Swiss gun thread?
I'm STILL waiting on Sig to send me my iron sights. What the fuck?
You are the military dictator of a hypothetical nation in the Andes and Patagonia composed of modern day Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and parts of Argentina. You're up against the most powerful nation on the planet, the USA, as well as a coalition of various NATO nations as well as your angry neighbors offering varying support. Your country is armed with a mix of outdated NATO and Warsaw Pact equipment varying from Shilkas, Stingers, Strelas, RPG 7s, upgraded T55, T64s, T72s a few T80s and M60A3s. You have 3 months to prepare before the coalition attempts to wipe your puny nation off the face of the Earth. However, thanks to the high altitude and extremely well protected geography this prevents most artillery and helicopters that your opponent has from being used. Limiting their mobility exclusively to ground units and their support to planes. How will you survive the coming storm?
*bonus points if you can figure out how to use the tall hills and altitude to your advantage*

>Jungle and mountain warfare
>My army is full of ruthless guerilla soldiers
>funding the war with all the cocaine I produce and sell in America
>hit enemy in many ambushes
>booby trap all paths, roads etc. that lead to my mountain bases
>deep cave systems that prevent air support effectiveness
>psychological warfare
>get much liberal media to cover the war
>demoralize enemies home front
>protesters against their involvement
>inspire my own people
>mfw America and NATO get BTFO
>mfw my South American mountain war is won!
Make friends with my neighbors and try to make a cross-border insurgency work.
I spend the three months setting up cells for said insurgency, moving money and material across the border, and moving equipment from supply depots to clandestine caches accessible to the insurgents.
If my neighbors don't like me, I might have a bad time.

How much 5.56?
Why should I buy an AR15 over a battle rifle? What distinct advantages do they have over, say, a G3 or FAL clone?
Own all three mentioned. The big difference. Egos. Easy as fuck to use an ar
>>31378636
Fucking ergonomics...fuck this phone
Tbh, you'll probably have more accuracy out of a good AR than a FAL, or G3.
Ammo is cheaper, mags usually arent,
and more available after market stuff.
It you have the money for ammo I'd get a 308 raifu, I don't like my AR. Wish I had an fal, I've talked to plenty of people who hunt with them.
Realistically, is there any way they could have won?
My friend seems to be of the opinion that if they had caught our aircraft carriers at Pearl Harbor and themselves had invested more effort into producing aircraft carriers instead of battleships, then the Japanese could have steamrolled their way through the Pacific and brought the war to the Homeland.
While I think it would have given them a considerable advantage for a while, I personally believe that a small island nation couldn't possibly contend with our massive infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities for long. I believe there were things the Japs could have done to prolong the war a few years, but realistically they never could have won.
>>31378483
The best they could've done was force us to focus on two fronts, which is basically all they did. Our main forces were engaged with Germany, they Pacific theater was more tangential
>>31378483
>Realistically, is there any way they could have won?
Win a war when Army and Navy hate each other and exist in completely different realities - impossible.
>>31378483
fuck off, you made same fucking thread last night
Why do slug guns have such an extremely long twist rate? Wouldn't you want an extremely short twist rate to be accurate since there's so much mass your throwing? And why do most battle rifles I see have a 1:12 twist rate? I see more ARs with a shorter twist rate. And what the fuck about handguns? They don't even have a full twist
>>31378298
>Wouldn't you want an extremely short twist rate to be accurate since there's so much mass your throwing?
some slug rounds have their own threading so they can be used in smoothbore shotguns.
shotguns ration aren't thigh because most of shotgun users use pellets and threading inside a barrel cause extreme spread when using pellets and so make the shotgun unable to be used against targets past ~20 meters.
battle rifle is an other case because of the speed of projectiles, assault rifles twist rate need to be tighter so the wind have less impact on the round ( wich is lighter than battle rifles bullets ) while for battle rifles it's not neccessary since the round has enough mass, speed and twist to travel without so much problem
handgun have enough twist rate so their rounds can be used for a short range engagement with great ballistic.
to make it clear
>not everything is about accuracy also firearms and ballistics are complicated as fuck
>>31378298
Bullet stability is primarily determined by the bullet's length relative to its diameter. Longer for diameter bullets require faster twists.
Shotgun slugs are extremely short for their diameter so don't need much twist to stabilize. Most "battle rifles" are 0.308 bores and a 1-10" twist will stabilize almost all bullets in that bore size and definitely all issued ones.
TDP built ARs have high twist rates due to some niche military bullets that need 1-7" to stabilize. 1-8" will cover anything a civilian can fit into the mag.
>>31378298
you want a bullet to spin but it can spin too fast. The mass of the bullet isn't perfectly in line with the barrel nor the aerodynamic center. With really expencive stuff it will be closer. but that is why a bullets will have a sweet spot in twist rate.
i'm moving to Cocoa Beach in about two months, i've been into guns for a long time, never shot any though. anyone live around there that can teach me the ropes? after i do buy some of my own, what's the best local ranges? places that host two-gun matches?
Florida general also i guess
(pic unrelated)
Hey, cocoa here, we have a meetup this weekend and I host it. Send me an email: [email protected]
One of the best places to shoot is off of satellite blvd. Its pirvste land that people go shooting on, so there are no RO's or fees and you just do whatever you want.
>>31378222
I've got private land

My grandpa was lifelong pro-funz.
>Went to CBI Theater of Operations.
>Brought back Kachin-style Dha sword (Dha Ma), and a kukri that he traded for.
>Helped local headhunters and natives by shooting monkeys with a Thompson/M1 Carbine.
>Taught my father to use guns.
>Last went hunting around the age of 75 (or somewhere in his 70s).
>His last deer was taken with a 300 yard shot. When my dad got to it, he couldn't find any entry or exit points. Until he looked at the eye.
Ive never fired subsonic 9mm, only sub sonic 22lr.
So the 22 could cycle the 10/22 i was firing them out of. Can 9mm cycle something like a hi power? Or a cz?
Would this be viable for HD to avoid
>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW
Should cycle just fine as long as your pistol isn't a saiga
>>31377835
>Would this be viable for HD to avoid
>>EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW
subsonic 9mm will be quieter than standard ammo but its still going to be loud as fuck and damage your hearing unless youve got a suppressor
>>31377936
But would it be less damaging? Like i said ive never fired it, just the 22s which were near silent so i didnt know how loud the 9mm would be
Why do people open carrying frequently look like pic related on the left, when any civilized person knows they should be using something like on the right?

Hi /k/ new fag here i need help, i have a friend who wish make a travel for that now hi is selling some guns from his collection , well he offert me a argie PARA-FAL for $3000 , i never have a gun before, so i take the offert or not?
>>31377667
I don't know if that's a typical price for one, but an FAL, while cool, isn't typically a good beginners rifle.
>>31377667
That's twice as much as you should pay for a FAL in a para configuration
>>31377960
Maybe buy a AR and upgrate them?
