Usage of nukes would mean a complete loss of credibility. You may win the battle and inflict a large and bloody wound, but you've got to keep using nukes in order to "win". If you plan on shooting innawoods/desert or basically anywhere not the range, I'd recommend the mildot. Mils and mildot reticules are alot easier to work with when precise distances aren't known and you are going to do some estimations. The equations are a bit simpler too

OP there is so much to learn and if you;re smarter than most of us you will take some time and learn a bunch before you buy your first scope. By the time you start to hit targets at +800 yards or so you are going to need an expensive piece of glass or at least want one.

The old timer who ends his videos with "and that's the way it is" has a couple excellent videos concerning buying and mounting scopes.

This is one of the best you tube channels for distance shooting. Goodluck and be ready to spend a shitload of time getting good.

What rifle and scope do you have?

book - Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting by Bryan Litz. One of the best 30-40 bucks you'll ever spend.

ballistic calculator - Kestrel 5700

get yourself a DOPE book, you'll need it.

drop the BDC scope and get something with mildots or MOA-dots (whatever that would be). if you plan to shoot at varying ranges, get something with FFP. If you're only shooting from a bench at max magnification all the time, second focal plane will do fine. get something with externally adjustable turrets that are very tactile. research reticles there are too many out there to list. I'm a fan of the MSR personally as it's what's on my rifle but plenty of people love the classic simple mil dot and there are those who swear by the Horus reticle.

Since people seem woefully unaware. Civilian pay grades do not map to military pay grades. GS-9 is not good pay coming out of the military.

Yes visual camouflage is relevant. Just because you also need to worry about thermal doesn't mean you stop worrying about visual.

Not all insurgencies operate or operate exclusively on blending into populations, and will require camouflage on the battlefield. Also, in the reverse of a military force keeping tabs on an insurgency, ground level troops doing overwatch are still relevant and require visual camouflage. Also force-on-force combat.
