I wanna make a patreon account
any advice?

You need a user base first, you don't aquire the user base by having a patreon. So you'll need a few thousand followers atleast on other platforms before even thinking about Patreon. Source: guy with successful patreon that I asked

How?
>>
>>2768496

That is something you largely need to figure out for yourself. If you need guidance, study and emulate the online social presence of successful artists you like.

Social media is a skill just like art & design, and it needs to be practiced like one. Do it, pay attention to what works and what doesn't, and build off your mistakes.

How did you progress through Loomis? What did you do? How did you study?

It's such a meme but I rarely see any effective approaches to the book.

Additionally, I'm going through the Head and Hands again and want to approach it as effectively as possible, so I'm looking for some tips.

Why does nobody on this board know how to use books?

Draw whatever the fuck figures you want. Use the book as backup when you don't know what the fuck you're exactly doing.

This isn't your pre-algebra textbook where you're going through page by page and doing exercises.
>>
>>2775803

Read text, draw the pictures accurately, clos book, draw pictures from memory, open book, fix your mistakes. Keep going.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Anyone else ever get those thoughts? Art is my main squeeze, but the closer I get to transferring to an art school, the more I feel like it's pointless, I should just continue to self-study and get a degree in a trade that's lucrative out the door.

Do what makes you happy. Money past supporting your expenses isn't going to make you any happier. If doing a trade and having art as a hobby would make you happy, do that. Or do art as a career. If you have the choice, you should put your own happiness first.

>Money past supporting your expenses isn't going to make you any happier.

Not OP, but this is not true, at least for me and many others. Knowing that I have money in the bank in case of hard times, or having extra money for silly things like getting drinks or buying gifts and misc goods that you don't need but want help leaps and bounds with being happy. Having enough for your basic needs is first base.

Does anyone have any suggestions for someone trying to get into pastels? Brands? Paper? Techniques?

I bought white pastel paper, but I'm having a hard time getting texture of lighter colors to show through. Is pastel really meant for toned paper? Is "Pastel" branded paper really the best paper for pastels or do other textured papers work? If there's not a really severe tooth on the paper will pastels not work to their full potential on it?

Not a pastels experiment, honestly have yet to try them but want to. However, I watch a lot of people use them. Notice that Youtube artist tend to use a darker toned colored paper. One artist in particular that I follow uses this often.

Toned papers do work best, you want a mid-value that's not too light or too dark so both your highlights and darkest darks show through well, either a neutral tone or slightly warm or cool leaning, depending on what you're painting. Get some Canson Mi-Teintes. It's 60% cotton and has two different textured sides, a smoother one and a rougher side with a more pronounced mesh.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terror_management_theory

Terror management theory (TMT) proposes a basic psychological conflict that results from having a desire to live, but realizing that death is inevitable.

This conflict produces terror, and this terror is then managed by embracing cultural values, or symbolic systems that act to provide life with meaning and value.

I know we all love Sycra, Jazza and so on, but how about we recommend and discuss some lesser known channels?

I just found this YouTube channel who gives some insight on learning methods and art practice. Since this guy seems faily unknown, I just wanted to share.

Is there any point in doing illustration when you can't visualize things - see in mind's eye.
I'm not talking about imagination - i can make up a story, but i can't see a damn thing in mind's eye, not even a dot, triangle, nothing.

The problem with that is (some of you might find yoursrlf in that description) that when you draw, you can't imagine/see in your head how the line you are trying to put down will look like.
So in order to actually see if that single line will "work" or not, i literally have to draw it.
So i can draw 10 lines before get the "right" one.

In other hand, people who can visualize can see in their head if that line they are trying to draw will work or not. They know how thst line will look before they even draw it, because they see it in head.

In my case, i have to draw a line from one point to another to see how it looks.

Anyone else strugle that? To be honedt that is my biggest pain in the ass.
Technical skill can be learned, also imagination, creativity and sense for design.

But you can't do literally anything to be able to start to visualize.

Pic related, if you ask me to imagine red triangle, i can sit all day and try to recall that image in mind, all i will see is black space (like no.1)

you don't need to visualise you dumb cunt, just construct it or use your intuition for line placement.
>>
how long have you been at it?
You sound like you're being too precious with your throwaway work. Or else not being conscious enough of what you're doing. Practice will give you the mental catalogue that makes "visualization" possible.

This might not be true if you're autistic.

>tfw you realize you forgot about why you wanted to learn to draw in the first place
I spent all this time trying to draw well, when I really just wanted to create a graphic novel or even animate.
Should I start trying to apply my current level of drawing to do this?
