First off, FALs aren't a terribly reliable design. It's really not meant to handle a full power rifle cartridge like 7.62 NATO. Every FAL I've seen/shot from a frankenstein IMBEL Century build to a top-quality DSA are all prone to stoppages from time to time just because of the design, whether it's clean or not.

The G3 is known for reliability but the receivers are prone to dents (the G3 kit even has a dent remover), you have to make sure the bolt headspaces correctly or it will kaboom, it has a horrible trigger in any configuration and isn't terribly ergonomic.

The AR, on the other hand, is a solidly reliable design with cheap ammo, cheap mags (though G3 mags are cheap too), unlimited versatility, and decades of refinement up to modern cutting edge standards.

That said, I'd take an LRB M14 over any AR any day of the week.

TL;DR either get an AR15, or if you must go battle rifle get an M14 or M1 Garand

I got rid of my PTR91 for an AR15. the battle rifles are just too damn heavy unless you are using it for a stationary weapon with a bipod, the AR can have twice the amount of ammo on you, with faster moving bullets, and a lighter gun
