and in this case the Quadrifoglio wheels (optional)
What is the best 4 cylinder turbo engine for a swap on the market today?
Is Ecoboost the best bang for the buck or is there better for a comparable price?
>>15998568
>4 cylinder turbo
>not superior 5 cylinder turbo
>>15998568
Swap into what? What criteria is this "best swap" consisting of? Could you be a little more clear and a bit less ambiguous?
>>15998585
it's better to keep in the same dimensional targets that the engineers had for the suspension/chassis of the car
switching from 4 cylinder to 4 cylinder makes more sense
What's /o/'s opinion on the K5?
I want an SUV, but not full on soccer mom car with 4wd. That removable top is awesome, and the fact that it's a Chevy 350 means it'll be piss easy to work on.
Thoughts?
Personally I LOVE these things
Seriously thought i was looking at a truck from GTA.

Your pic related is about 7 mpg's city, 8 highway.
General rule is losing 1mpg per inch taller tire over stock.
Stock would have been 27" and anywhere from 11-17 mpg (depending on year).
Parts are easy to find.
Simple and easy to work on.
Biggest issue is finding one that's not rusted to shit.
ITT: How do you drive and what car?
Pic related of course.

Hey /o/ - does anyone have any experience with car wraps? Are they cheaper than full paint jobs?
What's the drawbacks?
Any pics of full wrap jobs you guys have done?
They are cheaper than full paint jobs
They do not last for more than a couple years even with immaculate care.
Almost no one does full wrap jobs by themselves. It's very tricky to get all the lines just right and have no extra bubble or anything.
The benefit of a wrap is that you can have a shinny gold ferarri but don't have to paint it that color because let's be honest, it's actually red.
>>15997832
Thanks for reply.
I wasn't planning on doing it myself, there's a local shop that does some really nice full body wraps.
If the cost is MUCH much cheaper than a paint job, I wouldn't mind replacing it every couple years.
...interesting info, thanks.
You can wrap or plastidip but it'll never ever look as good as paint. It's obvious and sort of tacky. If you want to see your car in a different color then sure but please don't take it to shows or think it's show quality.
