I am killing myself today. I just wanted to say that you were one of the best boards I got to know. Sure you have some failed memes and frustrating discussions at times but overall you helped me a lot in improving myself. Because it's not amazing, it's an incredibly generic and boring picture.
The dialogue on the picture and bright colors makes turbo scrollers actually stop at the picture and give it a closer look.

So the right is good artwork, while the left is shit, even though there's more effort put into the left one.

Aspiring digital art anon here. (currently amateur lol)
I'm looking for books or something that cover as much of the most important/effective information/techniques about fundamentals as possible.

I've got the sticky and the stuff in pic so far.
If I'm missing something really good pls tell me. I haven't read most of them yet so I can't tell if I'm missing something.

I want to specialize in stylized characters and land/cityscapes. Regarding the books idc if it's realistic or anime style cause I want to be able to do everything. Just give me everything you hold in high regards.

Not sure if this is entirely /ic/ appropriate but how do I collect art without spending a fortune? It seems like the only choice is finding some no-name local painter and buying something.

For example pic related isn't by a popular artist but it's still $2k to buy. A bit out of my price range.

You could always opt for prints. Online, thrift stores can offer interesting finds, garage sales, museums sometimes give prints away or sell them for cheap after an exhibit is over.

I used to work at a flea market; not many local artists unfortunately.

Problem with prints is I can understand paying for a frame on an original, but paying $100 just to house a large print?

so i was merrily going along my humble /ic/ journey to "making it" and becoming the best artist in the universe when all of a sudden i found a free download link for photoshop cs2. i had been looking for a free ps download for a while but eventually i settled for gimp as a viable alternative. now that i have access to photoshop which one should i get into? should i uninstall gimp or should i just dump CS2?
