How do I regain my attention span in order to read books? I've been f5'ing 4chan for so many years that I now find it difficult to read anything that's more than a few paragraphs long, and I often find myself re-reading sentences or entire pages over and over because my brain turns to mush and I find myself unable to comprehend the words.

I basically get all my reading done in daily 20-30 minutes bursts when I'm taking a shit.

I've tried blocking the internet but all blocking methods have a workaround so I guess we're just fucked

>how can I force myself to do something I want to do
Just give up, you pathetic brainlet. You need someone on a Korean fishery website to tell you to practice reading? Just read what you want to read when you want to read it.

Find a good book, for fucks sake. If you can't, then maybe reading is not for you and you should just lean into evolving into the worker drone class of future epochs.

i think the bigger issue here is taking 20-30 minutes to take a shit. Go get that checked out my good man

Just bought a few faulkner books and I don't know what to expect. I'm a senior in highschool and I don't read too frequently. I know they will probably be a challenge, but is it worth it?
>What are your opinions on Faulkner?

General Faulkner discussion as well

Avoid Faulkner's less fiction-oriented works. As I Lay Dying is probably the essential highschool Faulkner work, some of his Southern Gothic horror may be of interest as well.
Denser texts like The Sound and The Fury and Absalom! Absalom! will likely require guided study in order to fully make sense, while more "grounded" works like The Unvanquished suffer heavily from Faulkner's suffocating prose (as a student greatly interested in Southern Civil War heritage, TU was one of the only texts I outright dropped in highschool. It is mind numbing).

Keep always in mind that Faulkner was a man to spend months at a time developing settings and characters that may appear for only a chapter and suffers, to a less notable degree, many of the flaws Tolkien does in his attempts to translate this hyperrealism to text. He also infamously shit talked Hemingway's writing style for not requiring a dictionary in order to be legible, so that tells you a lot about his own style.

just want to say i appreciate this well-considered post, keep it up
>>
>>8924672
Thanks for the insight, I really appreciate it. One of the few I bought was absalom absalom. I did a little bit of research before purchasing it and it is probably the one I'm most excited about reading. I'll be sure to keep a dictionary handy too!

The idea that people have to "earn" charity by conforming to some aesthetic ideal is one of the reasons why society is shite, even the supposedly "noble" aesthetic ideal of reading a book that we have deemed particularly wise or worthy. If you want the homeless to read more, then just skip the middle-man of money and give them books. Or sit down with them and tell them the story you think they should hear. But that would involve spending time with them and actually recognizing their humanity, wouldn't it? God forbid you're forced to break the cycle of the contemporary capitalist plenary indulgence of throwing money at a problem in the hopes that it will just buy an answer...

Sorry, OP, that got a little out of hand. But my point stands.

Anarchist lit general, or is there anyone familiar with the writings of both Kropotkin and Bookchin, and could you go into their commonalities and differences. And which do you think I should start with of their titles.

>His book A Child called "It" describes from his viewpoint about the severe abuse he suffered as a child. He writes how his mother was physically and emotionally abusive towards him from ages 4 to 12. In his book he describes how his mom starved him, forced him to drink ammonia, stabbed him in the stomach, burned his arm on a gas stove, and forced him to eat his own vomit. He mentioned that his father was not active in resolving or stopping the conflicts between Pelzer and his alcoholic mother. In 1973 at age 12 he was sent to a foster family. In the book he uses pseudonyms to reference his relatives.

Pretty much.

Don't forget the cherrypicked historical examples that are used as the basis for the self-contradicting 'laws'.
The book starts to get really repetitive around Law 30ish, at that point the author just pads it with as many historical anecdotes as possible, some having a tenuous relationship with the truth.
