Where do I start? Is he as good as the memes suggest?

in the heart of the heart of the country
I got into him before finding this board. I recommend Middle C as a good primer. I've read every fiction book of his and I'm in a minority of his fans I think when I say he is a bit uneven but even in the work I don't like the most you can feel a lot of the potential.
The Tunnel is probably one of the most vile books I have ever read, and it's not disgusting in gore or shock factor orshitbut how much every person can relate to Kohler at least sometime in their lives. And it's pretty insightful and critical to so-called "redpill" ideologies you can find on this board and if you're into that
Not an easy read in the prose sense though, especially the first 100 pages, recommend you read Omensetter's Luck or In the Heart of the Heart first
I've come to figure out that about 60% of posts on /lit/ are shitposting and memeposting and garbage. (Including this post). Almost nobody actually reads, and there is very little serious discussion about books. I originally liked it here because I was turned onto some good books, but the ratio of shitposting is just too high. Either the amount of shitposters has increased, or I'm just getting too old for this shit.
Is there a literature forum somewhere where the ratio of shitposting is like.. 20% or less?

I think you should try reddit :^)

Lol if you think what's going on here is in some way 'superior' to reddit, then you are delusional.
Can anyone recommend me a short story or even a novel that's as genuinely terrifying and hopeless as IHNMAIMS?
This short story by Ellison was truly horrific. I need something full of dread and terror and helplessness. I need my fix.

If everyone has some sort of disorder, then isn't not having a disorder the disorder?
>>8750503
an empty universal
>>8750503
Everyone can be labeled as having a mental disorder because psychiatry is bullshit. That said, Timothy Leary's Interpersonal Circumplex had a section for "hypernormal" which might be the sort of thing you're thinking about (excessive normality as a disorder in itself).
POST MODERNISM I TELL YA! THE NEO MARXISTS ARE BRAINWASHING US WITH POST MODERNISM SO THEY CAN MAKE US INTO THE USSR! THE SJWS ARE TRYING TO INSTALL NIHILISM IN THE SCHOOLS TO MAKE US LOSE HOPE! LOL HAVE YOU EVER READ THE GULAG ARCHIPELAGO?

You should finish it, "The sun is but a morning star" is one of my favorite concluding lines in all of literature. I sometimes repeat it to myself when I'm falling asleep. Walden is an absolute masterpiece, don't understand why so many people don't like it. Maybe its narrator is too flowery and stilted for modern readers.

Alright /lit/ I'm going to my local used bookstore tomorrow and I'm looking for some good scifi and fantasy books. I was going to get Dune las time I was there but they only had the sequels, are any of them good?
They're alright, but I wouldn't read them unless you've read the first.
You just won't understand what's going on.
Also check out William Gibsons sprawl trilogy, and most anything by Philip K. Dick will be good as far as scifi goes. They're entry level, but by no means bad.
>>8750454
I don't mind entry level. I may as well be entry level anyway, I don't read as much as I think I do.
>>8750430
Is pic-related your local bookstore?
Well done.
What program did you use to draw this?

Summer holidays are approaching and I will have all the time in the work to read books. I plan on reading a whole lot of books these holidays - including Ulysses.
But before reading it, I hear that its better to read other stuff beforehand. All I know of is that you should read Portrait of the Artist and The Odyssey. What else?
>>8750417
before reading it, realize that reading these books won't make you an enlightened being. You will just be a guy that happens to have read a book. No one cares.
>>8750429
>Implying i'm not reading to impress girls.
Jakes on you, pal.
~Ideally~ the entire western canon. But the two you mentioned and Hamlet are the biggest. Being familiar with the bible, Plato, Aristotle, and Aquinas help too.
Anyone else here Started w/ the Greeks? It's been at least 5 months and I'm still starting with the Greeks.
>>8750392
What are you reading? What have you read?
>>8750394
>what are you reading?
the texts of early greek philosophy the complete fragments
>what have you read
everything on the start with the greeks chart, (the dark blue one), everything by plato, I'm on his last work laws just started reading that on the side, also took an introduction to philosophy course online (read a bunch of sep articles)
>>8750392
If that pic is supposed to tie in with Zeno, it's not the right series
Just finished this, pretty sure it was a masterpiece, won't know until further digestion
