I know tracing is frowned upon within the art community, but can you actually learn anything from it if you tried
Anatomy tracings from a photo are a great way to solidify your knowledge of anatomy. Tracing something to create a finished image however is just straight up gay and looks awful more often than not.

One thing is mindlessly tracing, and the other is tracing while taking mental notes of your subject.
As always, is better to break everything down into simple forms.
tell me what u think xd
i dont rly like how i made it but i want to get better.

Nevermind just leave you literal infant.
Just started art school on Tuesday. Why is everyone unfriendly as fuck? This sounds weird but how I I make friends at an art school? Everyone seemed too shut in and depressed.
Quote Loomis to break the ice and stop making shitty threads, you autist
Most artists are kind of shut in losers. Don't worry.

Are you a cute girl?
I'm getting a present for a friend and want to give him some personalised stickers, but all the websites I can find only offer rectangle-shaped stickers in particular sizes.
Can anyone tell me where to look? Is this the right board?

Why is he so terrible?
Because he hasn't left his comfort zone in over a decade. He's still a good teacher of software nuances and his tutorials are solid overall because he's a very clear and articulate speaker, he just won't improve as an illustrator in general until he grows some balls.
No desire whatsoever to improve

"I didn't like too much how things were going at some point in my life and I was feeling quite miserable, especially after hearing some
indirect news about Aida and some guy. I closed the door to a short period of experimenting and positive excitement and opened the door to a long period of anger and despair. Bah, maybe not so long."

anyone in the /ic/ ever used black ink? if so what did you think about it. i fooled around with it a little bit on a friends computer but didn't use it much. anyone have any images they did with it?
It's a gimmicky program that lacks a shit ton of the basic features that would make it useful for drawing. It's an interesting brush engine but nothing more.
>>2670398
thats kinda what i thought about it to, i dont even think the version i was using had a fill tool, they may have updated that though cus it was a while ago.
Why is charcoal such a pain in the ass to use?
One of my assignments in college a few semesters ago was to "draw using your kneaded eraser". Which meant covering the page in charcoal, pitch black.
The charcoal/eraser did not want to work at all, no amount of kneading would make it any lighter.
>>2670343
kek you're not supposed to cover it pitch black for that assignment, just do a middle grey value and don't grind it into the paper, you can even even take some powdered charcoal and just gently rub it over the paper with a kleenex or use a brush
>>2670347
Thats what she told us to do was to make the page pitch black. And use paper towel to cover it as well.
>>2670348
well if it's pitch black you're gonna have trouble erasing it well unless you use an electric eraser or have a brand new kneaded one that you really work hard with, but you might destroy the paper a bit
just try some different technique on some small scraps of paper before covering an entire sheet like that and see what works or doesn't
Does anyone know the person who did these? I saw them on a /b/ drawthread a few days ago
why you won't ask there, it's blushchan, he even posted his tumblr.
Is there a tutorial available that shows how you can copy Ruan Jia's PS brush settings for SAI?
did he change it again?
>>2669161
obviously none when you're asking for something that's very specific. also sai is shit for brush customization.
dont use SAI how about that
its a garbage program

I dunno, but I assume it happened when someone asked a better artists than you are for their blog while your work was being ignored. Just a wild guess.
People generally seem to agree that MS is best for illustration and PS best for editing. Why is that?
Software thread, I guess.
clip studio has really great presets and tools for illustration and comics work. technically you can emulate some of them in photoshop, but it's the sort of thing where most everything Just Works out of the box with clip studio while photoshop's brushes and presets are so horrifically horrendous that "omg what brushes u use!!" is such a blight on art spaces because you mostly can't draw or paint without getting somebody else's brushes and presets. clip studio has built in pen stabilization and a lot of other thinkgs that make drawing a lot less of a headache out of the box that photoshop doesn't. a lot of what makes clip studio great is that it has so many things tailored to actually drawing, illustrating, and creating comics whereas adobe doesn't even pretend to give a fuck at all about artists when it comes to photoshop. technically you can do really anything you can do in clip studio in photoshop, but it involves a lot more headache and generally just wastes your time for no good reason besides the fact that adobe doesn't give a shit at all about releasing a photoshop variant tailored to artists.
there's also the fact that clip studio is IMMENSELY cheaper than photoshop. i got clip studio ex on sale at something like $90 last year; the regular price is something under 300. it's an absolute steal compared to photoshop, especially considered the fact you can't even buy photoshop perpetual licenses anymore. i would hands down recommand clip studio ex over photoshop for anybody actually paying any day of the week because you get so much more bang for the buck.
obviously if you're getting towards professional level, you want to learn photoshop, but otherwise it isn't necessary. the handful of things photoshop does that you can't do in clip studio really isn't anything to care about. the only thing i feel like i'm missing in clip studio is color/hue/saturation/luminosity layer blend modes, but even then i realized they weren't really all that necessary

Am I immature for not understanding whats so great about artists like van gogh? I think it is interesting that I can look back over 100 years ago and see someone struggling with the proportions and stuff like I do, but what makes him special? I can go to deviant art and find thousands of van goghs. Is it just cause he used a swirly instagram filter on most of his paintings?

I'm getting some strong brian vibes from this piece
>aspiring artist
>has no regard for art history
Your too much of a pleb to even bother explaining too.
If you take an art history class, you learn all about what makes Van Gogh so special. It's hard to say easily since it involves everything else that came before such as Realism, Impressionism, etc.
But most of the art movements had to do with going against the fundamentals, oddly enough.
Im terrible at art and design. i was hopping to acquire an artist who specializes in crating logos for a small fee. or information on what site i can use to get in contact with decently skilled person(s). Im looking to have a logo made. i have sample images and an idea, just not the creative skill to make it happen.
I'm interested as long as I am getting paid.
