I've been thinking of commissioning an art piece but have no real idea how to go about finding a fitting artist or the whole process of it really so I figure I may as well ask here
The idea I've had is having someone draw an animation loop in the style (and quality) of the gif I've posted with another character I rep myself with
Be a very cool piece to showcase on my steam and etc profiles and stuff
Since it's animation with pretty fancy shading and shadowing (dat oldschool anime where'd you go), I figure it might be pretty costly to get done - but has anyone a decent idea of what roughly I should expect that to cost me? Assume hiring someone to draw that exact gif from scratch with light reference basically
Would I have to seek out a specific professional animator to do this for me, or would it suffice just posting a generic request message on tumblr or something and hope someone of appropriate skill is out looking for work? As I'm aware I'm setting the standards kinda high, I might not have many options to choose from
I'm clueless desu oniifam
That's a cool idea, dude. Let's see. It's 15 frames, mercifully with most of the actual motion being limited to the hair and clothes it should be doable "relatively" inexpensively, but the lighting is pretty complex, even with a reference it would be take quite some time to emulate. I think somewhere around the $200 mark might be expected, if not a bit more. Hopefully someone else chimes in because that's as close a guess as I'm capable of.

Figure I clip a few pieces of the character I'd want it done with too
Spider Jerusalem, of Transmetropolitan
Someone else might be a fan too idk
Been using his faces from the first issues of it as avatars for long ages, mostly because the resemblance is uncanny I swear
Anyway the potential for a wicked cool fusion should be immediately visible, and if I got an estimate of $200 from someone doing this kinda art - might even begin getting myself warmed up to the idea of blowing that much on becoming a patron of the arts
They'll probably charge extra for beard physics
>>2401976
>They'll probably charge extra for beard physics
I know you're kind of joking but that would doubtlessly increase the hypothetical price by quite a bit, dude. Most of the actual animation in the real .gif apart from the lighting (which is nonetheless very complex by itself) is "just off screen". Add a beard into the mix and shit gets real wacky, real quick. They will no longer be able to use the .gif as much of a reference and will have to estimate similar lighting on a flailing, prominently displayed beard.

Do you know any artists who shared their life to the public(how did they get here and there)?
Here is an example of what I am looking for

I don't think it's a biography but there is a BBC doc about Frank Quitely. Actually i think it's part of a series What do Artists do all day?.
>>2406948
I saw an episode of that.
It was interesting and the artist looked so bored all the time. Kinda felt bad.

I have decided to take advice I have received from /ic/ and I am making more strides with my grasp on 3D spaces. I decided to look up some various images of women and human form. I took all of my entire Sunday to dedicate to studying and practicing. I took some elements from a class where I had to draw simple building blueprints and put them into work on Evie. I feel like I can get a better grasp on my perspective as I reintroduce some concepts I got from a building class.

So Andrew Loomis's figure drawing book just wasn't doing it for me as I need more anatomy reference in the book so is this one any good?
check out scott eaton

It's an ongoing meme that Loomis is some sort of demigod when it comes to drawing.
He isnt, he is mediocre at best and you should look for other books.

For months now I've been trying to figuring out how to accept payment for commissions anonymously.
This shouldn't be such a pain in the arse, there's gotta be an actual solution to this right?
Paypal is dogshit, their solution is to make a business account which requires you to get a business number. Getting a business number is free if you use your real name (which defeats the purpose for me getting a business account) otherwise you'll have to pay yearly for a "business name".
Went reading through shitloads of threads and forums trying to find out how to do it and see if I'm overlooking something.
This is driving me nuts, does anyone know ANYTHING?
>>2402431
>otherwise you'll have to pay yearly for a "business name"
what? that's new to me. I just started a business account there.
>>2402431
Solution is to just stop giving a fuck. Certainly worked for me and I do both porn as well as actual legit work. Many of my friends even know I draw porn, I talk about it openly. When you can make 200$ in a couple of hours, it's really not so bad anon. Just stop giving a fuck.
>>2402436
If you're in Australia and you make a business account you need an ABN (Australian business number).
Remember when animators used to draw by hand instead of mouse?
Seriously, what the fuck happened to hand drawn cartoons? More and more it's done by mouse and program.

Hey guys, if you don't know what discord is it's a free channel based text program very similar to IRC and others like Skype, though it has the best of both worlds and it's completely free. After seeing a few streamers and communities that have their own discords set up for their personal use I thought there would be no better use than to make an artwork based Discord server.
Since it's text based there's multiple channels on the free server I made, such as a general chat where you would post/chat about anything you'd normally see on /ic/, an artwork channel so you can post your artwork into the channel for everyone to see and it would get some feedback/critiques/redlines,etc.
If you have any suggestions on how to make the server better such as additional channels, or anything of the sort let me know.
To join the channel all you have to do is click the link and you'll be in the server. If you don't have the discord program it will join on your browser but that's not recommended as performance is lower and there's a few glitches/bugs.
Link to join - https://discord.gg/0pRTOVR3wsCNNL5I
I'll be posting some examples of ways that you can use discord.
As for the bit in the op where I said there's a few glitches/bugs on the web version of Discord, don't mind that, as most of the glitches/bugs stem from voice chat which i don't have enabled at this time.
In this screen you can see how useful it is to embed pictures for getting critiques and such.

How is the style similar to this picture called? I'm pretty sure I've seen something like it in some 80s abstract art.
Looks like cubism meets synchromism
Futurism

Could there be some futurism in there too?
I'm trying to find the 80s works I was talking of
Does anyone here legitimately rent PS CC?
Is it easy to opt in and out like with Netflix?
>>2406053
Yes to all
though do read the contract
you can only cancel monthly
>>2406060
Or yearly, if that's the subscription you chose.
If you're a student and/or own an e-mail tied to a university, you can occasionally get solid deals through your school. I could rent the full CC suite for 10 euros a month here.

I don't know how prevalent that attitude is within their customer support, but it's something to keep in mind.
Does anyone have any good tutorials/guides/protips about sound effects in comics? I've been struggling with this aspect of my comics for awhile and can't find a lot of good material about A) coming up with a variety of effects, and B) how to treat them in different ways typographically to emphasize the sound. I'm starting to fall into the manga trap where they just write the action (Turn! Smile! etc) and it feels really lazy.
Also any examples of really good sound effect usage in comics?
>>2403512
Subliminal?
>Captain America! I command you to...WANK!
lol
>>2403512
Not what your asking for, but I just wouldn't bother. I'm drawing my own comic and I'm forgoing effects. I really don't think it detracts from the composition of the panel that much.
