Rotating Bolt (AK, AR-15, SVT)
Vs.
Tilting Bolt (FAL, SKS, SVT-40, Garand)
The tilting bolt was quite common in mid 19th century firearms, but has since been replaced in most countries by arms outfitted with rotating bolts. Is the tilting bolt outdated? Is the rotating bolt a superior design? Have we left the proven tilt bolt behind for no damn good reason?

Tilting bolt is very difficult to consistently make accurate. For every 2moa FAL out there 100 5moa ones.

Also the Garand is not tilting bolt. It's an exposed AK desu.
>>31737231
Rotating bolt is stronger, allowing higher pressure cartridges and longer life of the firearm
>>31737256
Is this why the SKS is not accurate?
>tfw really wanted one, but I'm interested in semi-auto fun that can drive tacks
>>31737256
You're incorrect.
>>31737303
The SKS IS accurate, 2-3 moa or leas is common.
>>31737256
What causes this? Is it just that the rotating bolt has more contact area with the receiver or something?
>>31737303
It's not accurate 'cause it's made by Russian peasants. Still recommend getting one though.

What would a similarly priced PSA AR (if I bought the lower and upper separately) offer against the SKS? From what I am reading ARs are really the better deal going on right now.
>but I do feel like I would be able to hug the SKS a little more tightly at night
>>31737231
>Garand
>tilting bolt
you are a special kind of stupid
>>31737403
You would be right, unless for the nostalgia or collectability an AR is better in terms of form and fucntion.
>>31737439
except you can't shoot through a guard rail with an AR
>>31737466
surely a .223 from an AR will penetrate a guard rail?
>>31737303
The tilting bolt isn't really the limiting factor for the SKS. It's more Slav build quality with large clearances and Slav ammo.
if those things were fixed, then the bolt design would be a minor hindrance.
>>31737403
Get the AR and snag some wood furniture if you want a classic rifle.
>>31737791
It will out of an slr-106 but not out of the mini-14 with same barrel twist and ammo (gas maybe? I could really fuck shit up with 5.56 and .223 with that ak)
>>31737231
>Having a gas system
Lol
