Where were you, /k/?
What were you doing when you heard that Mercury 7 had made his most daring manuver of all, and gone off to visit that glorious launch facility in the sky?

Read the fucking sticky
>>32257823
So I had a ex dragoon mosin that I bought a while back, worked fine until you fired it. Nasty, borderline unusable sticky bolt after firing a round, you damn near had to take a rubber mallet to it.
So I took some rubbing compound and a 20ga bore brush to the chamber, and decided to polish some up of the other areas of the bolt too, following this guys video just about to the T: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F49mV3wj2HM
So once I polished everything up, I tore her down and sprayed everything with bore blaster gun aerosol, and wiped everything with a microfiber cloth. Then I reassembled, but I had a problem. Now when I re assemble, when I dry fire it and open the bolt once, it's stiff. Twice, it's almost impossible to open, three times and I have to take a rubber mallet to it.
So I thought "Well maybe I just didn't get all of the grime and polish out of the parts" so I boiled the broken down bolt, and I even boiled the back of the receiver where the polish would have come in contact with it, and left it in there for 5-7 minutes each.
It's still doing it. I went from a sticky bolt on firing to a sticky bolt all the time. Fuck's sake, I just want this gorgeous gun to work. Any ideas?
Soak the bolt parts in mineral spirits or kerosene for a few days to dissolve that shit.
Next time don't fuck up.
Congratulations op. You have baked in cosmoline ans/or rusty and pitted chamber.
Boiling isnt hot enough to melt the bake. You need to let it sit fully submerged in a solvent for a few days.

Chamber and bore are both good. Thanks, I'll try that

Alright guys, I'm back. Sorry about the break, as I had a rather exhausting physics exam. So, now that this project has garnered some attention, and quite the contributions it's time to iron out some wrinkles. The number one issue I saw mentioned in the last thread was the scope and intent of what the project is. There seemed to be some division, that I felt was more a disagreement on a core idea: What /k/ means.
I'm not gonna spend my time defending any position. Suffice to say, I personally believe it is not just weapons, but being a /k/ommando. The person using the weapon, and the scenarios they use them in. You may disagree...that's fine. Just don't shit up our thread with why you think so.
To that end, we are gonna have a shit ton of weapons related info in the project, but also combat, gear, and survival info. Does that include the apocalypse style information??? In my opinion yes.
Does that mean we should have close to 200 gigs of technology, history, and philosophy?? Absolutely FUCKING NOT.
>But anon, the ar/k/ had X and Y, stop trying to do the same thing.
Fuck off, we're not doing the same thing. And if you wanna be autistic, guess what, you don't have to do a damn thing about it. Because ultimately, I would love your help, but no one on a Kazakhstani cattle castration forum is forcing you to do anything.
So for those that agree, or maybe disagree but still want to be a part moving forward, there's some things that need deciding below.
(Side note: I've got two exams on Friday, and my last final on Monday, so on those days I can't interact much, alongside the fact that I'm busy with all this work lol, so don't fret komrades)
My important posts from the last thread will be the next pic related. Don't forget, we are still in the accumulation/discussion phase, send me some shit or yell at me here:

An issue that I'm considering is the explosives issue.
I personally was unaware that it was illegal to disseminate the explosives info within the U.S. , and am uncomfortable breaking the law.
>inb4 pussy/cuck/etc.
I want fellow kommandos to be well equipped in any event.
But I am not willing to risk 20 years in prison to do so. Being a rebel against unconstitutional law is best done in the public eye, not just passing out shit on anonymous platform.
That doesn't mean it shouldn't be included in the final work, but simply that I will not be the one to include it.
The person running murdercube can simply move the explosives file from the original dokument into the file that we are creating.
>I repeat, It can, should, and in all likelihood WILL BE included. I just won't be doing it.
This is not something that's really up for debate. I am very sorry if you were looking forward to a cleaned up anarchists cookbook, but DESU it's not that hard.
So, information about the project and some decisions that need crowd input are the following:
As of right now, I have not deleted anything from the Original file, with a good bit of the contributions added,it is roughly 65 GB.
Most contributions have been determined as to whether or not they are going to be added. Some things from the original dok are still zipped. There is still a lot of trimming and consolidating, but that's small potatoes at the moment.
55 GB is WITH all the videos from the original do/k/ument. Without ANY of the video files, it shrinks to a MEASLEY ~28 GB, and that's with trimming to do.
So you might be thinking, anon WTF, get that shit out. The two main offenders are Magpul Dynamics(23 GB) and the AGI(14 GB) with some random leftovers.
I am getting rid of AGI(Gunsmithing. Like not just at home gunsmithing) for certain.
Magpul Dynamics is a different story. They have ~7 hours of handgun training and concealed carry courses, ~5 hours on shotgun training, and ~8 on carbines. That's 20+ hours of competent teaching, with drills and other helpful tools for each section. My question to all of you is do you think it should be included in the final package.
I'd rather not. Things to remember:
>Anons all over may not have good internet. We'd be cutting the size in half
>The information contained within is pretty extensively covered on youtube.
>File sharing would be way less strained, meaning more likely long term seeding
In the last thread I mentioned having 3 different editions: --Text. --Infographs/PDf & Text. --Videos included.
I'm still up for doing that, but only if you guys are that concerned with the videos.
Here's a strawpoll to give your opinion.
So, we either do or don't have an edition with videos. That's a big decision. Here are some more minor issues, and stawpolls for each.
>1. What is the maximum file size you are willing to download? (Hint: This will determine how "harshly" I cut material from the original.)
Pic related is the current top-level setup, with "skills" underneath survival.
>2. Should there be a /k/ommando section, that contains a fitness, lockpicking, and more trivial shit (art of manliness/how not to be a fuckup type stuff)
It would be less than 1 GB
>www.strawpoll.me/11830226
>3. Should I extend my work to include text files of all the "Sniper101" youtube video captions.
This would likely take 1 extra week unless I could find a quicker way to cut out the caption timing in the text files. But anons, that shit is good.
Decisions I have made or am very likely to make that you can talk about below:
1. I will not be able to download the ar/k/ after all, I checked our data usage per month and it's too high to manage. If someone wants to put up a MEGA with individual folders available for download, that'd be amazing.
2. There will be a relatively small /k/ section in all non-text only editions. Not gay shit. Stuff like stalker challenge, state konstitutions, gadsdens, etc. Maybe a few songs or relevant images. It will be small, x<500 MB.
3. I'm getting rid of a majority of the "patents" and other documents that date from before even the 90s.
4. I'm cutting the History section, no one seems to care, and no one has sent me anything.

is it hard to resell guns for what you paid? do they depreciate immediately like a new car would?
It depends.
>>32256964
unlike cars you don't have to wait 100 years for them to be worth anything, gun values steadily rise but it still takes years
>>32256964
>is it hard to resell guns for what you paid? do they depreciate immediately like a new car would?
for exactly what you paid its hard unless you find an idiot. expect to lose 20-25%% for most guns. there are exceptions. if a gun is discontinued it increases in value unless its complete pile of shit. the guns that depreciate the most are pumpshotguns you buy a 500 or 870 for 300-400 new its suddenly worth 200 used since pumps are common as fuck. other guns that dont hold value are budget handguns in the 300 range like the sd9ve,canik, or ria which instantly drop to around 2/3s used. parts kit builds like franken ar m4gerys dont hold value either.
that said a factory gun thats bone stock is generally easy to sell at around 80% of new price.
if you want to waste money you upgrade your gun by tacticooling it with ati or something. then the gun is worth less than it would be if it was stock and you are out all the money on the furniture.
Does /k approve of the widow's kiss? Would a platform like that work in reality. Would it be worth trying to make a similar system?

Steyr Hahn? Nice
Why haven't there been more attacks on satellite?
All it would take is pushing get a cheap HPA to its max and pointing it at a satellite to burn out the Recievers and there's no real way to know who did it.
All satellite information is available online. Simple trigonometry will give you the right look angle to burn out any satellite.
Why doesn't ISIS or China do this to American satellites?
>>32256298
Because if someone did that it would be considered an act of war and repercussions would be commensurate to the damage done.
Information and communication are both key to national defense and taking out satellites disrupts both of those, ergo, an attack on a nation's satellite network is an attack on that nation's capacity to defend itself.
>>32256326
But there's no way to confirm who did it.
And why would ISIS care about declarations of war?
>>32256298
Because satellites have input overload safety systems. They are literally billion-dollar assets, not easily replaced either. And do you have any idea how MUCH radio frequency energy you'd have to generate to scorch a Comsat, particularly a geosynchronous one

Is there a good way to reliably increase effective range? I read somewhere that the sks had an effective range of 440 yrds but 7.62x39mm has less than that? Is this correct? and if so how to I maximize that 440yrd max range (or even increase it)?
>>32255810
Longer barrel (more velocity), accurization, optics, optimal projectiles.
>>32255810
There isn't really any good way of doing that, short of maybe a lighter bullet with a higher powder charge, but that's it's own can of worms.
Really, 7.62x39mm was never a great long range cartridge.
If you want more range, either move to a .223 rifle, or move up to a .308 battle rifle, like a PTR91 (H&K G3 clone), fairly affordable and a good entrylevel BR.
Or if a self-loading action isn't required, a bolt-action rifle in .270 has quite a lot of reach.
>>32255846
Finding a longer barrel for an SKS isn't going to be a cakewalk.
