This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

Are there any good tools, tips and tricks to draw digitally for people who don't possess a graphic tablet?

When I make serious drawings I always do them traditionally, on paper, then I scan them and do the lineart on SAI with the lineart curve tool. It takes a long time and it's rather disheartening having to redo something you've already done once but if you're careful it does the job fine. Then I just fill colors and such with my mouse. Needless to say the styles you can do using this method are "somewhat limited" since it has to involve linearts, basic coloring etc, so no painting and so on, but depending on what you want to do it can be alright (such as anime/manga style).

Opinions? Any poorfags like me who does or have done the same thing here?

Just save for a low end tablet. You can get one for under a hundred dollars, even as a poorfag that should be attainable.

Seriously, learning to draw on a mouse just isn't fucking worth it unless you're doing pixel art or something.

The moment when, in a Fine Arts class or Art Critique the teacher is explaining the subject basics and dynamics, specially the variety of artworks we are going to study and critique, from paintings to performances or even movies when the [insert harsh remark here] classmate asks in a clear, loud, self-importance-full voice:

"Excuse me, teacher. Are we going to study other arts such as Cosplay or Videogames as well?"

This kills the man

I'm fine with videogames being considered art (it's basically an amalgamation of other artistic mediums anyway) but it really isn't necessary to address it in that setting.

This is how you know you're at a bad art school.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, There is a question thread for that.

Visit the usual "Art book Thread" to find your desired books.

Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're a baddie.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless. (hint: post a child porn and your full name if you would like replies)

What's your thought on the 3/4 profile shot syndrome? Is it something to feel guilty of like not stepping out of your comfort zone?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If you are competent in art you should be able to draw any object from any angle.

/thread
>>
>like

It is literally not stepping out of your comfort zone. It's a comfortable angle to familiarize yourself with in a way that looks pretty good. It's basically the path of least resistance for making a nice portrait.

If you want to just do 3/4 profiles forever, go for it, but if you actually want to learn how to understand how faces and heads work and be able to work dynamically, not restricted to that angle, yes you need to fix it.
>>
>>2395993
who needs straight front, profile and back views anyway? 3/4 is the way to go, in all different sorts of angles.

Can I learn to draw only by using digital tools like tablets? I dont like to draw on paper simply because I dont have money to buy pencils and other shit and on a tablet you can do anything you want.

Also does it mean anything if I can paint in Photoshop but cant paint in real life?

Of course you can. You will lose mobility though, at some point this will be important to just walk around and draw people, cars, wildlife, whatever your premises can offer.

As for painting, I heard about guy who printed chink render, applied some sort of transparent oil on top and it was looking like it was painted with traditional tools
>>
>simply because I dont have money to buy pencils and other shit

So blowing a few hundred dollars on a tablet is affordable but spending basically 10 cents per pencil and probably cheaper per sheet of printing paper is unreasonable? You don't need to get fucking high end sketchbooks and fancy pencils, you can use a goddamn orange school grade HB pencil, paper you put in your damn printer that they sell for peanuts, and a bic ball point pen.
If you don't want to draw on paper just say so but don't cite cost as an excuse. Drawing can be an incredibly inexpensive hobby if you buy basic materials.

Anyway, yes, you can learn just find on tablet, but I still recommend you do both.

What's the best way to make little paper sketchbooks like the one in the picture? What is this binding called?

I accidentally bought a bunch of 9x12 60lb paper that comes with one of those little tape binding strips so it's going to fall apart and you can't fold the paper back. I want to make some sketchbooks out of it that don't look like big spiral bound ones so I can take them out and do a little clandestine drawing in the food court or cafe or whatever.

Thanks, /ic/.

I actually had a similar dilemma to this a few weeks ago.

Had a Field Notes notebook lying around and really liked the size, fit in my back pocket well. Took that and basically traced it on some marker paper sheets I wanted a book made out of, then did the same with a sheet of thick cardstock to be the cover. Cut and stapled them together in the middle. Then fold in half and took some pliers to really clamp the book down and keep it from trying to open back up.

Really though, I think this was a pretty tedious/sloppy way to go about it, but after trimming and cleaning up the end result it looked more than good enough for my needs. Using a straight paper cutter instead of scissors would have sped up the process a lot too, and probably would have come out looking nicer.

I'm curious as well if someone can offer some good notebook making advice. Would love to take some other paper I have and make it nicely portable.
