Post reference images( photographs or artworks) of portraits with great lighting that shows forms and 3 dimensionality.
So I made this heart tablet thing and it turned out pretty well. Every part has a different texture
I don't know where it should go (the trash?,) but I am sure this is the wrong sub to post this.
>>2399531
Wow thanks, that's really considerate of you. I will consider your proposal to find an appropriate medium to post my trash
I'm a poorfag, /ic/. I need to buy a drawing tablet but I have a budget of $50. I understand that this thread is petty but I would like for you guys to suggest some good tablets so I don't fuck up.
Pic is goals (sorry about the iFunny bar)
Make that a $100 limit

That guy really is a poor man's Stålenhag.
The pepe attached is the first thing I've drawn in a while, traditional with boosted contrast on pencil lines.
>Be me
>Browsing 4chan like my inner autist says to
>I suddenly am infused with the knowledge to the universe
>I am omniscient
>fuck yeah
>there are 4 stages that an artist has and randomly flip flops between
>1-the ‘God’ phase, they are fucking animals with a pencil, sees a leaf or pebble and instantly knows exactly what the need to paint, and they need to paint it now often those in stage 1 will abandon other things so they can get rid of the inspiration at the forefront of their minds
>2-the ‘Meh’ phase people need to actively seek out inspiration, or just draws random doodles and connect the doodles to make a drawing easily. Is the most common state an artist resides in, and will be able to wait for days to draw a final piece
>3-the ‘blocked’ stage, a terrible, but quickly over come stage that involves a lot of moping and time that is wasted not making art. doesn’t seek inspiration, or has tried it but it failed. the third phase it usually brought on by self pity, and feels of inferiority after seeing god tier art by others.
>4-the ‘Dead’ stage. it’s a mix of the above three. people infected with this parasitic bullshit think they are in stage three with occasional bouts of one and two. They feel inspired mentally, but they are in an illusion. They cannot function normally, and often have to mask the true feelings of pain that they feel when they know they are incapable at that moment of making art. No one knows how this is started or ended, people just realize one day that they are out of their funk, or are balls deep in the stage without realizing it.
>am in phase four, have been for a while now
Does anyone else think this is accurate? Anyone else going through 4, or do I just suck at creativity?
being creative is part of my identity here. I am losing who I am.
what do?
I know what you mean Anon, and by your list I am in stage 4 as well, and have been for a long time.
It is possibly because of my depression and other factors, and the inferiority thing you mentioned is a major thing.
This is my only solution so far: Force it. Force yourself to draw. Pick up the pencil and do it laying in bed crying if you have to but you fucking do it.
Can't think of anything? pick a random thing you suck at and draw it. Pick a favorite artist and study some of their work. Doodle a character from whatever media your watching/reading/playing. Force it.
I don't know if anything I say will help, in fact it's pretty cliche. But it's the only thing I can do that has made me draw, and it took time to even get the point where I could make myself try.
I wish the best for you and hope you keep going with your artwork.
>>2399011
Thanks anon, nice dubs by the way. I just wish there was an easy way out of this. Best wishes on escaping stage 4
Kinda agreee... though i think stage 4 is recoverable. I was in it for a long time. Felt like my work was always shit. Mad that the only way I could make it as an artist if i did get good was to sell out, or sell to rich fuck I don't care about.
flash forward 2 years, still in shitty job. Smoking tons of weed to cope. Something finally snapped in me. Locked my weed up until i do 50 quality drawings. Back into it, Lost a lot of skill, so have to start back with the basics. But fuck man. I beats not doing it.
So I'm really confused on how to combine gesture and perspective. Does anyone have any tips they could share? How do you keep a pose fluid and dynamic while still conforming to the perspective that you set?
>>2390869
post some of your gestures so we can see what you are doing wrong and give you specific advice. Otherwise people can only give you really basic advice like study up on perspective and more Loomis, which everyone hates to hear.
>>2390907
Okay. Here's an example of what I've been doing. I just want to know if I'm doing this shit right.
>>2390869
Look up the basic Vilppu exercises of combining boxes and spheres, they are online for free somewhere.
Post your art ramblings and experience here, things you want to share anonymously.

This is my experience enjoying the first time i've ever made money with my art.
-------
As for me, it was a week ago. I finally found a way to connect my paypal account with my patreon to claim the $15 remaining pledge and at first, i thought,
>hey, theres no way this will work. Some stupid crap is going to happen and i wont ever enjoy that patreon money
Then, 3 days later, as i check my atm, the money was deposited, all $15 of it. And man, i was grinning like crazy. I cant stop laughing, uttering ha ha everywhere i go for 4 hours straight, i mean holy shit, i finally got something outta my art. IT WAS DELICIOUS. You did literally nothing, its not comission money, its not something people paid you to do, it's just money for existing. And all that stuff was 100% on my own accord. I make something by my own and i got paid
Then 4 days later new patreon money showed up and i claimed the $47 and the grinning stops because ive realized that amount is too low and i need to do more things to make it higher because at that point, i've said to myself, i want to choose art as my career.
But dude, the $15, that was super great.
>tfw i havent made a single cent from my works
>>2388001
congrats, op!
I started teaching basic drawing to kids today. started with gesture drawing and making marks, then we're going to move onto shapes forms and values. I got them out of their shell and we're working on talking about own artwork. it's only been a day but I'm proud of them! I'm really excited for next week!
i've been really sick and basically stuck in bed sleeping for going on a month now, though I'm finally at the very tail end of it. I had all these resolutions about getting better and studying really hard everyday, and I did really good until I got sick. Now I feel like I've had a shit start to my year, and all the anxieties I tried to put away are coming back up. For a long time, I would get really anxious and upset about wasting time, being too old (im 23 in april), stupid shit like that, and I had learned to push all that aside in the last year or so. but when you take a hit like i did, you just feel like you're never going anywhere at this rate
can we please ban all "is it too late?", "am I too old?" threads? It's fucking pathetic and a total waste of space and time:
It takes about 5 years, give or take, of exceptionally hard work to get to an expert level (by professionals accounts). Unless you think you're going to die in 5 years time, stop posting these annoying fucking threads, instead of working. If you really hate the act of painting so much that you need to distract yourself by making the same thread 3 times a week, then painting obviously isn't for you.
If you just started, you're not going to have an art career in a years time or even two, so stop worrying about and just enjoy the act of making art, you'll feel a lot better for it
>>2399419
Can we please ban all paeodphile OPs? It's fucking disgusting and they're a total waste of oxygen and bandwidth:
It takes about 5 minutes, give or take, of exceptionally easy work to wrap a noose around your neck (by a professional suicide assistant). Unless you think you're not going to die in 5 minutes time, stop and think how you'll fuck up the process and end up in the hospital instead of letting a professional assist you in killing yourself. If you really hate not acting upon your urges of wanting to fuck kids that you need to distract yourself by making threads with pictures of kids every day of the week, then painting obviously isn't for you--perhaps jail?
If you just started wrapping the noose around you, you're not going to have a career in art because you'll be dead, so hurry up and kill yourself. The world will feel a lot better if you did.
>>2399435
The irony here is that only someone with latent pedo urges would look at a picture of fully clothed girls and associate it with pedophilia.
Ban all "THIS ARTIST SUCKS" threads as well.
Anyone know a site that has a large repository of random free poses? I don't mean those quick sketch sites that are designed for gesture drawings. I mean kind of like a search engine or booru of poses that you can use.
googile images gives mixed results and more than often the images are too small or samples that you need to pay for.
http://www.onairvideo.com/croquis-cafe-photos.html
like this?
>>2399362
yeah sort of, except i was hoping for more of a focus on categories of different types of poses rather than sorted by model.
>>2399362
That's really hot. I really miss pubes.

This is the comfiest grip ever. Is there any way to do something like it on a tablet?
The overhand grip was, traditionally, designed to get a student used to painting with their shoulder and focusing more on accuracy - basically, making them uncomfortable so the have to pay close attention to get the result they desired without being lazy or quick and "chicken scratching" the paint to the destination on a vertical canvas. We don't have that with digital; we have a small pad, which means we don't particularly need our shoulder (as much) and you're likely just going to go back to pen-holding. You may be able to find a specialized pen nibs for it, but it'll be uncomfortable and awkward.
any grip that isn't writing grip is an evidence that society lets the cripple and degenerates to become artists.
>>2397177
might work with a sensel tablet, could just overlay the surface with paper and draw on it with overhand grip like you normally would, but you'd have to use tilt-enabled brushes in photoshop.
Also, the tablet is tiny and it's a kickstarter project.
help
>>2399231
It'd be wise to resize the image first. 5x3k is too much.
I suppose red should be lit the most, orange halftone, green something between those two. There's also atmospheric perspective, but I know pretty much nothing about it.
>>2399231
You need to know how strong the light is and it's output range.
Look up images of street lamps to get the idea.
Also, learn how to render the five basic shapes.
holy shit, you're trying to learn and make a fucking complicated lighting scenario with multiple light sources
Red is the most lighted areas, then orange, then side of it (but it's not shadow, just less lighted)
to calculate it, imagine a 3D CONE form from the light sources to the floor, everything inside it is bright, closer and perpendicular to the source, brighter material, brighter it will be
you're unlikely to learn anything with that approach, background is shit
How to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome when you draw for 8+ hours per day?
>>2399054
Draw with your shoulder
>>2399055
Shit advice, because its very hard to draw small objects with your shoulder. Also I dont have much space to use it with ease.
>>2399054
do hand exercises and shake out your wrists every so often
Been doodling on this guy for a little over a week. Thoughts?
please leave.
Hi /ic/
I went to a life drawing class on Thursday and was asked to leave after 30 minutes.
Has this happened to anyone here before. Apparently I was creepy.
I'm confused I was in my work clothes, which is smart shirt + trousers.
they can smell your degenerate weeaboo scent
>>2398279
Kek Never happened to me or seen anyone being asked to leave, so dunno, maybe you are creepy, or the model is too shy or the instructor was an asshole or all three.
Provide more info, you lazy faggot.
THE FOUR HOUR COMIC
It's time for another challenge. You have 30 minutes to prepare ideas for a short comic.
After the preliminary planning period, you have four hours to pencil and ink four pages.
Each hour can be spent however you like but they correlate to the pages as timers.
This means that if you have not finished a page at it's one hour mark, stop and move on.
A good way to work is to spend 30 minutes on pencils and 30 minutes on inking per page,
You can do the challenge an hour at a time but it has to all be done within a 24 hour period.
Try to do it all at once with short breaks between so you can stand up and stretch.
All skill levels are welcome and critiques are encouraged.
Explain your thoughts clearly and elaborate on them.
Feel free to share resources. Also, using ref is OK.
Push yourself and see where you really are skill wise.
All mediums are considered acceptable; re-size images.
I know you can draw something interesting.
Time starts...now.

i like the idea. i'll do it.
